Captain Flamingo! Looking out for little kids in a BIG way!

This Canadian Cartoon is about a young boy named Milo Powell. The series started in 2006. Deciding to take a stand for little kids everywhere, he becomes a superhero and after staring at a lawn flamingo in the backyard, becomes Captain Flamingo. While he has no actual superpowers, he uses a whole bunch of novelty store items, and has help from his best friend, Lizbeth Amanda Zaragoza, who acts as his sidekick and "Bird Brain". Together, they save kids from unusual situations in completely unusual ways.

Captain Flamingo originally aired on YTV from February 7, 2006 to March 26, 2010.

Tropes used in Captain Flamingo include:

• Action Duo: Milo and Lizbeth.
• Adorkable: Both Milo and Lizbeth. In Milo's case, his love for Quantum Vigilante and his kooky yet unique ways of solving problems. In Lizbeth's Case her fangirl worship of Captain Flamingo is downright adorkable.
• All Just a Dream: One episode had him dreaming he was fighting the Warrior Monkey while he was sleepwalking, and another where he and Lizbeth help his favorite superhero, Quantum Vigilante.
• Almost Kiss: He almost (Reluctantly) kisses Kirsten in one episode, but Lizbeth drags him away in time.
  • Lizbeth has also nearly kissed Milo a couple of times, including one moment during an closing episode's Couch Gag spoofing the Spaghetti Kiss scene from Disney's Lady and the Tramp.
• Alpha Bitch: Ruth Ann.
• Arch Enemy: The Warrior Monkey.
• Annoying Younger Sibling: Thor, Milo's baby brother. Tabitha has one in Tucker.
• Aside Glance: Frequent by either Milo or Lizbeth.
• Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny: Sanjay's main flaw. Avi has this at times.
• Aw, Look — They Really Do Love Each Other: Milo and Lizbeth have these moments on occasion. She may be annoyed at Milo's cluelessness, but it's clear they're close friends and care about each other. Milo's probably too proud to admit his feelings for Lizbeth, though.
  • Also, Milo and Dishrag, his pet cat. Despite getting on each other's nerves, they do have a nice bond between them.
• Backstory: Warrior Monkey has one. In his first appearance, Rutger buys a monkey as a pet, but it doesn't work out and the Captain needs to save him. After taking him back to the pet store, an organ grinder buys him in his second appearance and was forced to perform for kids. He then quits and becomes Captain Flamingo's arch nemesis. Also doubles as a Continuity Nod.
• Badly-Battered Babysitter: Milo plays this trope straight. Averted with Megan, the actual babysitter, mainly because she's good at what she does.
• Bare Your Midriff: Oddly enough, Lizbeth when she's not wearing her usual red dress. For example, there's her Belly Dancer costume she wore for Halloween, in another Halloween themed episode, she dressed like Lara Croft. Also, when they dress up as rappers, she's wearing a belly shirt.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens between Milo and the narrator (Usually).
• Bag of Holding: His backpack stores all sorts of novelty items.
• Beach Episode: A non-fanservice variety in Beach Blanket Flamingo.
• Black Best Friend: Rutger.
• Blinding Bangs: Avi.
• Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Ruth Ann (and/or Tabitha), Lizbeth and Kristen.
• Bratty Half-Pint: His cousin, Wendell, who rubs it in Milo's face that he's an eighth of an inch taller than him.
• Brainy Brunette: Lizbeth.
• Catch Phrase: Lizbeth's "There's a kid! In trouble!
• Cats Are Mean: His pet cat, Dishrag, subverts this. Sometimes she's helpful, but other times she's an annoyance.
• Chekhov's Gun: Several times due to his "Bird Brain" ideas. Sour candy, his kite he flew in the beginning of one episode, a Christmas Card he wrote to Santa So Lizbeth and her family can get Christmas presents, and several other instances.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Lizbeth, especially if Ruth Ann is involved. No one comes between her and her square shaped boy.
• Cloudcuckoolander: Milo.
• Companion Cube: Lizbeth's stuffed elephant, Chester. The Captain had to save it in one episode for her.
• Contrived Coincidence: This frequently happens as a result of his "Bird Brain" solutions.
• Couch Gag: The ending of each episode has the Captain doing something different during the Narrator's So Once Again the Day Is Saved moment. Sometimes it's posing with or without the logo, or interacting with the other characters in comical ways.
• Crazy Prepared: Tabitha wants to be this, being the perfectionist she is.
  • Captain Flamingo as well, given that he has so many novelty items.
  • In one episode, squirrels steal his backpack, and Lizbeth gives him hers until he gets it back. The everyday items (Pen and marker, for instance) turn out to be surprisingly helpful.
• Cross-Dressing Voices: Tabitha St. Germain voices Milo/Captain Flamingo.
• Deadpan Snarker: Lizbeth. Both Literally and Metaphorically.

• Deus Ex Machina: At the end of one episode, Milo's babysitter just happened to be a pro hockey player so she could take the place of a player she was babysitting. Her hockey playing skills were never brought up before.
• Dumb Blonde: Ruth Ann. Averted with Tabitha and Megan.
• Expository Theme Tune
• Embarrassing Middle Name: Milo Ignacius Powell, used by his mom as a Full Name Ultimatum in one episode. In fact, his father has the same middle name as him, and it's used in the same manner.
• Eureka Moment: His ability to misinterpret Lizbeth's suggestions while thinking with his "Bird Brain" is basically this. Even crazier is that his idea works (Usually).
• For Halloween I Am Going as Myself: Played straight for the most part in both Halloween episodes. But in Copycat Flamingo, one of the Halloween episodes, the Warrior Monkey poses as him to sabotage Halloween for the kids. He counters this by dressing up as the Warrior Monkey, being kind and friendly to other kids and ruining his plan. Near the end of the episode, Owen Only dresses up as Lizbeth right down to her Belly Dancer costume.
• G-Rated Drug: Don't even think about giving Owen-Only anything with sugar. DON'T.
• Genius Ditz: Milo definitely fits this trope.
• Girlish Pigtails: Lizbeth.
• Glasses Girl: Tabitha.
• The Glomp: Lizbeth hugs Milo a few times.
  • Milo does this to Lizbeth in Bunny Run when he's big enough to go on a rollercoaster ride. Cue hearts in Lizbeth's eyes.
• Gross-Out Show: This show has its moments. Examples include Milo's pet cat, Dishrag, suffering from bad gas in one episode and Rutger trying to escape a swimming pool after a kid's Potty Failure.
• Hair Decorations: Ruth Ann and Kirsten wear hairbows, and Lizbeth has scrunchies.
• Heart Symbol: Lizbeth when she sees Milo. This is most noticeable in the show's opening.
• Heroines Want Redheads: Lizbeth's crush on Milo.
• Human Mail: Milo and Lizbeth mail Rutger as a package to get him away from a babysitter who keeps tabs on him. It backfires.
• Idiot Ball: Frequently held by Milo, no less...
• I Got a Rock: Owen-Only's mom gives out toothbrushes on Halloween.
• I See London: An episode involved the Warrior Monkey giving wedgies to the neighborhood kids.
• Incredibly Lame Pun: Done several times by the narrator.
• Jumped At the Call: All the time. That's assuming it's not an April Fool's prank or Kirsten's faking it to be close to him.
• The Klutz: Avi. He constantly causes a HUGE string of accidents.
• Large Ham: Milo tends to act over the top a lot.

• Magic Skirt: Lizbeth, save for one instance where her panties are seen (See Panty Shot entry).
• Meganekko: Tabitha.
• Meaningful Name: Nick Names is a bully who gives kids mean names that stick with them for life. Lizbeth, with help from her older sister finds out he was ridiculed with a hurtful name himself after winning a flute concert and was nicknamed "Toot Toot" because he tooted out of both ends (And It's not the flute for the other end).
• My Beloved Smother: Owen-Only. His mom goes to ridiculous lengths to protect him. He frequently wears a ridiculous amount of safety gear, his house and especially his room has a security system, he goes to the beach with too much sunscreen more often than not and he even had to wear orthopedic underpants (Which the Captain and Lizbeth had to search through dirty laundry at the pool when it got lost). He can't get a break anywhere.
• Mr. Fixit: Lizbeth's dad.
• Mr. Imagination: His "Flamingo colored glasses" have this ability.
• Nobody Poops: Averted, as toilet humor gets used from time to time. One example is his dad being stuck in the bathroom and using the toilet three days in a row from eating too much cheese.
• Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Happens frequently until his bird brain provides his Eureka Moment.
• Only One Name: With the exception of Max Roderick and Kirsten McBradden, the kids they have to save are only known by their first names.
• Only Sane Man: In spite of her obsession with Milo. Lizbeth really comes off as this.
• Panty Shot: Kirsten gets a few of these when she's bouncing around on an out of control vacuum cleaner in The Last Stand, and Lizbeth also gets one in the dream sequence during Volunteers For Fears when she and the Captain are trapped in the net. But Ruth-Ann in Ten-Pin Peril wins the prize for "Most Convenient Angle To Get A Panty Shot" when she trips over her ridiculously huge bowling shoes and slides down the alley hitting the pins, with the camera looking right up her dress.
• Phrase Catcher: "Uh-oh! Flamingo!"
• Potty Emergency: Milo has one in Water You Waiting For?
• The Rival: Wendell to Milo. Tabitha and Sanjay are also competing in various events.
• So Once Again the Day Is Saved: "Captain Flamingo! Looking out for little kids in a BIG way!
• She Is Not My Girlfriend: Milo towards Kirsten. She'll often fake emergencies just to spend time with him. In a He is Not My Boyfriend case, Tabitha towards Otto, since she finds him disgusting.
  • To a lesser extent, Milo and Lizbeth. Due to ship teasing she may or may not have him. Lizbeth's sure of herself she will, though...
• Stalker with a Crush: Kirsten and to a certain extent Lizbeth (both towards Milo).
• Real Men Wear Pink: Subverted. He does wear a pink and blue outfit, but he's not exactly tough. He does manage to save the day, nonetheless.
• Rescue Romance: Accidental, but it's the reason why Lizbeth's in love with Milo. When they were babies, she flew off of a swing and Milo coincidentally broke her fall when he fell in the sand while making a sand castle. This was also the first time they met, and she never forgets it to this day.
• Reset Button: In one episode, Owen Only gets roller blades that have a turbo feature which he accidentally triggers. After several failed attempts to slow him down and stop him, they grab onto to him, going downhill really fast and going back in time, and Milo jumps out of the wormhole and tells his overprotective mom not to buy the roller blades, which she doesn't.
• Smart Girl: Tabitha.

• Speech Impediment: Max speaks like Elmer Fudd.
• Thememobile: His big wheel is bird shaped.
• Tsurime Eyes: Lizbeth.
• Token Minority: Lizbeth, Otto, Sanjay and Rutger.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl: Lizbeth (Tomboy) and Ruth Ann (Girly Girl).
• Under the Mistletoe: At the end of the Christmas episode, Milo and Lizbeth hug, but then he sees the mistletoe and runs away. Lizbeth runs after him giggling.
• Vocal Evolution: Kirsten sounded normal and plain in the first couple of episodes. She now sounds higher pitched for the rest of the series.
• Weaksauce Weakness: Milo's is sausage Pizza. In the Warrior Monkey's case, catchy music.
• Will They or Won't They??: Milo and Lizbeth.
• What Could Have Been: In the demo seen here, Milo's last name would've been Howell, which got passed on to his cousin Wendell. He would also have had glasses and blue hair, and his superhero outfit was completely different, including wearing a flamingo on top of his head instead of him having it being his helmet. Other character designs were also different, and he would also face a teenager named Tervit.
