Non-verbally agreeing with Tony about his intentions behind Ultron's creation. Does he actually think having someone as powerful as Ultron on their side could have helped or is he just humouring Tony?
Was he actually worthy enough to wield Mjølnir or did the hammer just jump to the nearest person as Thor was in danger of dying?
Thanos destroying the Infinity Stones. Was it out of a spiteful and selfish desire so that the Avengers couldn't undo his work, or because he was concerned that he'd be tempted into Jumping Off the Slippery Slope and diving into A God Am I? The attitudes of his 2014 self, suggest that this was a valid concern.
Some also think that Thanos was not giving Nebula a Pet the Dog moment. He was just trying to score sympathy points and weasel out of any punishment. The majority opinion however is that losing every one of his children but her led him to undergoing a Jerkass Realization and that he is genuinely happy that she's still alive.
Carol's I Work Alone attitude. Is she a Smug Super who's so above everyone else and doesn't need anyone's help? Has being The Ageless and travelling across the galaxy, alone, for the last quarter century, understandably, stunted her social skills? Is it a mask to cope with the sheer death toll? Or is it a holdover from her Starforce days and she's conditioned, not unlike Steve Rogers, to think of herself as expendable after being All of the Other Reindeer for six years?
Angst? What Angst?: Not one of the snap's victims has any reaction to coming back to life. Possibly justified as one of the Infinity Stones is the Time Stone, so it's possible that time was simply rewound for them, but Peter not remembering is still quite jarring.
Anvilicious: When all the ladies charge together in the finale. Especially since all the human females are Base Breakers. Made worse since Carol did not need any help getting through Thanos' hordes. For reference, she just destroyed Thanos' Cool Ship single-handedly and is later shown cannonballing through several tanks.
One of Infinity War's biggest complaints was that the large cast wasn't balanced very well, Cap in particular. This film, while having a smaller main cast, balances the screentime of the various groups much more evenly.
To a lesser extent, Wong actually does something this time around.
Pepper actually being a badass and getting her own suit, as opposed to Iron Man 3 where she borrowed the Mark 42.
Thanos is wearing a full suit of armor this time, as opposed to his gym clothes-like getup from the last film.
It was never explained why Loki was muzzles in the denouement of The Avengers. This film shows Thor did it out of annoyance to silence Loki's jibes and taunts. Likewise, it shows some more about SHIELD dealing with the immediate fallout of the failed invasion.
After being Out of Focus for so long, Rene Russo finally gets to flex her acting skills as Frigga.
When the Black Order was first introduced, people whined about them not getting any screen time with Gamora and Nebula. The siblings finally share some scenes.
After sitting out Guardians of the Galaxy and Infinity War, the Chitauri return as part of Thanos' army.
In the end, Steve goes back in time to live out his days with Peggy. While this has not been universally beloved, it's generally better received than Steve/Sharon.
Base Breaker: Professor Hulk. Most love him but those that don't have not been shy in expressing this.
The fallout from Civil War, or the lack thereof, continues to be this. The closest we get to discussing it is that Tony is still royally pissed at what a monumental Hypocrite Cap was.
For those who haven't forgiven Tony, they hate that he got to live a happy life for five years.
For those who haven't forgiven Cap, they hate that Tony died and Cap got his happily-ever-after despite him having been the instigator of Civil War.
Tony being the one who kills Thanos. Aside from it killing him, many a fan felt that Nebula, like in the comics, should have been the one to wield the Gauntlet after Thanos, finally allowing her to have her revenge against her father.
Steve going back to live in the '40s. While one could argue that he was forever doomed to be a Fish Out of Temporal Water, it negates all the Character Development he went through, particularly in Age of Ultron, about moving on and accepting that he's no longer the man that he was in WWII. This has been a point of contention about Cap since Civil War. Not only that, it seems to ignore his Undying Loyalty to Bucky.
Thanos. First, he sheds his Adaptational Heroism from the previous film and then he sheds his over-reliance on the Infinity Gauntlet and proves he's still a capable fighter without it. While his Infinity War portrayal was very faithful to the Starlin-penned Thanos it was also faithful to his Early Installment Weirdness. Warrior!Thanos is based on how everyone else writes Thanos, and is in fact Thanos' default characterization in all other Marvel media.
Contested Sequel: Endgame has been very well-received by most everyone. Whether it's as good as Infinity War or not is a matter of debate.
Continuity Lock Out: As the functional Grand Finale of the Infinity Saga, it should come as no surprise that one has to have seen pretty much ever prior film to understand all the jokes and references.
Creator's Pet: Given the treatment of Tony and Thor, some view Cap as the Russos'. Not a hard leap of logic to make considering that they are self-professed Cap fanboys.
Draco in Leather Pants: When he was ambushed on Titan II, Thanos was in the middle of making himself a soup from ingredients he grew in his garden. Much like Bucky buying plums in Civil War, this innocuous act from such a Dreaded being endeared him to many.
Esoteric Happy Ending: All those who got snapped in Infinity War come back to life, yes. But the world has already moved on and adjusted to a smaller population when they do. The Avengers essentially created a four billion or so refugee crisis that would bring about a world that needs Thanos' "kill 50% of all life scenario". Some YouTube videos explainit.
To a lesser extent, bringing everyone back in the exact same that they died also means that, as Spider-Man: Far From Homeshows, the revived have lost five years.
Carol explaining her absence in previous films. While the film is mute on why she was never called back to Earth to deal with world ending threats (unsurprising considering the man who could explain that is dead), it justifies that she never came back of her own accord because she was busy on other planets that don't have local Avengers. Likewise, Word of God explains that she never ran across the Asgardians or the Guardians because, aside from her looking for a place no one would ever find to hide the Skrulls in, space is big. It's more than likely that she never crossed paths with any of them. Reactions to this have ranged all the way from "Acceptable but a bit weak" to a stubborn refusal to even countenance the notion.
According to the Russos, the reason Cap is able to wield Mjølnir now when he wasn't in Age of Ultron is because, back in AoU, he was just sparing Thor's feelings. While it's consistent with what Joss Whedon had in mind, many would have preferred that Cap did indeed have some darkness within him. For what it's worth, the screenwriters view it as having Cap undergone Character Development since AoU that makes him worthy.
Steve making Sam the next Captain America. According to the Russos, he passed over Bucky out of fear that Bucky's triggers might still be lingering and he could relapse into the Winter Solider. To be exceedingly blunt, this is a complete 180 from Cap's reasoning in Civil War.
Fandom Rivalry: With Game of Thrones Season 8. Not surprising since both epic sagas were coming to a close, and that the film came out days before the Night King invaded Winterfell. Became downplayed when GoT went through a rather epic Seasonal Rot.
Since The Nineties, Carol has been travelling the cosmos, fighting the Kree, and other baddies, on countless other planets.
The five year Time Skip, specifically Morgan Stark's birth.
Thanks to the time travel shenanigans, there's an alternate Loki running around. Spinning off that, there's now a Thanos free timeline to explore. One where the Guardians of the Galaxy seemingly never form.
Cap returning the Infinity Stones (which means he met the Red Skull again) and living out the rest of his days with Peggy. Who knows what he got up to?
The Avengers have a working time machine. Who knows what it'll be used for.
Fridge Horror: As noted above, there's now a timeline where the Guardians of the Galaxy never form. Ego's most likely still alive in this timeline.
Harsher in Hindsight: Hulk, War Machine and Rocket's near death experience's upon nearly drowning when Oreo, Rocket's model passed away shortly before this film was released.
The shots of an empty New York City now give the chills after the COVID-19 pandemic started a year later.
He Really Can Act: Paul Rudd made a name for himself by being the Comic Relief in many films and the Ant-Man films were Lighter and Softer instalments that followed Age of Ultron and Infinity War (so much so that Breather Episode Character was originally "The Ant-Man"). Here, Rudd gets a chance to show off his acting chops and that he does have a grasp on dramatic timing and pauses.
Hilarious in Hindsight: Dave Bautista expressed disappointment that Drax never got to have a fight with Thanos. Five years later, both Bautista and Brolin would star in Dune: Part Two where Brolin's character swore a vengeance on Bautista's and managed to kill the latter.
Hype Backlash: Downplayed compared to most examples of this trope but as the Grand Finale of the biggest media giant of the decade, Marvel, quite understandably, heavily hyped up Endgame since the moment Infinity War ended. But as little as six months after its release, people began taking a much more critical look at Endgame. It's hardly considered a bad film, but with the hype train stopped, Endgame is simply viewed as another movie, one with its own flaws.
The directors announced that the film would feature an openly LGBT character. Could it be the Ambiguously Bi Thor or Carol? Nebula, whose sexual preferences have never been touched on? Maybe even Steve Rogers who has some veryquestionable moments with Bucky? Nope, it's a throwaway bit character who serves as a Creator Cameo for Joe Russo.
Memetic Loser: Black Widow's Side-plait has become a target for a small number of Anime fans, as her plait is commonly designated as a "Hair of Death". It doesn't help that Black Widow actually died in the movie.
The rather arrogant proclamation that every time travel media has gotten time travel wrong and that this is the correct way to do it. It's not uncommon to find fanfics where other time travellers chew out the Avengers for using such a dangerous form of time travel technology and being hacks at navigating space/time.
The scene of every female charging together is near universally despised for how cringe inducing it is. It's so bad that literally any other media having females in a shot together will have at least one comment on how it's better female representation than Endgame.
Older Than They Think: Related to Professor Hulk's above claim that their method of time travel is the correct one and every other media has got it wrong, Star Trek had the exact same method, and consequences of, time travel a full decade earlier.
Thor: The Dark World. It's regarded as one of the worst MCU films (second only to The Incredible Hulk) but Thor meeting with Frigga at the time of the film is one of the most heartwarming moments of the whole MCU and adds some powerful drama to that time. Some fans even admit to liking Dark World more now.
For some fans, Scott and Cap. The former for being so forgettable and the latter for redeeming himself after Civil War.
After his actions in Infinity War, Star Lord becoming a Butt Monkey (his past self getting punched by Rhodey and his present being kicked in the nuts by Gamora) earned him the forgiveness of many for what he did.
Scapegoat Creator: Any flaw in this film is the fault of the Russo brothers, to the point that the duo are so very close to becoming real life scrappies.
Captain Marvel. Not only is she an Advertised Extra but her Story-Breaker Power is very rarely showed off, despite the high stakes. Granted, the film offers explanations for this (mainly that Carol is busy on other planets) but it still comes off as a weak justification, especially considering that she would have been an invaluable asset in the Time Heist (there'd be no chance of her running into her past self and given that there's a time machine, it's not like they couldn't afford to wait with her knowing of a six year period where the Space Stone was totally unguarded). To a lesser extent, she and Fury don't interact. Then again, considering that her movie was still being filmed, her time being cut down was unavoidable.
Hulk. While Professor Hulk is Adorkable, some were itching for Hulk and Thanos to have a rematch after the opening of Infinity War.
Drax. His arc of confronting Thanos for the death of his wife and daughter (Drax's world was invaded by Ronan under Thanos' orders and Drax was in the lucky 50%) ultimately amounted to nothing.
Nebula. While she certainly gets more screentime than previous films, many feel that she was owed the Gauntlet and the snap that killed Thanos.
The Loki from 2012 is but a Living Prop despite acquiring an Infinity Stone.
Lady Sif continues to be this. There's not even a mention of what became of her since Ragnarok. Justified since her actress is busy with other projects and couldn't put in the time.
SHIELD. Despite everyone being Back for the Finale, Nick Fury and Maria Hill don't do anything in the final battle. Likewise, Sharon Carter is still MIA from Civil War.
To a certain degree, Thanos. The one from Infinity War dies about 15 minutes into the film and the past version that serves as the Big Bad hasn't undergone the 2018 version's Character Development, coming off more as a Generic Doomsday Villain to some. In particular, 2018!Thanos naming Tony and insinuating that he and Iron Man weren't so different amounted to nothing.
Truer to the Text: The Thanos in Infinity War and the beginning of this movie was drawn from how Jim Starlin writes Thanos, which is equal parts Early Installment Weirdness and Character Shilling. Past!Thanos, who serves as the Big Bad of the movie, is much more in line with the more well-known, non-Starlin Thanos from the comics.
The Avengers following the Time Skip. While it's awful that half of humanity died, the rest of the world seems to have, largely, moved on from the tragedy, making the Avengers seems somewhat Wangsty.
For some reason, Falcon. He doesn't do anything but everyone seems to have left the film with a negative view of him.
Pepper when Tony is dying. While everyone could understand what she's going through, she still pulls Peter away from his goodbye to Tony so she can have hers. Her last words to Tony can also come across as very insincere and condescending.
To some fans, Steve going back in time to live with Peggy came across as incredibly selfish and irresponsible as he abandoned all his friends, Bucky in particular, essentially undoing the underlying motivation of his entire trilogy.
Had Nebula not been sent to Morag in 2014 (where she knew her past self would be), the Black Order wouldn't have been notified of the time travel and the final battle likely wouldn't have happened. Likewise, she could have returned to 2023 immediately after she got her motor functions back but instead chose to run to the pod to try and warn Barton and Romanoff.
To a lesser extent, sending an emotionally unstable Thor back to Asgard in its prime, on the day his mother died.
While it's convenient that three Infinity Stones were all in New York in 2012, the fact that two of them were in such a chaotic environment makes it questionable as a choice, especially since Tony knew of another place to get the Space Stone from and the Avengers should remember that the Mind Stone was locked in the basement of HYDRA's castle for a good three years.
It's only after that stealing the Space Stone goes awry does Tony suggest going back in time to steal more Pym Particles. One would expect that such an idea might have been brought up in the planning phase.
In a truly monumental instance of Failed a Spot Check, Past!Thanos doesn't realize that the second time he slips on the Nano Gauntlet, there's no overwhelming surge of energy from the Infinity Stones.
