Bear are animals that are bad news to anyone willing to make them livid. They're huge, frighteningly powerful, robustly durable, rather fast, and will kill a person slowly as well.

But when they aren't angry or hungry, bear can be quite cute. They've got lots of fluff that make them look joyfully chubby, fun to cuddle, and faces show a simple form of innocence. Adults gives off a Gentle Giant feel, but the cubs are one of the cutest animals on Earth. Unsurprisingly, these traits can be use for toys where teddy bears' popularity on why bears are seen as so incredibly cute.

This trope has been prolific that fictional bears are portrayed as adorable and friendly instead of violent beast ready to maul other animals. It also overlaps with Beary Funny since some of these bears can be rather goofy and there is Pandaing to the Audience for more specific quality regarding how adorable nature of panda bears.

  • Snuggle Bear is the mascot for the Snuggle brand fabric softener; the bear is not only cute but also soft to show how good the brand's fabric softener works.

Anime and Manga[]

  • Super Kuma-san, alter ego of Kuma-san, is a living teddy bear who acts as a superhero in a quaint town to bring justice and peace. He also does dances to music with the park clown to bring children joy.
  • Rilakuma and Kaoru, are teddy bear creatures who live in an apartment with a salary woman named Kaoru. They often laze around the house and eat snacks, especially honey pancakes, but do give some relief in Kaoru's day-to-day life.
  • Mofurun, from Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure, was an average teddy bear, but thanks to magic, she came to life. She can sense magic and the Linkle Stones and acts as the duo's Transformation Trinket into Pretty Cure with the help of a Linkle Stone. In the movie, Mofurun becomes a Cure herself with a bear motif with the Wishing Stone's help.
  • Enforced in Killing Bites, the Giant Panda Brute, Wang Aizhen, uses her cuteness to appeal to the audience. Wang uses a panda's adorable characteristics while showing the same strength and brutality of a bear combined with her martial arts expertise.
  • Symbolized in Yuri Kuma Arashi, the bears and the lesbian relationships is a symbolic parallel of Japan's view of homosexuality with bears' depiction in popular media. Bears tend to have a cuteness to them in pop culture but are dangerous creatures in reality. Japan's view of lesbians, while having a large amount of media such as anime and manga with a positive outlook, but have trouble gaining acceptance within Japanese society.
  • Xiao-Mei, from Fullmetal Alchemist, is the small pet panda of May Chang while also being her traveling companion. Despite being so little, she is rather protective of May Chang and often mimics May's actions.
  • Kumamon, from Digimon Frontier, is Beastman Digimon that looks like a small bear made of snow in green armor and power over Ice.
  • Yuna, from Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, was a hikikomori gets transported to another world with a set of bear equipment: a bear suit with bear hand puppets as weapons. The items look more like a costume, but they have overpowered stats and skills. Her magic is also potent when it takes a bear-like form.
  • Bepo from One Piece is a seemingly meek Bear Mink who acts as navigator for the Hearts Pirates. He seems weak willed but shows willpower along with martial art skills.
    • Subverted with Bear-Man a Gifter who has eaten the Bear SMILE Fruit. His form depicts the hybrid form of a Zoan Fruit while showing a rather adorable appearance. However, due to eating a SMILE Fruit, he still has his human face in the muzzle.
  • In BNA: Brand New Animal, The Bears are a baseball team of mostly Bear Beastmen in the Anima City Baseball League. They are rather cute and innocent but inexperienced at the game but find fun playing it.
  • Panda from Jujutsu Kaisen is an upbeat yet calm, Abrupt Mutated Cursed Corpse with a sense of humor that resembles a panda.

Film[]

  • Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear, from Toy Story 3, is a rather classy pink teddy bear with a friendly disposition and acts as Sunnyside Daycare's old but kindly caretaker. His friendliness is a facade; thanks to being abandoned by his owner by being replaced with another Lotso, he becomes ruthless and cold-blooded. He lords over the daycare with an iron fist where he forces other toys to deal with rowdy and destructive toddlers or be punished severely.

Music[]

  • The music video,The Secret About That Girl, by E ve shows a line of toy bears as gacha and stuffed animals. They even take part in the teen boy's fantasies about the girl.

Video Games[]

  • Teddiursa, from Pokémon, is the Little Bear Pokemon that resembles a brown teddy bear with a crescent moon on its head and often feasting on honey.
    • Cubchoo, introduced in Generation V, is the Chill Pokemon that looks like an adorable white bear cub with mucus dripping from its snout.
    • Pancham, introduced in Generation VI, is the Playful Pokemon that resembles a little panda chewing on a leaf while emulating the behavior of Pangoro, the evolved form of Pancham.
    • Stufful, introduced in Generation VII, is the Flailing Pokemon that looks like a small pink quadruped teddy bear with extreme strength that can knock out well-trained Pokemon. Their evolved form, Bewear, is also adorable and resembles a Japanese mascot. They are rather friendly, but due to their massively increasing strength, its bad news for those they try to share their hugs.
    • Kubfu, introduced in Generation VIII, is the Wushu Pokemon that resembles a gray teddy bear with a white headband-hair who train their body and mind.
  • Clark Wonderbot, from Inazuma Eleven Go 2: Chrono Stone, is an android that looks like a blue teddy bear. Whenever Clark gets excited, he turns pink, which happens during soccer matches, plus he also dislikes being called a bear.
  • From Persona 4, Teddie is a bear-like creature that resembles a living mascot that the Investigation Team first meets in the Midnight Channel. It is later revealed that he was once a Shadow but developed into a form so that humans could like him more.
  • In Sands of Destruction (video game), there are two types of Bear Ferals where one type looks like humanoid bears and the other resemble teddy bears. Taupy Topuran is a Teddy Bear Feral who is cute but holds himself in a fight.

  • Out of all of Freddy Fazbear's incarnations across the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, Toy Freddy does the best job at invoking this what with his blushing cheeks, round belly, and adorably dopey voice. But he becomes a lot less cuter after dark, where he and the rest of his animatronic brethren will stalk the halls of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and attempt to cruelly kill whatever poor sap has been tasked with guard duty.
    • Helpy, introduced in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator is a more straightforward example. He's a chibified version of Funtime Freddy, but unlike his dangerous big brother? He's completely passive and helpful towards the player, being willing to help them manage their pizzeria while doing adorable happy dances to pass the time! Unfortunately, he's now one of the many threats the player has to deal with in Ultimate Custom Night, but even there he's more adorable than scary since the only thing he can do is blow an airhorn in the player's face.

  • Angus Delaney from Night in the Woods is a quiet, stoic, and introverted bear who's boyfriend to the hyperactive Gregg. He seems to be disconnected except to Gregg but does show humor and emotions at certain times.

  • Molly Blyndeff, from Epithet Erased, is a 12-year-old with a bear motif through hair loops styled like bear ears and her custom made bear hoodie. There is also her minion nickname of 'Bear Trap' given by Giovanni.

  • IF's Teddiecious Bearkensteel is the Companion of Charlotte that comes in the form of a large pink teddy bear wearing golden armor and acts as the girl's knight.

Western Animation[]

  • The Care Bears are technicolor teddy bear-like bears with a Belly Badge (special symbols on their bellies related to their personality and magical powers). They often help children on Earth, along with countering plans of any evil being.
  • Fluffy and Uranus are pink and blue teddybear-esque office assistants to Duckman. They are both cute to an exaggerated level along with their politically correct nature but can come off as needlessly annoying.
  • Andy Panda is a cute panda cub going on different adventures around the world.
  • Winnie-the-Pooh is a cute yet simple yellow teddy bear who wears a red shirt that acts relatively simple and often eats honey. He lives in the 100-Acre Woods, where he often plays with Christopher Robin and his other friends.
  • 5.0.5, from Villainous, is a large blue bear with a yellow flower growing out of his head. He is a failed experiment created by Dr.Flug but shows invulnerability while helping anyone around him but can get scared relatively easily.
  • Ro-Bear Berbils are small robotic bears who help the Thundercats and other people on Third Earth with either food or technology.
  • Little Bear is a curious 6-year-old grizzly bear cub who lives in the woods with his family. He also ventures out into the woods with friends.
  • One of Max Steel's allies, Torbolt, a clumsy Ultralink who under the command of Makino's army but defected after learning from Steel that he can rebel. He linked with a thrown-away teddy bear but was able to fight against other Ultralink and even Mega-Elementor before finding new freedom.

Real Life[]

  • As a rule, bear cubs are incredibly cute! Whether they're grizzly bears, black bears, panda bears, or any of the other numerous species out there, it's hard to resist the urge to cuddle and snuggle with one. But if you ever run into one in the wild, Keep your distance. Mother bears are infamously protective of their cubs and no matter your intentions, they will fuck you up six ways to Sunday if they catch you anywhere near them.
  • Fuzzy, soft, and achingly adorable, teddy bears are among the most beloved children's toys around the world for a damn good reason. And they can thank U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt for that: the first teddy bear was created in response to a series of satirical comics and drawings made in response to Teddy refusing to shoot a bear his men had incapacitated during a hunting trip. While the bear itself was an adult, most artists interpretations made it out to be a frightened little cub which won the hearts of many an American. So when Morris Mitchom and his wife decided to sell toy bears named after "Teddy's Bear" they were a massive hit, and the rest is history.
