Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy: This is the big reason why the series got canceled after only seven episodes, practically nobody liked just how big assholes the characters were.
  • Dude, Not Funny: Whenever the show tries to be funny, it usually falls flat on its face.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Julie and Jeremy, for being rather sympathetic. Also, Sheila, Allen Gregory's biological mom, except not really, for her being a competent mom and humiliating Allen Gregory.
  • Fridge Horror: There's a lot of this in the De Longpre household: Richard basically Mind Raped a straight man into being his lover. And Allen Gregory just assumes that this is what relationships are like.
    • The superintendant openly sexually harrasses and is implied to have date raped Gina. He's never recieved any comupance for these actions. Likewise, Allen acts like this is perfectly normal and often laughs at the superintendant highly amoral antics.
  • Ho Yay: One-sided: Allen wants to be on Joel's good side, oblivious that he doesn't want any of it.
    • Les Yay: In Gay School Dance, Beth and Val are pretty much the only students who seem to enjoy the setup.
  • So Okay It's Average: The opinion of viewers who didn't loathe it.
  • Uncanny Valley: The characters look off, especially Allen who looks way too much like a ventriloquist dummy.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Played for Laughs, natch. Richard is pretty much every negative stereotype and right-wing gay agenda conspiracy theory, minus the conspiracy part (adopts a child for all the wrong reasons and badly mistreats her; raises his artificially created biological son to be as perverse and amoral as himself; rapes and "converts" straight, All-American family man) taken Up to Eleven.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Apparently, we were supposed to think of Julie as being unlikable considering she shows disdain for the title character...but considering Allen makes it obvious that he hates her for no explicit reason (even when she tries to comfort him about having to go to public school), she actually comes across as sympathetic.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Theoretically, we're supposed to think Allen Gregory is funny, or failing that, sympathize with him since he's forced to go to public school due to Richard presumably being careless for his funding. This falls flat when instead of Allen simply being upset about going to public school, he instead throws a temper tantrum, showing him to be a spoiled brat, indicating that he doesn't deserve wealth in the first place. This is best shown when he cries like a baby after he ends up soiling himself. Considering that he showed blatant disrespect for his teacher and was also shown to be perverted when he visited his principal, it's actually amusing to see him soil his pants instead of making us feel sorry for him.
