- Odasaku's death. The guy just wanted to quit working as a mafia dog and write his own novel, but fate gets in the way. Mimic blowing up the children he had come to care about utterly breaks him and he goes willingly to his death because someone has to pay for taking their lives. And even with Dazai begging him not to, he still goes.
- Dazai, of all people, brokenly asking Odasaku to tell him what to do as he's dying of his injuries. Odasaku responds that Dazai will never fill the emptiness inside him, but he should still devote himself to being a good man. Dazai takes this to heart.
