Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

Caveat lector![1]

This is a list of recommendations made by Tropers for Fan Fics, sorted by medium and work. Feel free to recommend your favorite fanfics here, as long as the recs follow these simple rules:

  • No Self-Recommendations: These pages are a tool for readers, not an advertising service for authors.
  • Add Individual Fan Fics Using the Template: It can be found below, and on most recommendation pages.

If a work for which you want to make a fanfic recommendation does not already have a recommendation page, just hover your mouse cursor over the "Create New" button at the top of the page, and then click on the "Fanfic Recs" option in the dropdown that appears. An editor will open, prepopulated with all the text and markup for a recommendations page — all you need to do is put your rec under the proper header and save. If for some reason you're not using the automatic boilerplating, you can also find the template here.

Bear in mind that recommendations are subjective, so if you want to question or discuss any given recommendation you should do so on the appropriate discussion page. If you want people to read the fanfic you're recommending, you should put some effort into writing the description. Sell us the fanfic, but don't inflate it; we're striving for some quality stories here, so if you have difficulties with making it look interesting, maybe it wasn't that good in the first place.

In addition, you will notice that the tropers have signed their recommendations. Somebody has to vouch for them, so if a given recommendation isn't backed up by anybody, it will be zapped. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Reviews of fics are encouraged, but if you choose to write one, please make it substantive, and give specific details about what you liked or disliked in the fic. If you want to give a fic a thumbs-up without writing a full review, you can add your troper handle to the Recommended by line.

Crossover fics between two fictions should be listed twice, once under each fiction's page. Crossover fics between three or more should be listed once under Mega Crossover.

Below is the required format for a recommendation. If you're making a new page, or adding to an existing one, copy that text into the page. Please don't use the old format, those are being gradually converted to this one.

Title of the Fanfic by Author OR Fic Trope Page, by Author (Link)

  • Recommended by: Troper Name[2]
  • Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
  • Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.
  • Tags: If any are known. This would be things like WAFF, Lemon, Dark Fic, any Trigger Warnings, etc. This is also where you would put character names with Characterization Tags if doing so would be equally indicative. ("uber!Harry" for Harry Potter, for instance.)
  • Comments: If you want to say something more about why you're recommending the fic, but please, keep it brief. We don't want Conversation in the Main Page.

If you want to read articles for other fanfics of varying quality, go to Fan Fics (Fanfic).

  1. Let the reader beware!
  2. Reminder - if you want to recommend the fic but not write a review, add your Troper name to this line after the original name
