Blush is a 2021 animated short by Skydance Media about a horticulturist astronaut who gets trapped on a dwarf planet, where he meets a pink alien.

Looks pretty cute, doesn't it?

Looks pretty cute, doesn't it?

The short opens to the astronaut on his ship planting a garden but he doesn't see an asteroid coming up and hits it, landing on a dwarf planet. Unsure of what to do, he plants his in the soil but start to die, as they don't have air. After this, a pink saucer crashes and knocks away one of the bell jars, after which he sees a tree sprouting. Bewildered, he goes to check it out, coming across an alien with ribbony hair.

Tropes used in Blush include:
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: The Alien is pink, has no nose, and is capable of generating oxygen. Oh, and she has ribbon hair. This applies to their kids, as their older daughter has pink but otherwise human hair, while their younger one has black but ribbon like hair.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Later in the short, the Alien loses her appetite, gets to a point where she can't walk anymore, and gets weaker as time goes on, something that might call to mind of cancer and the effects of chemotherapy.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: The Astronaut's and the Alien's daughters.
  • Ill Girl: By a point, the Alien starts to get weaker, until she doesn't eat or even walk anymore. Of note is that she starts to turn more muted.
  • Mime-and-Music-Only Cartoon: Outside vocal effects, no one speaks.
  • No Name Given: Neither the Astronaut, the Alien, or their kids are given names
  • Reality Ensues:
    • It's actually very hard to terraform a planet without any oxygen starters to keep the plants alive.
    • Without the Alien, the astronaut starts to suffocate, that is until he finds out that his daughters inherited their mom's powers.
  • Short Runner: The short is about 10 minutes long.
