For a post-apocalyptic Manga series featuring the last days of humanity, Ai-Ren contains a surprisingly amount of Heartwarming Moments, to the point where you can call this a Crowning Manga of Heartwarming.
Several of these Heartwarming Moments are the following...
- Nearly all of Ikuru and Ai's "moments" together qualify for this trope.
- "It's okay. Ai is still here." Then the scene with the tomato plant right after.
- The whole of Chapter 35.5.
- The Enfante Terrible Ikuru carries outside the dome. He cries... and dies soon after.
