ANTONBLAST is a 2D Platformer developed by Summitsphere for Steam and Nintendo Switch. It was released on December 3, 2024 on Steam, with its Switch Port being released on December 13, 2024.
Summary[]
Destruction worker Dynamite Anton, the main protagonist of the game Antonball Deluxe, takes pride in his collection of alcoholic vintage. However, the Devil himself is furious about his hue being not as red as Anton's, so he steals Anton's alcohol collection. Absolutely livid, the destruction worker goes on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge into Hell itself to get his alcohol back, unaware that this is the Devil's plan to steal Anton's redness.
Joined by his crazy co-worker and girlfriend Annie and armed with a large hammer, Anton storms across the Backburner Peninsula and destroys everything in his path in order to reclaim his booze. However, he has additional help, as the disgraced casino bartender Brulo has his own beef with the Devil and lends his casino as a base of operations as long as Anton makes good on defeating the Devil for good.
Despite ANTONBLAST taing influenced from a wide variety of action platformers, including Cuphead, the gameplay is more similar to Wario Land 4. Anton searches each level for his stolen alcohol collection and arms an explosive to destroy cleared stages. He is equipped with a ton of demolition-themed moves, including a hammer dash and a devastating hammer bounce, both of which he will need to annihilate a massive variety of obstacles.
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When the Jewel Ghoul is defeated, he begs to be spared. The Jewel Ghoul finds his pleas falling on deaf ears when Anton draws his gun to deliver the Coup de Grâce anyway.
- Angelic Abomination: When he enters phase 3, the Ring-a-Ding seemingly splits in half with a realistic eyeball in the middle and gains three pairs of wings and arms.
- Animate Body Parts: During the second phase of his bout with Anton, the Jewel Ghoul is revealed to have a face on his heart, which attacks the alcohol-seeking demolition worker.
- Ass Kicks You: The Devil can attack Anton by sitting on him during his boss fight. Inverted in that Anton can also aim his attacks there to deal damage to the Devil.
- Attack Reflector: During his last-ditch attack the Ring-a-Ding tries to smash Anton with the Moon. Anton must bounce it back to defeat him.
- Bad Boss: The Devil does not hold his minions in high regards, belittling them when Anton storms into the Devil's throne room. The Devil even sends them into the battle despite the fact that they are still all gravely injured from their own fights (The Jewel Ghoul has bandages over his head, for example.), and you can hurt them, but are safe from them.
- Boom! Headshot!: Anton defeats the Jewel Ghoul by shooting him in the head in a Wild Gunman-esque Coup De Grâce Cutscene.
- Colony Drop: When he is on the ropes, the Ring-a-Ding tries to smash Anton with the Moon itself. Anton must defend himself and reflect the Moon back.
- Coup De Grace: Anton defeats the Bossbusters by throwing them into the screen, the Jewel Ghoul by shooting him in the head, and the Freako Dragon by sending him to Brazil, and the Ring-a-Ding by reflecting the Moon back at him.
- Crosshair Aware: The Devil telegraphs his beam attacks during the third and final phases of his fight with flashing lines and pentagrams, and his butt-stomp attack leaves a warning.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: Defeated enemies explode.
- Don't Celebrate Just Yet: The Ring-a-Ding ends up on both ends, seemingly killing Anton at the end of his first phase only for Anton to reveal himself as still alive and kicking. He then pulls one on the player at the end of phase 2, where after getting punched out by Anton who lands back on Earth and strikes a victory pose, the Ring-a-Ding comes back in a One-Winged Angel form.
- Drop the Hammer: Anton has a hammer as one of his weapons.
- Eleventh-Hour Superpower: During the final battle, Anton has his crimson hue drained, leaving him weak. However, Anton's alcohol collection revives him and strengthens his power.
- Face Plant: Anton exploits this trope for his Antomic Bomb attack, which involves him dropping face-first akin to a Ground Pound.
- Giant Hands of Doom: The Jewel Ghoul is a giant monster with appropriately huge hands.
- Glass Cannon: Anton is capable of destroying a lot in his path, but three hits does him in. His health can be upgraded at Brulo's shop.
- Glass Smack and Slide: When his health reaches zero, Anton gets tossed into the screen. He also does this to the Bossbusters as a Coup De Grâce.
- Gotta Catch Them All: Anton has to find his stolen prized spirits, which serve as goal gates.
- Just Eat Him: After enough hits to his head, the Jewel Ghoul devours Anton. Anton can fight his way out by smashing the Jewel Ghoul's heart.
- Last Breath Bullet: When his final form is on the ropes, the Ring-a-Ding throws the Moon down at Anton. Anton must bat it back with his hammer.
- Literal Ass-Kicking: The Devil must be hurt in his third and final phases by hitting his posterior.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain: Despite being portrayed as a failure somewhat, the Devil is still the Devil. After his first phase is beaten, he sucks out Anton's redness and kills him. And when Anton is revived by the power of his Spirits, the Devil unleashes his true power in the form of a Kaiju-sized new body.
- Orcus on His Throne: The Devil waits in his kingdom while Anton is getting his alcohol back.
- Our Monsters Are Weird: Anton faces a gemstone-headed giant, a dragon made of pachinko balls, a ravenous bell, and bomb-spitting daruma dolls, among other things, in his adventure.
- Place Worse Than Death: During his Coup De Grâce Cutscene, the Freako Dragon gets slammed into Brazil. This is the one place you see Jesus in the game, making a cameo as the Redeemer statue.
- Puzzle Boss: During the first phase of her fight, the Maulbuster attacks by using her monologue to attack Anton. Anton must dodge her attacks, after which she gets heckled by the audience who attacks her with tomatoes. Enough damage from this causes the Maulbuster to fly into a rage, at which point she throws her own tomatoes at Anton.
- Quirky Miniboss Squad: The Bossbusters.
- Reality Ensues: Before the second phase of his boss fight, the Devil proceeds three of the previous bosses to hold Anton off. However, the three are still nursing their injuries from the thrashing they got in their own fights a short time ago, something the game takes into account since Anton just thrashes them again.
- Shout-Out: The cutscene where the Jewel Ghoul gets taken out is a reference to Wild Gunman, as Anton pulls out his gun and takes aim and opens fire with a similar interface to that game.
- Stuff Blowing Up: Due to his role as a demolition master, practically anything Anton touches goes kaboom.
- Taking the Bullet: At the end of his first phase, the Devil is saved by his magic mirror, which blocks Anton's blow. This gives the Devil enough time to escape and get a second wind.
- Taking You with Me: In a final act of spite, the Devil proceeds to blow up his kingdom. However, Anton and Annie escape.
- The Devil Is a Loser: The Devil steals Anton's alcohol collection due to his insecurity about Anton being redder than him. The stolen spirits are used as bait to lure Anton into his trap.
- Worf Had the Flu: After Anton gets revived by his spirits collection, the Devil summons the Jewel Ghoul, the Freako Dragon, and the Ring-a-Ding as backup. However, Anton is able to mow them down, especially in his powered-up state, but partially due to the fact that he gave them a sound thrashing not too long ago even before he got empowered.
- Written Sound Effect: Whenever Anton hits an enemy, the words "Wham!" and "Pow!" are briefly displayed.
