The band's line-up is not the same as when they started. In fact, the line-up might change by the time you finish reading this.

Hed PE (also known as (hed) Planet Earth and stylized as (həd) p.e. or as (Hed)pe or (Hed)PE) is a Punk Rock band from Huntington Beach, California. Their style of music, dubbed "G-Punk", draws mainly from Punk Rock and Hip Hop, touching upon Hardcore Punk, Reggae, and occasionally Funk, Jazz and Heavy Metal.

Their lyrical subject matter is quite diverse, ranging from some of the more frivolous subject matter of Gangsta Rap (pot smoking, sex, etc.) to more political topics. Vocalist Jared is also heavily interested in conspiracy theories, like government cover-up of alien life, the Illuminati, etc.; because of this, Hed PE is often overlooked or downright condemned, despite the diversity of their music.

Members: The band has had many line-up changes over the years; this list may or may not be the current line-up.

Past members:

  • The Finger: Keyboard (1994-1996: founding member)
  • Chizad: Guitar (1994-2002: founding member)
  • Wesstyle (Wes Greer): Guitar (1994-2003: founding member; current touring guitarist for Korn)
  • B.C. Vaught: Drums (1994-2003: founding member)
  • Sonny Mayo: Touring guitarist (2002-2003; formerly of the band Snot)
  • Christopher Hendrich: Drums (2004)
  • Moke: Drums (2004-2006)
  • Devin Lebsack: Drums (2006-2007)
  • Tiny Bubz: Drums (2007-2008)
Discography:

(həd) Planet Earth provides examples of the following tropes:

The band members themselves/live performance[]

  • I Have Many Names: Most current and former band members have aliases.
  • Juggalo: Jaxon has the Hatchetman painted onto his guitar, and the entire band has performed in face paint; although Jared had performed in face paint since the band's debut, the entire band had not.
  • Revolving Door Band: The band has frequently changed line-ups over the years, with the only consistent members being Jared, Mawk and DJ Product.
  • The Stoner: Entire band.
  • Tribal Face Paint: Often worn by Jared since the band's formation, this has recently extended to the rest of the band, especially when playing for Juggalo audiences, and comes into play heavily on some music videos, like "Here And Now".

Lyrics/Themes/Concepts[]

Music/Music referential[]

  • Bonus Material: Each of their albums has bonus tracks on international releases, usually on the Japanese editions. New World Orphans was originally released in three different versions, each containing unique bonus tracks; when it was reissued on iTunes, its only bonus track was the single "Here And Now". Fans who preordered Truth Rising received a Skull and Bonus CD, which contained exclusive songs, remixes and an interview with Jared in which he discussed the 9/11 Truth Movement.
  • Cover Version: A few, including "Crosstown Traffic" and "For What It's Worth" (retitled "Children" by the band). In concerts, the band has covered songs by Rage Against the Machine and Bob Marley.

  • Genre Roulette
  • Hardcore Punk
  • Harsh Vocals: Aside his occasional growling, he sometimes performs bluesier harsh singing.
  • Hidden Track
    • Their self-titled album contains one dubbed "Tits, Clits and Bong Hits" by fans
    • Broke has some studio outtakes
    • Insomnia has audio of a newsreport involving an explosion at a THC extraction lab operated by then-Methods of Mayhem leader and former Hed PE member Tim Murray. The most revealing part of the audio is when the reporter specifies that manufacturing marijuana is more illegal than selling or possessing it.
  • Hip Hop
  • Lucky Charms Title: The band's name includes a schwa, a letter used in the International Phonetic Alphabet.
  • Neoclassical Punk Zydeco Rockabilly: It's not unusual for Hed PE to begin a song with a Hardcore Punk lead, switch to rapping over a Hip Hop beat, then jump into another style.
  • Punk Rap
  • Punk Rock
  • Three Chords and the Truth
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: "(həd)"

Music Videos[]

  • Shout-Out: The animated music video for "Truth Rising" briefly features a figure that strongly resembles the Hatchetman.
  1. The music video was dedicated to late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who died four months before the video's release.
