Bionicle 2015 is a Continuity Reboot of Bionicle, that ran from 2015-2016.

This version of the story starts off on the island of Okoto, a tropical paradise that was home to 2 brothers, respected creators of elemental Masks of Power- Ekimu, bearer of the Mask of Creation, and Makuta, bearer of the Mask of Control.

This version of the story starts off on the island of Okoto, a tropical paradise that was home to 2 brothers, respected creators of elemental Masks of Power- Ekimu, wearer of the Mask of Creation, and Makuta, wearer of the Mask of Control.

Similar to the original story, Makuta was less popular than Ekimu, and unhappy about it. Makuta eventually decides to create a Mask of Ultimate Power to show Ekimu up. It quickly took control of his mind and started to make him destroy Okoto, forcing Ekimu to knock the mask off Makuta, sacrifice himself and cast the both of them into endless sleep. Both of their masks were lost, and Okoto's Protectors, worried for the island, called down six Masters of the elements- the Toa- to gather their elemental masks and save the island.

As old-school admirers of the original series should notice, Bionicle 2015 takes heavy inspiration from the first few years of its original run. The backstory resembles that of 2001, easter eggs and shoutouts to various elements of the original series abound, and even the Toa themselves, in spite of using the CCBS (Character and Creature Building System) from the Hero Factory sets, were created to be as close as possible to their 2001 counterparts whilst still having their own identities- they include gear functions and masks that can be knocked off and removed.

The first year features the Toa/Protectors searching for golden masks, which once again, give them elemental powers. Then they battle against an arc boss called Lord of the Skull Spiders, which, giving that the actual fight lasted slightly more than 2 minutes, is pretty pathetic. (And according to the toy size, is a pushover for even a single Toa)

Then, of course, they discover Ekimu, the heroic mask maker, who tells them that yet another mask The Mask of Creation has been stolen by a follower of Makuta, and now they face off against a whole other team of Skull-themed villains who seem to like a one-on-one rivalry against the Toa.

While the series lacks an online game like the adored MNOLG of 2001 - frequently named as the best experience the original series had to offer- there are numerous online animations detailing the on-going adventures of the Toa as they battle to save Okoto. The official website can be found here.

In 2016, Netflix launched a 4-episode CGI-animated show named LEGO: Bionicle: The Journey to One.

Sadly, on July 29th, 2016, when Netflix began streaming the final episodes of Journey to One, Lego announced that they were discontinuing Bionicle at the end of the year.
