In April 2004, a thread in that site prompted a fellow calling himself "Webmonkey Gus" to set up a small wiki about plot devices on a humble 386 computer with a DSL connection. That wiki later became TV Tropes, the direct ancestor of this site.
It's well known around the forums that member, "Webmonkey Gus" is also "Fast Eddie" and Gus offed his online persona "Gus" and replaced it with "Fast Eddie".[1] It should be noted that "Fast Eddie" doesn't have an account there but "Webmonkey Gus" does.
