Aptitude Test

Julie Ann Carey and Rina Wu are your average, everyday girls, slogging through life at the usual pace; Julie's a bit shy and socially awkward, and easy to harass, while Rina is assertive and confident. One day, they happen to take an aptitude test at school, and to everyone's surprise, Julie's test reveals that she would do quite well as a superhero.

Enter Momentum, Julie's mentor for the day ? a superhero with the power to affect the inertia of moving objects. Despite Julie's misgivings about the line of work she's 'best suited for', Momentum nevertheless advises her to just go on ahead and try her best at whatever she does wind up doing.

The only problem is that while the superhero/villain universe is leaving her alone (for now), it's dropping harder than usual on her hometown....

Tropes used in Aptitude Test include:

• Bi the Way: Rina. Made even funnier by the fact that Aaron asks her only because it was a rumor, and wasn't expecting confirmation.
• Cool Big Sis: Momentum, on and off the job, is as normal as can be, and pretty relaxed, almost spacey, until the situation demands otherwise.
• Deadpan Snarker: Every character has elements of this, but Rina tends to stand out, since this is her default mode. Not as grouchy as most snarkers, though.
• Half-Human Hybrid, Catgirl: As her name obviously implies, Feline. Unlike Momentum, her powers seem to have been given to her on purpose. Then again, Momentum isn't sure that her own powers weren't an accident, and that a certain company may have had a hand in her power gain....
• I Just Want to Be Normal: Regardless of what her test says, Julie is really less than eager about jumping into a world full of heroes and villains. For good reason, of course.
• Magical Girl: On page 15 of issue 8, Angela becomes one, à la Sailor Moon.
• Otaku: Julie and Rina sort of fit this; their interests span computer games and comicdom, and there are a number of jokes and references to both.
• Invisible to Gaydar: Aaron, Julie's crush. The worst part is that he tells her this while they're on their first date. Luckily, she's not shaken up by it at all, and is grateful that he took the time to tell her in private instead of embarrassing her by turning her down in front of a host of people.
• Token Minority: Surprisingly averted: the cast may not be even steven, but there are more black people around than one might expect to see in any given webcomic.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Julie and Rina, again. Bonus points for guessing who's who.
• Weirdness Magnet: Ever since Julie met Momentum, things have begun picking up in Julie's small town. Just ask Nick. Or Angela.
