ALittleSnowFairySugar

In a little town called Mühlenburg lives a girl named Saga, a talented pianist who lives by a rigid schedule and hates the unexpected. One day, she comes across an adorable little fairy, who is hungry enough to devour a waffle. This fairy, a bringer of snow (the Apprentice) named Sugar, soon upsets Saga's delicately ordered life with her other weather-bringing classmates and their antics.

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar is an Anime First show, known in Japan as (ちっちゃな雪使いシュガー Chitcha na Yukitsukai Shugaa). This show is egregiously adorable; so much so that it can be hard to prevent cavities from spontaneously spawning in your teeth due to the sweetness.

There was also a three-volume manga illustrated by BH Snow+Clinic and published by Kadokawa Shoten. Volume 1 was released not long after the anime premiered. The plot starts off identical to the anime but later takes a dramatic turn away from it, with new concepts such as Sugar turning back into an egg instead of getting sick when Saga is stressed and unhappy over the piano. The manga also renamed the town Guttenburg.

Tropes used in A Little Snow Fairy Sugar include:
  • Anime First
  • Bathtub Bonding: Saga and Sugar often share a bath while discussing the day's events.
  • Bifauxnen: Cheryl when she is performing in the Bear Pianist play, much to the surprise of Norma, who gave her a bunch of flowers thinking she was a guy.
  • Big Eater: some of the fairies, especially Sugar herself, are capable of eating several waffles per "meal", each individual waffle being larger than the average fairy.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Sugar passes her test, but vanishes as a result. Worse: Saga can't see any fairies anymore after that either (although she can apparently still see their starry flight trails). It's also hinted that Sugar still hangs around Saga, despite being unable to communicate with her directly.
  • By the Eyes of the Blind: Saga is one very rare human who is able to see and hear season fairies.
  • Catch Phrase: "WAFFO!"
  • Cats Are Mean: A cat chased Sugar and Salt for interrupting his nap; Pepper's reasoning didn't work.
  • Cheerful Child: Kanon.
  • Cool Big Sis: Saga to the Season Fairies. Ginger too.
  • Cool Old Guy: The Fairy Elder can be this if he tries.
  • Crazy Prepared: Saga, until the fairies show up.
  • Creature of Habit: Saga.
  • Dirty Old Man: The Fairy Elder.
  • Distant Finale: In the OVA.
  • Fairy Companion: Sugar, to Saga.
  • Flash Back: Saga's early childhood, when her mother was still alive, is often seen.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Sugar and the other faeries sometimes forget they can fly when it's convenient to the plot.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Pepper has a strong connection with animals and can speak their "languages."
  • Furo Scene: Quite a few, often combined with Bathtub Bonding between Saga and Sugar. Don't expect any Fan Service, though.
  • Genki Girl: Sugar and Kanon.
  • Heroic BSOD: Saga, after one of her friends received as a birthday present her mother's piano, which she didn't actually own, from the music shop she just played it at, and offered to let her play it any time.
  • History Repeats: Saga eventually teaches a child she has to babysit how to play a song on the miniature piano she owns, the same way her mother taught her (and also the same song she learnt).
  • Hopeless Suitor: The Fairy Elder is obsessed with Ginger, even though she already has feelings for Tumeric.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: The pouches that the season fairies keep their instruments in are entirely too small to fit them.
  • Idiot Hair: Saga, Sugar, Norma and Kanon all have this.
  • In the Blood: Saga's mother, Ingrid Bergman, was a talented pianist as well.
  • Invisible Backup Band: Literally, in one episode.
  • Invisible to Normals: The Season Fairies.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Greta.
  • Kawaisa: The character designs were by Koge-Donbo.
  • Large Ham: Greta, which she apparently got from her father.
  • Les Yay: Very mild, in that Sugar loves to kiss Saga quite a bit.
    • Greta's obsession with Saga is at times also a bit suspect.
    • After her initial surprise, Norma also doesn't seem swayed from her admiration of Cheryl, even after finding out she's a woman.
  • Mad Scientist: One of Saga's friends wants to be an inventor. He can get carried away when discussing or showing off his creations.
  • Magic Music: The Season Fairies, except the Elder.
  • Meganekko: Saga's teacher, and Pepper.
  • Missing Mom: Saga's mother never appears except in flashbacks. This is because she passed away before the show began.
  • Moe Stare: See here.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Greta.
  • No Communities Were Harmed: The story takes place in the fictional city Mühlenburg (as can be deducted from the Mühlenburg Festival in episode 18 and episode 23's title "Tiny Miracle at Mühlenburg") In the manga, the city is called Guttenburg. Either way, its based on Rothenburg ob der Tauber, with is a small Bavarian city famous for its well-preserved medieval old town.
  • Obsessed Are the Listmakers: Saga starts the series as a compulsive list-maker ... then she meets Sugar.
  • OVA: A Little Snow Fairy Sugar Summer Special
  • Otaku O'Clock[context?]
  • Parental Abandonment: No mention is ever made of Saga's father, and her mother is dead.
  • Painting the Frost on Windows: The fairies use their instruments to create the weather.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: A Japanese remake of "Sugar Baby Love" by The Rubettes
  • Rich Bitch: Greta tries to act this way, waving her wealth and high-brow lifestyle around to brag to people, but she is most often ignored
    • And the one time her actions actually affect Saga--it's not at all the way Greta wanted it to.
  • Romantic Two-Girl Friendship: Anne and Norma clearly give off the vibe.
    • The relationship between Saga and Sugar gradually moves into that territory as well.
  • Rose-Haired Girl: Sugar.
  • Scenery Porn: See Shown Their Work below.
  • Schedule Fanatic: Saga.
  • School Play: In the OVA.
  • Series Goal: Finding the Twinkles.
  • Shown Their Work: The team who did the anime version of Sugar did some pretty in-depth research on various German towns before they designed Saga's hometown. DVD extras show how many things in Saga's hometown line up nicely with various actual landmarks and buildings in Real Life.
  • Solemn Ending Theme[context?]
  • Spoiled Sweet: Greta. Although her early characterization is somewhat flat as she flaunts her wealth and tries to establish herself as Saga's rival, in the end she gives Saga an open invitation to play her birthday gift--the piano that Saga's grandmother had to sell after Saga's mother died. The last scene in the OVA indicates that she and Saga are best friends.
  • Squirrels in My Pants: Well, fairies in Greta's shirt and her hair.
  • Stationary Wings: Sugar and her fairy pals' wings seem to be little more than decorations. They fly simply because they want to.
  • Tear Jerker: The Bear Pianist is this in-universe.
  • Theme Naming: The fairies are named after spices.
  • Those Two Guys: Norma and Anne for the girls, Jan and Alan for the boys, and Basil and Cinnamon for the fairies.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Sugar really digs waffles.
  • Turtle Power: Ms. Hanna's turtle, Lancelot. Pepper helps teach him to fly.
  • Unknown Rival: Greta, for Saga.
  • Unsettling Gender Reveal: Norma finds out the "guy" actor she crushes on is a woman. She still thinks she's cool, though.
  • You Can See Me?: Sugar to Saga in episode one.
