- 2×4 Technology: What most of their equipment is made of.
- Badass Adorable

- Numbuhs 1, 2 and 4 are a triumvirate version of this.
- As for the girls, Numbuhs 3 and 5.

- You Are Numbuh Six
Numbuh 1[]
Numbuh One / Nigel Uno
"Kids Next Door, battle stations!" |
The leader of Sector V, an overworking agent who loves every minute of his job. He is widely considered one of the best of the best. However, his paranoia and stubbornness have gotten in the way of doing his job effectively at times. He is voiced by Benjamin Diskin.
- The Ace: Hell yes, to the point he surpasses legendary ace Chad (who is not happy about this) and gets promoted to join the prestigious Galactic Kids Next Door.
- Adorably Precocious Child: Tries too hard to not act his age.
- Adorkable: Very much so, due to his No Social Skills.
- Agent Mulder
- All Love Is Unrequited: Not "love" per se, but Operation: FOUNTAIN heavily implies he has/had a crush on Numbuh Three, and everybody knows who she's in love with.
- Always Someone Better: The reason for Chad's downfall is because of him being this.
- Authority Equals Asskicking
- Bald of Awesome
- Berserk Button: Has at least three: being charged at a restaurant, messing with his teammates, and too much stupidity and loonacy for him to tolerate.
- But Now I Must Go: He does come back, though.
- Cain and Abel: The Abel to the Delightful Children's Cain. Except not quite, given they're not really his cousins.
- Captain Picard
- Chick Magnet: He has quite the suitors, with Lizzie, Rachel/Numbuh 362 and even his own tree house all over him.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Not to the same level as Numbuh Three, but let's just say a lifetime of being fully dedicated to his job has made him a paranoid weirdo (granted, most of the time he's right, but still).
- Cool Shades
- The Comically Serious: Part of his charm and hilarity is his tendency to take extremely seriously even the most menial of tasks, be it due to his Properly Paranoid personality or his clear lack of social skills.
- Conspiracy Theorist
- Crack Defeat: "Operation: E.L.E.C.T.I.O.N.S."
- Deadpan Snarker
- Dork Knight
- Duty First, Love Second: In "Operation: G.I.R.L.F.R.I.E.N.D.", his relationship with Lizzie ends due to this.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Not as bad as Numbuh Four, however, and is usually justified given he tends to be surrounded by the weirdness and idiocy of the world he lives in.
- Henpecked Husband: Preteen version. He usually tends to comply to his girlfriend Lizzie's demands, no matter how much he dislikes them (then again, Lizzie is quite the Clingy Jealous Girl)
- The Hero
- Hero Worshipper: He admires Numbuh Zero, the greatest hero in KND history. Up to Eleven when he discovers Numbuh Zero is his dad.
- Heroic BSOD: Gets this after the Delightful Children turn him into an adult until Numbuh Five gives him a Rousing Speech to get him back.
- Informed Flaw: According to everyone else in the show, his butt is so huge it's the kind of badonkadonk spoken only in legend. This is Played for Laughs, of course.
- Innocently Insensitive: Sometimes.
- Insulted Awake: Several times.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Less on the "Jerk" part than Numbuh Four, but he still fits, as Numbuh 362 states at one point. He's reckless, stubborn, hot-tempered and can come across as aloof and insensitive due to his No Social Skills and extreme devotion to his job. Nevertheless, he's still a good person who is fully devoted to justice and always, always puts his friends above himself.
- Kissing Under the Influence: In "Operation: L.I.Z.Z.I.E.".
- Living Emotional Crutch: To Numbuh Four, as evident when he's completely devastated when Numbuh One leaves to join the Galactic Kids Next Door.
- Married to the Job: He's definitely obsessed with his job in the KND. This is deconstructed, as his relationship with Lizzie ended because of this.
- Meaningful Name: Nigel Uno—Uno is Spanish for "one".
- Mr. Vice Guy
- No Social Skills: He's a very capable, badass team leader, but he seriously sucks at normal interactions, be with his friends or family. This has shown to bite him in the butt on a few occassions.
- Noble Male, Roguish Male: The noble to Numbuh Four's roguish.
- Noodle Incident: The Delightful Children are responsible for him losing his hair. Exactly how we never learn.
- Not So Above It All: See Cloudcuckoolander above.
- Officer and a Gentleman
- Official Couple: With Lizzie, though she breaks up with him near the end of the series in "Operation: G.I.R.L.F.R.I.E.N.D.", after realizing that his loyalty to the KND will always come first.
- Only Child Syndrome: Nigel is the only Sector V member who doesn't have any brothers or sisters.
- Opposites Attract: With Lizzie. Unlike his friends, however, this is deconstructed as their differences prove too much for the relationship to survive.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: As Billy in The Grim Adventures of the KND. Also, another episode says he fooled the Toiletnator with a T-shirt that said "I am not Numbuh 1".
- Platonic Life Partners: With Numbuh Five. They're very close partners, yet they haven't shown any romantic interest in each other (contrary to what shippers say).
- Playful Otter: Gets turned into one in "Operation: G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S.".
- Prematurely Bald: Thanks to the Delightful Children.
- Properly Paranoid: While his theories are somewhat plausible in his world, they're so convoluted that it's easy to see where he's stretching it.
- Real Men Wear Pink: He likes Rainbow Monkeys, as seen by his underwear.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Numbuh Five's blue.
- Ship Tease: Despite his relationship with Lizzie, he has quite the tease with Rachel/Numbuh 362.
- The Stoic: He tries to be this when on the job, though he's much closer to Not So Stoic.
- Sugar and Ice Personality: He tends to come across as overly serious, no-nonsense and aloof; but he's really a very kind person fully committed to justice and heroism.
- Sunglasses at Night
- Team Dad
- What Does He See in Her?: Why the hell he is dating someone like Lizzie is lost on everyone, both In-Universe and out. When they broke up, this didn't come as much of a surprise (rather, the surprise was that Lizzie was the one who broke up the relationship)
- Wise Beyond His Years
- Workaholic: Good lord. His friends had to literally drag him out of the treehouse to get him to the beach and relax (which he outright hates).
Numbuh 2[]
Numbuh Two / Hogarth "Hoagie" P. Gilligan Jr.
"Come to Numbuh Two!" |
The team's technology expert who loves cracking bad jokes. As Sector V's technology officer, he designs many of the 2×4 technology the team uses In his off time he enjoys building and flying airplanes and solving mysteries at his school. Voiced by Benjamin Diskin.
- Adorably Precocious Child: Of the Adorkable type.
- Ace Pilot
- Aloof Big Brother: Towards his little brother, Tommy, though he's still very protective of him.
- Big Eater
- The Big Guy
- Big Guy, Little Guy: The big to Numbah Four's little.
- Brains and Brawn: Brains to Numbah Four's Brawn.
- Bungling Inventor
- Bunny Ears Lawyer: Despite all his eccentricities, he's an awesome pilot and techie.
- Beware the Nice Ones/Beware the Silly Ones
- Casanova Wannabe: Hinted at, given his crush on Cree and him flirting with two teenage girls. He does manage to attract Numbuh Five, though.
- Compressed Vice: His chocolate sauce addiction.
- Cowardly Lion: He tends to get scared easily, yet this doesn't prevent him from getting things done by the end.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- Disappeared Dad: Numbuh Two's dad, Hoagie P. Gilligan, Sr., hasn't been seen at all throughout the series.
- Dogged Nice Guy: To Cree. He moves on to Abby.
- Dork Knight
- Expressive Flight Goggles
- Extreme Omnivore: Though he will draw the line at eating Lizzie's food.
- G-Rated Drug: Chocolate syrup in the past, he even went to AA meetings for them.
- Gadgeteer Genius
- Genius Ditz
- Goggles Do Nothing: Zigzagged. He works with high speed equipment so it would help with wind resistance, but generally just has them on most of the time for no reason either.
- Happily Married: To Numbuh 5 of all people as adults.
- He's All Grown Up: Teen!Hoagie is pretty cute (not to mention much thinner), and even manages to catch Cree's attention.
- Improbable Piloting Skills
- Loving a Shadow: His crush on Cree is pretty superficial, given he focuses on her beautiful appearance rather than her unpleasant personality. It's implied his crush was based on his own implicit feelings for his teammate and Cree's sister, Numbuh Five.
- Meaningful Name: Hoagie P. Gilligan Jr., appropriately enough, a twofer reference. First, there's "Gilligan," a reference to the title character of Gilligan's Island, who was also second-in-command on the S.S. Minnow. Then there's the "Jr.", often used at the end of a boy's name to signify that he's the second male in the family to have inherited his father's name (a seemingly throwaway detail that actually foreshadows the importance of his Disappeared Dad, Hoagie P. Gilligan, Sr.)
- Must Make Her Laugh: Many of his awful puns are done to make Numbuh Five laugh (which annoys her most of the time). This is the main hint of his feelings for her.
- Nice Guy: He does have flaws, but he's still a very friendly and cheerful guy, and is the only one who lacks the Anti-Hero attributes the others have.
- Nice Hat
- Odd Friendship: With Numbuh Four.
- Official Couple: With Numbuh Five.
- Opposites Attract: With Numbuh Five.
- Private Detective: His side job, in full-on, trenchcoat-clad Film Noir mode.
- Pungeon Master: What he thinks he is.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Numbah Four's red.
- Salt and Pepper: With Numbuh Five.
- Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The sensitive to both Numbuhs One and Four.
- Ship Tease: With Numbuh Five.
- Small Name, Big Ego: A mild, sympathetic example. He's competent, but tends to overestimate his own abilities. To say nothing of his pungeon skills...
- Tranquil Fury: Whenever he gets serious, and it's not a pretty sight.
- Turn in Your Badge: He was once on Safety Patrol, but his reasons for leaving the force are unknown.
Numbuh 3[]
Numbuh Three / Kuki Sanban
"What do you think I am, an airhead or something?" |
The team's medic, and the most feminine of the kids, a happy-go-lucky girl who loves Rainbow Monkeys. In battle, she specializes in diversionary tactics. She seems to have a lot of admirers, but her heart obviously belongs to a certain Aussie. Voiced by Lauren Tom.
- Action Girl
- Ascended Fangirl: She becomes CEO of the Rainbow Monkeys Corporation when she grows up.
- Asian Airhead: Type Two.
- Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Numbuh Four.
- Berserk Button: Do not insult the Rainbow Monkeys in front of her. Don't even mess with her plushies, her friends or Bradley either.
- Beware the Nice Ones/Beware the Silly Ones: Hoo boy...
- Breakout Character: By far the most popular character in the series.
- Cain and Abel: The Abel to Mushi's Cain.
- The Chick
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Clueless Dude Magnet: Numbuh Four aside, she's caught the attention of several other boys.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- Cute and Psycho: At her most frightening.
- Cute Bruiser
- Cuteness Proximity
- Demon Head: When she gets angry.
- The Ditz
- Dork Knight
- Everyone Can See It: With Numbuh Four.
- Eyes Always Shut: Not always, though.
- Flanderization: Her love for Rainbow Monkeys grew to ridiculous proportions as the series went on. So much so, it even saved the universe at one point.
- Friend to All Living Things
- Genki Girl: Played very straight. Ironically, her mom is named "Genki", but she doesn't fit the trope at all.
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Her room doesn't really have anything else.
- Happily Married: To Numbuh 4 in future, not that anyone was surprised.
- I Have You Now, My Pretty: A recurring plot with King Sandy.
- Idiot Hero
- Kawaiiko
- Little Miss Badass
- Living Emotional Crutch: To Numbuh Four.
- Loose Lips
- Mama Bear: Do not mess with the hamsters or Bradley.
- Meaningful Name: Kuki Sanban — "Sanban" is Japanese for "third"; Kuki is a misspelling of "kooky" (meaning crazy or off-kilter) and refers to her ditzy, Cloudcuckoolander personality.
- The Medic
- Morality Pet: She tends to bring out the best in people.
- Nice Girl
- Obfuscating Stupidity: Has shown hints of this, especially regarding her relationship with Numbuh Four.
- Official Couple: With Numbuh Four, so obvious a spoiler tag isn't even needed.
- The Pollyanna
- Ridiculously Successful Future Self/Hidden Depths: The Cloudcuckoolander grows up to become the CEO of the Rainbow Monkey Corporation.
- Running Gag: Trying to use the Hippity Hop mecha in battle never ends well.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Contrasting with her Dude Magnet status, she hasn't shown interest in anyone not named "Numbuh Four".
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She tends to get upset at Numbuh Four whenever he acts like a Jerkass, yet whenever he shows his softer side, she's all over him, often literally.
- Spoiled Sweet: She's frequently shown to be pretty spoiled (especially regarding Rainbow Monkeys), but she's as sweet as they come.
- Stepford Smiler: Her cheerful personality (or at least part of it) is revealed to be a mask to keep her from falling into depression. Considering her Dysfunctional Family, it's hard to be surprised.
- Team Mom: To any animals she comes across, and sometimes to her friends.
- Tender Tears
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Girly Girl to Numbah Five's Tomboy.
- Turns Out Like Her Mother: While its live action, her dress and mannerisms as an adult are the spitting image of her mother.
- Tsundere: Kuki is a Type B (deredere). She's very sweet and cute, but has one hell of a temper and frequent mood swings, tending to switch between lovey-dovey to arguing when dealing with Numbuh Four.
- Unstoppable Rage: When she goes into Demon Mode.
- Uptown Girl: Downplayed. Her family is upper-middle class, while Numbuh Four's family is lower-middle class.
- We Need a Distraction: Specializes in this when not being The Medic.
- Wide-Eyed Idealist
- Will They or Won't They?: With Numbuh Four, a lot. They do by the end of the series.
- Woman Scorned: Whenever Numbuh Four acts like a Jerkass (intentionally or not), expect this trope to happen.
Numbuh 4[]
Numbuh Four / Wallabee "Wally" Beatles
"Right, first I'll be cleaning your adult-lovin' prissy little clocks..." |
The team's combat specialist. He's incredibly lacking in book smarts, but his combat prowess more than makes up for it. In his off time, he competes in adult disapproved sports. Despite his dislike for girly things, he very obviously has a crush on the very feminine Numbuh Three. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Anti-Hero: Type II or III.
- Badbutt
- Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Numbuh Three.
- Berserk Button: You will not harm his baby brother or Numbuh Three in his presence. Also, don't make fun of his height or call him an idiot either.
- Big Guy, Little Guy: The little to Numbah Two's big.
- Blinding Bangs
- Blood Knight
- Boisterous Bruiser
- Book Dumb: And proudly so, though the Distant Finale reveals that he's earned multiple doctorates as an adult.
- Brains and Brawn: Brawn to Numbuh Two's Brains.
- Bratty Half-Pint: At his worst.
- Break the Haughty: Whenever he goes too far.
- Breakout Character: Alongside Numbuh 3, he's by far the most recognizable and popular character in the series.
- Butt Monkey
- Cannot Spit It Out: His feelings towards Numbuh Three.
- Crazy Jealous Guy: Towards Numbuh Three.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
- Cry Cute: Whenever he gets upset, which is surprisingly often.
- Cute Bruiser: Even more so than Numbuh 3, as he also appears to have Super Strength.
- Drunk with Power: Became this after assuming team leader in "Operation: C.A.N.N.O.N"
- Everyone Can See It: With Numbuh Three.
- Four Is Death: As the aforementioned team's resident Blood Knight, he is the one who ends up in combat a lot. He tends to be the unluckiest member of the group, yet has his happy moments. In perspective, he is the only member of the KND to not suffer a Gender Bender (and manages to be the only male by the end of Operation F.U.T.U.R.E.) as well as marrying the girl of his dreams.
- Fragile Flower: He puts up a tough front, but he's actually very sensitive and cries quite easily, as seen in episodes like "B.U.T.T.", "S.A.F.E.T.Y." and "F.E.R.A.L.".
- Good Is Not Nice: While a member of the KND, he can still be a bully befitting his age.
- Gosh Darn It to Heck: His constant use of the word "Crud".
- Happily Married: To Numbuh 3 as grown ups.
- Hair of Gold
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Has a fuse as short as his height... and don't tell him that either.
- Hero Worshipper: To Numbuh One.
- Idiot Hero
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: Frequently implied. He tries to act tough at all costs, but he's shown to be very sensitive to others' judgements and quick to jump into danger to prove himself (often with disastrous results). This is pretty evident with his crush on Numbuh Three: He acts like he doesn't care about her (or love in general), but turns into an insecure mess whenever there's any hint she would like other guys. His inability to confess his feelings is more likely to be because he can't believe a sweet girl like Kuki would be interested in someone like him, despite the all-surrounding evidence to the contrary.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Do not let his crass, rude, short-tempered demeanor fool you, he's still a brave warrior who will do anything for the people he loves, and is just as committed to the KND as the rest of his teammates.
- Meaningful Name: Wallabee Beatles—four members of The Beatles [a.k.a "The Fab Four"]. Also, four is considered an unlucky number in Chinese culture and Wally is the unluckiest member of the group.
- The Lancer
- The Napoleon
- Noble Male, Roguish Male: The roguish to Numbuh One's noble.
- Oblivious to Love: He fails to realize that Numbuh Three only has eyes for him, and is confused when she gets angry for saying love is gross and would never fall in love with anyone (the latter obviously being a lie).
- Odd Friendship: With Numbuh Two.
- Official Couple: With Numbuh Three, obviously.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Numbah Two's blue.
- Ridiculously Successful Future Self/Hidden Depths: The Book Dumb kid grows up to get a medical degree from Harvard.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: To Numbuh Three.
- Single Man Seeks Good Woman: Despite claims to the contrary, it's clear Numbuh Three's kindness and sweetness are why he likes her so much. Especially evident when he shows nothing but disgust at her Jerkass negative counterpart.
- Super Drowning Skills: Can't swim, at least before "Operation: P.O.O.L.".
- Why Did it Have to be Blood?: He's known to be hemophobic. He also dislikes water.
- Will They or Won't They?: With Numbuh Three. They get married in the end.
- The Worf Effect: First to charge in, often the first to go down.
Numbuh 5[]
Numbuh Five / Abigail "Abby" Lincoln
"I like it when things are too easy." |
The team's second-in-command, she's the one that keeps a level head under all circumstances, even when everyone else loses it. In her spare time, she's a candy hunter, which brings her in conflict with her rival Heinrich and candy pirate Stickybeard. Voiced by Cree Summer.
- Action Girl: Especially when up against Cree.
- Agent Scully: Is usually skeptical toward Nigel's conspiracy theories and will often be wrong.
- Berserk Button: Her calm demeanor goes out of the window whenever Numbuh Two makes one of his awful puns (or just being stupid in general), prompting her to hit him with her hat in response. Though it's implied part of it is a front to hide her feelings for him, considering she makes bad puns herself whenever he isn't present.
- She also gets very annoyed whenever Numbuh Two shows interest in other girls.
- Betty and Veronica: The Betty to her sister's Veronica for Hoagie's Archie. She wins by a landslide.
- Bifauxnen: Dressed up in a suit once for a dance.
- Braids of Action
- Broken Bird: A mild, preteen version. Given her traitorous evil sister, a haunting failure regarding Numbuh One, and her business with Heinrich; it's no surprise she has turned into such a Deadpan Snarker at her age.
- But Not Too Foreign: She's half-French, even though both of her parents are black. Though it's likely her mom was raised in France.
- Cain and Abel: The Abel to Cree's Cain.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Towards Numbuh Two, as seen in "Operation: C.O.U.C.H", "Operation: U.N.C.O.O.L" and "Operation: P.A.R.T.Y.", among others.
- Cool Big Sis: She acts like this towards her teammates and little kids.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Girl of Adventure: When she's candy hunting.
- Happily Married: To Numbuh Two in the future.
- Heroic Sacrifice: In "Operation: Z.E.R.O.".
- Hidden Depths: Only Sane Man + Positive Discrimination + My Greatest Failure + My Greatest Second Chance
- Hypocrite: A part of her Not So Above It All schtick. Cases in point:
- She endlessly criticizes Numbuh Two's puns, yet she makes bad puns herself when alone. This may be justified due to her being a Tsundere towards Hoagie.
- Related to the above, she enjoys mocking Numbuh Four for being a Crazy Jealous Guy towards Numbuh Three, yet she proves to be a Clingy Jealous Girl regarding Numbuh Two.
- Little Miss Badass: One of the most action-prone girls in the show.
- Little Miss Snarker
- Meaningful Name: Abigail Lincoln—has the same initials and last name as U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (A.L.), whose face is on the five dollar bill in American currency.
- Mini-Dress of Power
- My Greatest Failure: Her not being able to save Numbuh One from the Delightful Children, leading to him being bald. She gets a second chance when she rescues another person from them.
- My Significance Sense Is Tingling:
Numbuh Five: Something just happened. It's as if million of gallons of ice cream just... disappeared. |
- Nice Hat: Doubles as a Memento MacGuffin.
- Noodle Incident: It's mentioned in passing in one episode that Numbuh Five was once leader of Sector V. She stepped down from the position after some incident, but we never find out. Other bits point that she couldn't take the stress of full on leadership. She nearly has a panic attack when Nigel reinstates her as leader before he leaves for his galactic mission. He reassures her she always had what it took to lead the group. Considering she would later take over the role of commanding the entire K.N.D, he wasn't kidding.
- Not So Above It All: During a mission, Numbuh 4 stops to take some candies. Later, she tries to do the same.
- She's also very adamant in teasing Numbuh Four about his crush on Numbuh Three.
- Official Couple: With Numbuh Two.
- Opposites Attract: With Numbuh Two.
- Only Sane Employee: To Numbuh One.
- Only Sane Girl: Though she can turn Not So Above It All.
- Platonic Life Partners: With Numbuh One.
- Positive Discrimination: The black girl is the coolest, the sanest, and quite often the smartest of the gang. Doesn't mean she doesn't have emotional baggage, though.
- The Quiet One
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Numbah One's red.
- Salt and Pepper: Pepper to Numbah Two's Salt.
- Sassy Black Girl
- Ship Tease: With Numbuh Two.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: As her interest in Maurice and Numbuh Two can attest.
- The Smart Girl
- Sugar and Ice Personality
- Sweet Tooth: All the kids are, but only Numbuh Five would risk her life in search of legendary sweets.
- Team Mom
- Third Person Person: Not always, but very, very often.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Tomboy to Numbah Three's Girly Girl. Subverted by their usual manner of dress: Kuki wears a sweater and sneakers, while Abby usually goes around in a minidress, white Mary Janes, and earrings.
- Tranquil Fury: Except in notable occassions, her anger tends to manifest as this.
- Tsundere: Usually, she's a calm, collected girl, but tends to turn into a harsh example with the people she loves the most, as seen with her sister Cree and especially Numbuh Two.
- Twofer Token Minority: French and African.
- Wise Beyond Her Years
Other KND Operatives[]
Numbuh 6[]
Numbuh Six / Bradley
A skunk that Numbuhs Two and Three took under their wing since "Operation: C.A.M.P.". After foiling Chester's plan of making a work camp out of an actual kid's camp, he is inducted into the Kids Next Door as an honorary member. After getting critically injured by Cree, Numbuh Two upgrades him into half-skunk, half-robot R.O.B.O.-B.R.A.D.L.E.Y. in "Operation: H.O.S.P.I.T.A.L.". He is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Badass Adorable: Especially as Robo-Bradley.
- Cool Pet
- Cyborg
- The Danza
- Killer Rabbit
- Ridiculously Cute Critter
- Smelly Skunk
- Team Pet
- You Are Number Six: Literally.
Numbuh 60[]
Numbuh Sixty / Patton Drilovsky
"Numbuh Sixty reporting for duty!" |
The boy in charge of training new recruits at Kids Next Door Artic Base, he cuts no slack with new recruits. He is voiced by Matt Levin.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty
- Meaningful Name: Patton refers to the famous World War II general. The last name is obvious.
- Large Ham: if the following quote is any indication:
- Numbuh 60: "To the MOOOOOOOON!"
Numbuh 65.3[]
Numbuh Sixty Five Point Three / Herbie
"Sir, I needed those official orders signed seventy two point zero berger seconds ago" |
A Kids Next Door desk operative who frequently delivers mission specs to Sector V. He works on the Moon Base. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Numbuh 74.329[]
Numbuh Seventy Four Point Three Two Nine
"If you honor what your friends are fighting for, you'll make that sacrifice." |
A high-ranking Kids Next Door scientist. His technology is what keeps the KND running. Voiced by Dave Wittenberg.
- Mad Scientist
- The Man Behind the Man: Part of the "splinter cell".
- Teleporters and Transporters
- TV Genius
Numbuh 86[]
Numbuh Eighty Six / Fanny Fulbright
"Of all the stupid things in the stupid world of stupid people acting stupid, you boys are the stupidliest! It's like you're trying to win a stupid contest but you're too stupid to take a stupidity test!" |
The former Head of Decommissioning and current Global Tactics Officer. She's a shrill girl with a particular intolerance for the male sex. But due to her behavior, she has next to no friends. Voiced by Jennifer Hale.
- Action Girl
- Alpha Bitch: A military version. A bit of a Deconstruction in that she's not well-liked at all.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: After being betrayed by her friend Numbuh 12 and left devastated over it, Numbuh Three agrees to be her friend when nobody else would. As a result, she treats her far more nicely than she usually does (it helps they both adore Rainbow Monkeys)
- Berserk Button: Saying anything anti-feminist around her is a big No-No.
- Also, don't ever call her "Toots", as Numbuh 2 learned the hard way in "Operation: P.I.N.K.-E.Y.E."
- Break the Haughty
- Daddy's Little Villain: Subverted. She's Mr. Boss' (who leads the bad guys) daughter, but she in turn is still one of the good guys' leaders. Does explain a lot though.
- Does Not Like Men: AND HOW!
- Fiery Redhead: Bordering on Evil Redhead at worst.
- Freudian Excuse: She's not a villain, but having a villainous father like Mr. Boss clearly explains a lot of her attitude. It's heavily implied her hatred of boys stems from a Noodle Incident in her past.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: As the unpleasant decommissioning officer, nearly everyone hates her guts.
- Good Is Not Nice
- Hate Sink: In-Universe, nearly everyone who knows her hates her guts, and justifiably so. Not so much out of universe, at least after her Character Development.
- Jerkass: Later went from Straw Feminist to just plain jerk to everyone. She becomes a Jerk with a Heart of Gold later on, though.
- Little Miss Badass
- Meaningful Name: Well, meaningful Numbuh, when you look at her rank: to be "eighty-sixed" is American slang for being thrown out, eliminated, or rejected (it's also used in restaurant lingo to mean that a menu item has run out and is no longer available)
- The Medic: A flashback to Numbuh Five's second Mission shows 86 wearing hat with a cross and checking on the injured. How she went from a medic to head of decommissioning is not explained.
- Morality Pet: Oddly enough, she fulfills this role to her father, Mr. Boss. A lot of his Pet the Dog moments are reserved for her.
- Never My Fault: Her introduction episode in which she never takes responsibility for her own blunders which wound up hampering Sector V's efforts for the mission. Thank karma kicked in when the spy she thought she she capture was actually an undercover agent (Number 362 in fact up) whose mission was ruined by 86 and get harshly chewed out for it (for added irony through out most of the episode she was putting down the boys in the group the most for any minor screw ups. End of the episode saw a girl doing this to her.)
- Noodle Incident: According to a canon comic, whatever made her hate boys happened after she became an operative.
- Slap Slap Kiss: With Numbuh Ninteenth Century.
- Straw Feminist: Later became less of this and more flat-out unfriendly to everyone (which, oddly enough, was a step up for her)
- Too Dumb to Live: She's really dedicated to her job so much so that it blinds her to the most obvious points of logic, such as in Operation E.N.D when she sent to capture and decommission Sector V based on the fact the computer says their turning 13. Numbuh One points out they're in the same age group, she and he even went to kindergardern together. But nope! If the databanks says their teens it must be true! No point in questioning it.
- Tsundere: A G-rated Asuka, really.
- Unexplained Accent: If she's the daughter of Mr. Boss, where does her Irish accent come from? Apparently her mother, as revealed during her first slumber party (ever).
Numbuh 362[]
Numbuh Three Sixty Two / Rachel T. McKenzie
"As Kids Next Door Soopreme Leader, I hearby order you to... go long!" |
Originally the top spy in the KND, she is now its current Soopreme Leader. Due to her busy and demanding job, she's often stressed, but at heart she stands stubbornly for the rights of kids everywhere, and if the situation arises she can be fun-loving too. Has grown to form a close friendship (and perhaps more) with Nigel Uno. Voiced by Rachael MacFarlane.
- Action Girl
- All Love Is Unrequited: Despite her feelings for Nigel becoming more obvious as the series progresses, Nigel is already in a relationship with Lizzie. Even after they broke up, Nigel soon left to the GKND, leaving their relationship status unclear.
- Ascended Extra: She was only in one episode in season 2 and was never seen again until after Chad betrayed the team.
- Authority Equals Asskicking: As shown in "Operation: I.T." and "Operation: Z.E.R.O."
- Betty and Veronica: Technically, she's the Veronica when compared to Nigel's girlfriend Lizzie. In terms of personality, though, she's more of a Betty.
- Big Good
- Brown Eyes: Her eyes sometimes appear brown.
- The Chains of Commanding: What kick-starts "Operation: I.T.".
- Dogged Nice Girl: Implied in regards to Numbuh One.
- Hair of Gold
- Hey, It's That Voice!/The Danza: Numbuh 362 is Seth MacFarlane's Real Life sister (who's usually cast in one of his many shows: Rachael was Olivia the child star on Family Guy and Hayley Smith on American Dad).
- Idiot Ball
- "The Grim Adventures of the KND" for Rule of Funny.
- "Operation: Z.E.R.O." too, when the KND museum was under attack. Sector V was the closest. She ordered them to come back to the base which was also under attack but Nigel refuses till the museum was safe. Once Sector V did that as well as save the base single-handily, she chews out Nigel for disobeying orders. She does apologize later though once Grandfather is defeated, admitting if she had listened to him before the whole mess would've never happened.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: In "Operation: I.T.". To be fair, in her world being normal means spending all day doing whatever you want in a giant treehouse and going on exciting missions.
- Little Miss Badass
- Meaningful Name: She's two numbers off from 360, a full circle. As in the KND revolves completely around her.
- Mundane Made Awesome: Defeats Father by eating through a wall of broccoli. Though to be fair, broccoli does seem to be some kind of universal kryptonite in the show.
- Nice Hat
- Nice Girl
- Reasonable Authority Figure
- Ship Tease: With Numbuh One.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With her younger brother, Harvey/Numbuh 363. She's calm, competent, reasonable and generally pleasant; while he's a complete jerk with a short fuse and is far more incompetent than he thinks.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Her crush on Numbuh One.
- Team Mom
- Wise Beyond Her Years
Numbuh 363[]
Numbuh Three Sixty Three / Harvey McKenzie
He's Numbuh 362's younger brother and leader of Sector W. Unfortunately, he's not nearly as nice as his sister. Not even close.
- 0% Approval Rating: His sister is literally the only person who can tolerate his existence. The same goes for the audience.
- Bad Boss
- Berserk Button: Do not touch him. Ever.
- Bratty Half-Pint: Big time.
- Dirty Coward
- Hates Being Touched: His number one weak spot.
- Hate Sink: He's a selfish, ungrateful brat who treats his own sector and everyone around him like shit. He's such a special kind of prick he makes even the most hated characters in the show seem like absolute saints in comparison. Tellingly, he has absolutely no fans In-Universe and out, with only his sister being able to tolerate his presence.
- Humiliation Conga: At the end of the finale, and deservingly so.
- It's All About Me
- Jerkass: So much so, he makes Grandfather look pleasant by comparison.
- Screw the Rules, I Have Connections: He thinks being the Soopreme Leader's younger brother means he can get away with anything he does, no matter how dickish or horrible, to the point Numbuhs One and Four had to be restrained because of this. Thank God he gets proven wrong soon after.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With his sister.
Villains[]
Father[]
Father /Benedict Uno
"Bravo, Mr. Uno. You managed to skillfully outwit a bunch of children. The question is, do you have what it takes to play with the big boys?" |
The mysterious head villain, Father is a man who wears a suit of shadows and is skilled in very dark powers. He schemes to enslave all children and turn them into his twisted version of "delightful". But despite his dark and malicious appearance, sometimes all he wants to do is curl up in a bathrobe with some Rocky Road. He is voiced by Maurice LaMarche.
- Affably Evil: To the point of being Adorkable at his goofiest.
- Alas, Poor Villain: Despite how evil he has been, it's hard not to feel bad for him when Grandfather treats him like shit, especially considering he's the reason why he turned evil in the first place.
- Arch Enemy: To the Kids Next Door in general and Numbuh One in particular.
- Awesome McCoolname: You've gotta admit, Benedict Uno has a nice ring to it.
- Berserk Button: If you value your life, don't steal his pipe. Ever.
- Big Bad: Alternates with Mr. Boss depending on the focus.
- Break the Haughty
- Broken Bird: A villainous example.
- Burning with Anger: Not just Wreathed in Flames, but they increase in intensity when angry.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Numbuh Zero's Abel. In a subversion, they never fight each other.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Child-Hater
- Clothes Make the Superman: Probably a power inherited from Grandfather (it's never really explained), but the shadow look is actually cover giving him his powers and intimidating nature. The one time its taken off, we see the real Father (and he's surprisingly nerdy-looking.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Kinda becomes this through Villain Decay.
- Diabolical Mastermind
- Dirty Coward: More as a kid, but as an adult he still shows shades of this. It's the reason why is the unfavourite to his father.
- Disproportionate Retribution: In the finale, he wants to kill Numbuh One for stealing his pipe.
- Enemy Mine: With the KND in "Operation: Z.E.R.O." He wimps out when he loses the motivation.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He has screwed-up relationships with his dad, his nephew and his not really children, but the only person he seems to genuinely care for is his older brother, Numbuh Zero, despite his jealousy over him being the favorite. This makes sense, as his brother is pretty much the only person who has shown genuine love and respect towards him, as opposed to the above three.
- Evil Is Burning Hot: Is it ever.
- Evil Uncle: To Nigel.
- Fatal Flaw: He would be a much more formidable villain if not for his self-loathing and cowardice. When these go out for a moment, he proves to be even more powerful than Grandfather.
- Freudian Excuse: Grandfather makes him look like a saint, and the reason he refused to help fight him wasn't out of evil, but out of pure fear. Grandfather also liked his brother better than him and treated him like crap. We also see Father break down and curl up on the floor when threatened to be forcefed broccoli because Grandfather did it to him in such a way he was traumatized for life!
- Glowing Eyes of Doom
- Green-Eyed Monster: Towards his older brother, Numbuh Zero. With good reason.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Through Flanderization.
- Hates Being Touched
- Humanoid Abomination: Can be seen as this.
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: The reason for his gleeful villainy is to compensate for the many, many insecurities he carries over due to him being abused by his evil father. This is shown explicitly in The Movie.
- Luke, I Am Your Father: In The Movie, he reveals he's Numbuh One's uncle.
- Large Ham: You can tell Maurice LaMarche is having way too much fun with this role.
- The Man Behind the Man: In the earlier episodes, the Delightful Children were the main villains, though he was actually mentioned in the first episode. In "Operation: C.A.N.N.O.N." the Delightfuls mention a curfew alert stating that they had to leave their butt whupping on Sector V or else Father would be angry.
- Meaningful Name: His real name comes from real life figure Benedict Arnold who was best known as a traitor to the U.S during the Revolutionary War. As shown in the movie, when given the chance to fight against Grandfather alongside Numbuh Zero, he was too scared to do so and exits, not once but twice.
- Moral Myopia: Has experienced child abuse from his father, yet is perfectly fine with bullying kids during his grown up years. Fitting for a Troubled Abuser.
- Name's the Same: No, he's not the Big Bad from Fullmetal Alchemist, although their roles in their respective series are surprisingly similar.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: His voice is a parody of Kirk Douglas, which LaMarche previously used on Animaniacs.
- One-Winged Angel/Scaled Up: In "Operation: I.N.T.E.R.V.I.E.W.S.", he turns into a dragon. Somehow.
- Playing with Fire: Gets it from his dad.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Numbuh Zero.
- Sinister Silhouettes
- Stepford Smiler/Tsunshun: He may act all happy and aggressive most of the time, but ZERO makes it explicitly clear he's not nearly as happy as he presents himself.
- Tragic Villain: He has suffered horrendous Parental Abuse at the hands of his more evil father (who still doesn't have any respect towards him). At the end of the day, behind his evil exterior, he's actually a sad, miserable man who tries to make others miserable to feel better about himself.
- The Unfavourite: He's this to Grandfather, being treated like absolute shit while he sings his praises towards his older brother, Numbuh Zero (who is a hero, by the way).
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid
- Vile Villain Saccharine Show: At least at first.
- Villains Out Shopping
- Xanatos Gambit
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: To his father, Grandfather. Deconstructed in that his need for approval has done more harm than good, and one gets the impression that, if he just realized his father isn't someone to admire, he would be in a much better place than now.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds
The Delightful Children from Down the Lane[]
The Delightful Children from Down the Lane / Sector Z
"Hello Kids Next Door. Perhaps you would like to try kicking our posteriors now?" |
Father's eerie children, supposedly an adult's view of the "perfect" kids. They are educated, well-dressed and polite, but are somewhat uncivilized in their burning hatred for the Kids Next Door. They always appear clustered together, move as one and speak in perfect unison. They are voiced by Benjamin Diskin, Dee Bradley Baker, and Cree Summer.
- Adorably Precocious Child: Bruce (Short blonde kid).
- And I Must Scream: When they're briefly de-brainwashed, Sector Z make it very clear that they are aware of what has been done to them.
- Anti-Hero: Type V.
- Badass: There is a reason that Sector Z is legendary.
- Badass Normal: Sort of, as they, unlike some KND villains, technically have no superpowers.
- Bigger Bads: Seriously does their danger rating of 10 ring any bells?
- Blinding Bangs: David (Tall kid).
- Braces of Orthodontic Overkill: Lenny (top right) has headgear underneath his football helmet.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: They're revealed to be Sector Z in "Operation: Z.E.R.O.".
- Broken Streak: In "Operation: S.I.X." they finally get their birthday cake.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Numbuh 1's Abel. Except not really.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Cereal Vice Reward: The "C.A.K.E.D." missions.
- Chronic Villainy: Literally. They're so brainwashed that any reversing is only temporary.
- The Collector of the Strange: Toenails.
- Creepy Children
- Disney Villain Death: In "Operation: I.N.T.E.R.V.I.E.W.S.".
- The Dragons
- Enemy Mine: With the KND in "Operation: Z.E.R.O.".
- And to a lesser extent "Operation: Z.O.O.".
- Even Evil Has Standards: They sell out Father in "Operation: I.T." because even they don't like broccoli.
- Evil Counterpart: To Sector V.
- Eye Glasses: Constance/Ogie has these.
- Face Heel Turn: They were once KND operatives before being "delightfulized".
- The Faceless / Never Bareheaded: Lenny (top right). Subverted in that he eventually does show his face In "Operation: U.N.D.E.R.C.O.V.E.R.".
- Fallen Heroes
- Famous Last Words: As Sector Z in The Movie: "Tell...The Kids Next Door...That we miss them!"
- Fan Nickname: Ashley and Ogie (The two unnamed girls of the group.)
- Flanderization
- Hates Being Touched
- Hive Mind/I Am Legion: They talk and act as if they are just one person instead of five.
- Jerkass: Despite their image as "perfect children", they're sadistic and cruel to everyone else of their own kind, particularly whenever it's their birthday where they never share their cake with other kids and flaunt it.
- Kids Are Cruel
- Light Blue Eyes Take Warning
- Light Is Not Good
- Mind Control Eyes: Light Blue.
- One-Winged Angel: In "The Grim Adventures of the KND", as the Delightful Reaper.
- The Psycho Rangers: They look eerily similar to sector V.
- Resist the Beast: When the delightfulization begins to return in Z.E.R.O. They failed.
- Sharp Dressed Children
- Shout-Out: They seem to based off of the antagonists in one of the Co-Creator's 1996 KaBlam! Sketch The Off-Beats known as The Populars.
- Stepford Smiler
- Strange Minds Think Alike
- Student Council President: In "Operation: E.L.E.C.T.I.O.N.S.". Lampshaded in "U.N.D.E.R.C.O.V.E.R." by Lenny.
- Tragic Villains: As revealed in the movie.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior
- Villains Out Shopping
Chad Dickson[]
Chad Dickson / formerly Numbuh Two Seventy-Four
"There was no way I was going to turn over everything I ever built, everything I ever worked for, to a bunch of snot-nosed kids!" |
Former Soopreme Leader of the Kids Next Door idolized and loved by all, he turned evil the moment he turned thirteen. He then served as a high-ranking member of the Teen Ninjas, and lost all the respect he had to his name. Generally cocky and approving of himself, both before and after his betrayal. Voiced by Jason Harris.
- Always Second Best: To Nigel, and he's not at all happy about it.
- Becoming the Mask: Sort of. He is actually faking treachery and is a secret teen operative for the KND... however, after many defeats, his hatred for Numbuh One becomes real and he actually tries to kill him in his final appearance in the show.
- Badass Normal
- Berserk Button: Anything that threatens his position as the best KND agent, which turns out to be Nigel himself.
- Big Brother Mentor: Was this when he was still Numbuh 274.
- Blond Guys Are Evil: Or at least huge pricks.
- Broken Ace: Is he ever.
- Broken Pedestal: A brutal one.
- Card-Carrying Villain: Or so it seems.
- Child-Hater
- Driven by Envy: His rivalry with Nigel is essentially fueled by this.
- Evil Is Dumb: After he turns evil, he automatically loses competence. This may be justified by his role as a mole.
- Face Heel Turn: Not really.
- Fallen Hero
- Fake Defector: Revealed in "Operation: T.R.E.A.T.Y.", though, as evidenced by his Villainous Breakdown, he genuinely does have a lot of negative qualities.
- Glory Seeker/Glory Hound
- Good All Along: For a given value of "good", anyway.
- Good Is Not Nice: He was nice when he was Soopreme Commander, but when he showed he was a deep cover agent, his jealousy still made him act like a nasty tool.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: During Nigel's training days, Chad showed him a move that left Nigel flat on his back. In his final battle against Numbuh 1, Nigel uses the same move to beat him.
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: His Fatal Flaw. He has a pathological desire to be the best, and there was a time when he indeed was considered such. Then Nigel had to unintentionally surpass him, and given his self-worth depended on him being the absolute best, this led to him despising Nigel and doing everything he could to reclaim his title as the best warrior in order to prove himself.
- It's All About Me
- Jerkass: The "Dick" in his surname isn't just for show. Even as a Fake Defector, he's still a colossal prick, and arguably gets worse.
- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: In "T.R.E.A.T.Y". He's revealed as a Fake Defector, but he acted so much worse than when he was playing the villain role, outright trying to kill Nigel out of jealousy. It has to be seen to be believed.
- Lamarck Was Right: His parents are Destructo Dad and Mega Mom, and later becomes a more recurring threat than they ever were.
- Not So Different: He has a lot in common with Cree, as seen on this page.
- Pride: He thinks he's still the best there is.
- The Resenter: To Nigel.
- Shadow Archetype: He's this trope to, oddly enough, Wally/Numbuh Four. Both are tough warriors who try to constantly prove themselves to satisfy their own Inferiority Superiority Complexes, and are shown to be jealous of Nigel/Numbuh One due to his talents as a fighter and leader. The difference is that Wally genuinely respects and cherishes his friendship with Nigel and puts his ego aside for his sake, while Chad lets this resentment take over him and puts his own desires over anything else.
- Smug Snake
- Teens Are Monsters
- Took a Level in Jerkass: To the point he could be considered worse than Cree in this regard, which is no small feat.
- Villainous Breakdown: In his last appearance, he gets so jealous of Nigel for being the best Kid Next Door on Earth that he tries to kill him.
- Villainous Crossdresser: In "Operation: S.L.U.M.B.E.R.".
- We Used to Be Friends: With Nigel up to his supposed betrayal. Even with the reveal his defection was fake, his increasing nastiness pretty much ruined any possibility of reconciliation with the two.
Cree Lincoln[]
Cree Lincoln/ formerly Numbuh Eleven
Numbuh Five's older sister and former Kids Next Door operative, skilled, cool and determined. Her relationship with her sister is very strained, but deep down they really do love each other. She is a high ranking member of the Teen Ninjas and Father's apprentice. Voiced by Cree Summer.
- Action Girl
- Badass Normal
- Bare Your Midriff
- Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to her sister's Betty to Hoagie's Archie. Abby wins by a landslide.
- Big Sister Bully: She's one of the worst examples of this trope ever.
- Big Sister Mentor/Cool Big Sis: When she was still in the KND. Now, while such moments are very rare, Cree has shown that she's not totally uncaring toward Abby.
- Broken Pedestal: Towards Abby.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Numbuh Five's Abel.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Child-Hater
- The Danza
- Dark Action Girl
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Zig-zagged. She may show some kindness towards Abby, but that doesn't stop her for treating her like shit. And considering the mayority of the villains treating their loved ones (even if they're heroic) with way more respect and care, she comes across as worse than them in this regard, which has earned her Scrappy status.
- Face Heel Turn
- Fallen Hero
- Instant Armor
- It's All About Me
- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Sure, she may have her nice moments with her younger sister, but she's not above being an Ungrateful Bitch who treats her horribly. And while she does want to reconcile with her, she does want to do so by forcing Abby into a Face Heel Turn proving that, even if she cares about Abby, she cares more about herself, not willing to make any effort into repairing their relationship (that she destroyed in the first place).
- Kick the Dog: Rejecting Hank/Hoagie after he goes back to being a kid in "Operation: K.I.S.S." is understandable. What isn't is calling him a Fat Slob to his face. Which makes him choosing her sister Abby over her quite karmic.
- Kick the Morality Pet: To Numbuh Five. Constantly.
- Not So Different: From Mushi, as they're both the evil, treacherous and ungrateful sisters of the two female protagonists of the series. She's also this with Chad.
- Ship Tease: With Maurice.
- Smug Snake: She's not incompetent, but her behavior is so revolting it's impossible to see her as anything but this trope.
- Teens Are Monsters
- Ungrateful Bitch: YES. This is one of the many reasons she's largely despised by the fandom.
Mr. Boss[]
Mr. Boss
"So long, shrimp! I hope your friend likes Pluto!" |
CEO of a big company and additionally the "leader" of the villains, he tends to lead them on cooperative missions. He hates all children... except his own. Voiced by Jeff Bennett.
- Big Bad: Alternates with Father on this position.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Child-Hater
- Corrupt Corporate Executive
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He does love his children and would never harm them, which from a Child-Hater like him, this means a lot.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": "Operation: D.A.D.D.Y." reveals his last name to be Fulbright, so his villain name only shows his position.
- Evil Parents Want Good Kids
- Fat Bastard
- Good Smoking, Evil Smoking
- Hidden Heart of Gold: "Gold" may be stretching it, but he does show himself to be a caring, devoted father to his own children (who are KND operatives, by the way). He has shown some moments of camaraderie with other villains as well (even Toiletnator).
- Moral Myopia: He hates kids unless they happen to be his, which seems to be something of an unwritten rule for the KND villains.
- Pet the Dog: He does love his own children.
- Usually, he's the most adamant in treating Toiletnator like crap, but in "M.I.S.S.I.O.N", after Toiletnator offers himself to fight the KND while he and the other villains deal with the bowling match, he sincerely thanks him for it, even calling him by his real name, Lou. Toiletnator's reaction is pretty obvious.
- Vitriolic Best Buds/With Friends Like These...: With Toiletnator. He seems to despise him most of the time, and yet they're commonly seen together.
Toiletnator[]
Toiletnator
"Kids Next Door, prepare to be flushed!" |
The show's most pathetic villain. He gets no respect from the Kids Next Door or his fellow villains. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Adorkable
- Affably Evil: For a given value of "evil", anyway.
- Always Identical Twins: When he takes off his "Toiletnator" disguise, he's pretty much identical to his twin brother, Sid Beatles.
- Anti-Villain: Types II/IV.
- Awesome McCoolname
- Butt Monkey: To the point Pre-Crisis Doctor Light and Heinz Doofenshmirtz could kick his ass.
- Cain and Abel: Completely averted. He and his twin brother Sid (who is Wally's dad), upon reuniting, they get along swimmingly well, mostly because alignments aside, they have the exact same personality.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Child-Hater
- Cloudcuckoolander
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's show several signs of this through the series. Idiot though he may be, this does still apply.
- "Operation F.L.U.S.H."—He takes out five other villains thinking they're KND operatives in disguise. Of course, the five villains in question had just successfully taken over the Sector V treehouse, and then the actual members of Sector V (who have been all excused from school early) show up and kick his butt.
- Evil Uncle: Mild on the evil, he's this to Numbuh Four.
- Evil Twin: To Sid, Wally's father, although the term "evil" should be used very loosely.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: He's hated by other villains due to his incompetence and tendency to screw-up their plans.
- Friendly Enemy: He was friends with Numbuh Four for awhile ("Operation M.O.V.I.E."), and joined the announcers in the finale. Though, in the CM/HB example he referred to Numbuh Four (actually Nightbrace) as his arch-nemesis. Gets kinda weird when it's revealed in a canon comic that he's Numbuh Four's uncle.
- Granola Guy: Likes vegetables, hates meat.
- Harmless Villain: He's called the Toiletnator, for crying out loud!
- Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Very ineffectual, very sympathetic. Except when he is kind of effective.
- Jerkass Facade: An hilariously flimsy one.
- The Millstone: To the villains. Oh, so much.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain
- He comes up with a plan in "Operation: M.O.V.I.E.S." that impresses the other villains. Too bad Numbuh Four heard it first.
- He also managed to "flush" the entire Grand Canyon after the KND filled it with cereal and milk.
- Throw the Dog a Bone/Yank the Dog's Chain
- Toilet Humor: Played with. This is a kids' show, so it's used only in the most literal sense.
- Undying Loyalty: To Mr. Boss, as he states in "M.I.S.S.I.O.N".
- Villain Episode: "Operation: F.L.U.S.H."
- Villains Out Shopping
- Vitriolic Best Buds/With Friends Like These...: With Mr. Boss.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: It becomes very clear his motive for being a villain is to get respect from others, especially Mr. Boss. He almost never gets it.
- What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: His motif is questionable. It also seems he's got some psychic control over flushing.
- Heart Is an Awesome Power: Invoked. See the entries on Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass and Not-So-Harmless Villain. It doesn't seem so much that his powers are useless, he's just normally too short-sighted to use them correctly.
Stickybeard[]
Stickybeard
A spirited candy pirate who loots and plunders candy from neighborhood children. He respects Numbuh Five and seeks her as an apprentice. Voiced by Mark Hamill.
- Badass Beard
- Badass Normal: Among few villains that don't have superpowers, he even beat the crap out of Father twice in a round.
- Captain Color Beard: Or Adjective-beard.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Enemy Mine: With Numbuh Five, against Black John Licorice.
- Eternally Pearly-White Teeth: Subverted, his teeth are incredibly rotten from all the candy.
- Even Evil Has Standards: He refuses to allow the Great White Asparagus to eat Sector V. While that was more of a The Only One Allowed to Defeat You moment than anything else, he generally does seem to have some degree of honor.
- Friendly Enemy: With Numbuh Five.
- Hook Hand: With a candy cane instead of a hook.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's one of the most noble villains of the series, being willing to ally himself and even save the Kids Next Door on occassion, striking a particular friendship with Numbuh Five. He has to keep his good side hidden due to his villain status, though.
- Noble Demon
- Pirate
- Serious Business: Candy stealing is his prime modus operandi. Get in the way of that, and you're good as dead. Also being told if he was "sugar-free".
- Talk Like a Pirate: Of course, since he's an odd Expy of Blackbeard.
- Villains Out Shopping: He's helped Numbuh Five in one episode.
- We Can Rule Together: To Numbuh Five. It almost succeeded until she remembered her friends, but now it leads to below.
- Worthy Opponent: To Numbuh Five.
Heinrich Von Marzipan[]
Heinrich Von Marzipan
"Ach, lipschen, I say so many things I do not mean. Like, ah, no more candy for me, or, who would like some of my lollipops!" |
A former friend of Numbuh Five and current candy-hunting rival. He greedily seeks forbidden candy regardless of the consequences. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker / Candi Milo.
- Arch Enemy: To Numbuh Five.
- Beauty Equals Goodness: The main contrast between her true self Henrietta and Heinrich. Hell, when she sacrificed her "beauty" trait, it clearly meant both the external and internal one.
- Brought Down to Normal: Got turned into a chocolate monster that can turn anything he touches into chocolate. After Numbuh Five defeats him, the KND turns him back to normal.
- Card-Carrying Villain
- Cry Cute: In CARAMEL, after realizing Numbuh Five never gave up on him despite everything that happened.
- Gender Bender: In sacrificing his beauty, he switched genders. He's actually a girl.
- Greed: Obsessed with getting candy and never sharing it, which usually leads to many of his downfalls.
- Heel Face Turn
- Homage: To Indiana Jones Nazi villains.
- I Lied: As his quote indicates.
- My Name Is Not Durwood: Numbuh Five calls him "Heinie".
- Never My Fault: He does this a lot, such as in his first appearance where he blames Abby for tainting the candy with the taste of asparagus when she warned him before hand that being greedy will put that curse into effect. It's also his grudge for the Guatemala Incident as after he sacrificed his beauty due to yet another curse. He once more blamed Abby for not stopping him from eating his caramels and supposedly leaving him stuck in that state. Turns out she was trying to find a way to break the curse. Thankfully, when she becomes Henrietta again, she apologizes to Numbuh Five for acting like this.
- One-Winged Angel: In his first appearance after obtaining a jewel, he transforms into a monster with power of candy. Numbuh Five defeats him though. After falling into a chocolate volcano, he returned as a powerful monster who can turn things into chocolate by touching it. He was cured by the KND though.
- Noodle Incident: Throughout the series he remains angry at Numbuh Five for "Guatemala". His last appearance reveals that he performed a ritual to get delicious caramel by sacrificing their best trait (in his case beauty) and blamed Numbuh Five for allowing it to happen.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: When he returns after falling into a chocolate volcano, having been turned into a chocolate monster.
- Samus Is a Girl
- Serious Business: Like with Stickybeard, Candy is serious business.
- Took a Level in Kindness: After being turned back into Henrietta, she apologizes to Numbuh Five for her behavior as Heinrich, and thanks her for never giving up on her.
- Tragic Villain: While he skirts over the Moral Event Horizon for most of the series, the kind of crap he goes through is such it's hard not to pity him. CARAMEL only pushes this further, although he (or better said, she) manages to find redemption at the end.
Mushi Sanban[]
Mushi Sanban
She's Numbuh Three's little sister. At first seen as just an annoying brat, she eventually establishes herself as an evil kid who outright despises her much kinder sister. Voiced by Tara Strong.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: She appeared to be one at first, only to turn out to be much worse than that.
- Arch Enemy: To Numbuh Two.
- Big Sister Worship: Subverted. She seems to be this at first, only to reveal she absolutely despises her sister.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: If you thought she was just a younger version of her sister, you'd be dead wrong.
- Bratty Half-Pint
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Numbuh Three's Abel.
- Cute and Psycho: Even worse than her sister.
- Driven by Envy: Her rivalry with her sister is a result of this, although her spite is more focused on Numbuh Two.
- Enfante Terrible
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Her love for King Sandy is very genuine, as well as her love for her parents (which may have sparked her rivalry with her sister in the first place)
- Evil Is Petty: She destroyed her sister's Posh Party Rainbow Monkey out of spite. Even Cree wasn't nearly as petty.
- Freudian Excuse: It doesn't excuse anything she does, but her hatred for her sister seems to stem from the feeling her parents tend to spoil her sister more than her. Her relationship with King Sandy was also an important factor.
- Girlish Pigtails
- Love Makes You Evil: Ever since she started dating King Sandy, she became a villain (though she was definitely bratty beforehand).
- Not So Different: From Cree, being both traitorous, ungrateful jerks towards their heroic sisters.
- Spoiled Brat
- Unholy Matrimony: With King Sandy.
Grandfather[]
Grandfather
Father and Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero's father and an Evil Overlord who once ruled the entire planet. He's by far the most dangerous enemy the KND have every faced and makes Father look like a saint compared to him. Acted as the Big Bad in The Movie. Voiced by Neil Ross.
- Abusive Parent: He's why Father is the way he is. Let that sink for a moment.
- Berserk Button: Don't be a coward in his presence.
- Big Bad: Of The Movie.
- Blood Knight
- Blue and Orange Morality: While gleefully evil, he shows a very bizarre code of morality, showing respect only to those who rebel against him and despising cowards, regardless of the moral compass they have.
- Card-Carrying Villain: The first thing he says after being reawakened is to thank Father for "reawakening the pure evil" laying dormant within him.
- Eldritch Abomination
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: His fondness for his eldest son Numbuh Zero is shown to be genuine, as he was shown to be disappointed with his non-evil life and still kept him in his will despite (or perhaps because of) his rebellion against him. Granted, he still fights him when necessary, but this is as close to a redeeming trait he has. He may care for his youngest son as well, but due to his abuse and contempt for his cowardice, it's really unclear.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Due to his Blue and Orange Morality, he really, really hates cowards. It's even the reason for his Parental Favoritism.
- Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Played with. He does try to persuade Numbuh Zero to defect to his side, and is saddened when he refused. However, even when fighting him, he still cares for him (in his own bizarre way).
- Evil Overlord: Once ruled the world with an iron fist before Numbuh Zero betrayed and defeated him.
- Eviler Than Thou: To literally every villain in the Rogues Gallery once they find out his plan to turn everyone that's ever been a kid into Senor Citizombies includes them. Father actually outright states that Grandfather is eviler than him before reviving him, calling him "The World's Most Ultimate Evil".
- Expy: He seems to be partially based on Aku from Samurai Jack—a black, shadowy monster who stands a couple stories tall in his natural state, can manipulate fire, has a pretty screwed-up morality code, and his very awakening pretty much spells doom for the whole world.
- He's also an Expy of Darkseid, being evil overlords who clearly favor their bravely heroic sons over their meekly villainous sons.
- Faux Affably Evil: He's very polite and charming to pretty much everyone, even showing genuine care for his sons, but at no point there's any doubt he's a vicious monster who will do anything to accomplish his goals.
- Fisher King: When he rules the world, he uses his Reality Warper abilities to convert into an old-style Crapsack World complete with child labor, Industral Era-style factories making tapioca pudding for him to eat.
- Genre Savvy: Is smart enough to NOT underestimate Hope Springs Eternal and understands he hasn't really won until he's destroyed the Book of KND, which let Numbuh Zero defeat him the last time. And he also doesn't go out to find it until nearly the entire world is under his control and the Kids Next Door are all but destroyed.
- Humanoid Abomination
- Irony: His relationships with his sons in a nutshell. He loves and dotes on his oldest son Numbuh Zero, who rebelled against him and wants nothing to do with him; yet he despises his youngest son Father, who followed in his footsteps and desperately wants his approval.
- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: He does deeply love his son Monty, but he doesn't pull any punches when he becomes an obstacle in his plans. While this could be chalked up to his unconventional moral code, his general dickishness absolves him of nothing.
- Knight of Cerebus
- Large Ham: Is an even bigger ham than his son.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Literally. He had his memory erased by Numbuh Zero using some kind of laser, reducing him to a harmless old man until he's "recommissioned" by Father. This actually seems to be the only way to defeat him, as all other attempts failed completely.
- Morality Pet: Double subverted. Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero seems to be this, as he does like him as his son and considers him the favorite... but then tries to incinerate him when he turns on him without blinking an eye. However, he still liked Zero for the fact he was willing to stand up to him and give Grandfather something of a challenge. Before being decommissioned, he still has Zero in his will.
- Nigh Invulnerability: His reaction to getting crushed under the entire Kids Next Door Moonbase is to dust himself off and ask if they really thought that would work. Then again, he didn't know that was a distraction.
- No Ontological Inertia: His defeat restores the world to normal.
- Physical God: He's the single strongest villain in the series and is capable of surviving a direct hit from a Colony Drop without even a scratch. He can also 'age' the entire world at will.
- Playing with Fire: Father gets it from him.
- Rapid Aging: His primary ability is to age everything he touches, though not only does he age them rapidly, he turns them into his 'Senor Citizombie' minions.
- Reality Warper: He's capable of changing the world as he sees fit, normally to a more "old time" look.
- Social Darwinist
- Super-Powered Evil Side: His human form is a harmless old man so long as his memories aren't restored.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Tapioca pudding, so much so that was one of the reasons he wanted to rule the earth.
- Transformation Sequence: Unlike Father, who just grows his "shadow suit" back, Grandfather sucks in the shadows from everything in the room to form his after being reawakened in a much more elaborate fashion.
- Ungrateful Bastard: To Father, to the point you can't help but feel sorry for the guy.
- The Virus
- Vile Villain Saccharine Show
- You Got Spunk: The reason for his Parental Favoritism. He openly favors Monty over Ben because Monty was willing to openly defy him and give him a challenging fight, unlike Ben, who just complied to his orders and chickened out whenever things got dangerous.
- Citizombie Apocalypse
Other Characters[]
Lizzie[]
Elizabeth Devine (Lizzie)
Numbuh One's demanding girlfriend. While she's quite clingy, she does genuinely care for Nigel, but his work for the Kids Next Door strains their relationship. Voiced by Grey DeLisle.
- Badass Normal: Bonus points for not even being a KND Operative.
- Betty and Veronica: Technically, she's the Betty to Rachel's Veronica, but she has more of a Veronica personality.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: More downplayed than the fandom thinks, but there's definitely a manipulative, short-tempered, controlling streak behind her sweet, Girl Next Door exterior.
- Characterization Marches On: In her first appearance, she brainwashed Nigel into being her obediant boyfriend and even tried to make him destroy to his friends. The KND fight back and Nigel is unbrainwashed, but the episode ends with Lizzie getting the date she wanted anyway. Later episodes more or less completely ignored her origin story, and considerably softened her character.
- Clingy Jealous Girl
- Day in The Limelight: "Operation: L.U.N.C.H."
- Easily Forgiven: Apparently Nigel and the rest of Sector V had no hard feelings over the little matter of her having originally tried to Brainwash him, though it's mostly just Numbuh One and Numbuh Three. Numbuh Two and Four openly dislike her, dreading any contact with her at all. They just don't verbalize it much due to fearing her bad temper (well, at least Numbuh Two fears her temper). Numbuh Five is tolerant of her at best.
- Girl Next Door: Puns aside, she has the appearance of one. Keyword being "appearance".
- Eye Glasses
- The Friend Nobody Likes: About the only ones in Sector V who honestly like her are Numbuh One (her boyfriend) and Numbuh Three. Numbuhs Two and Four can't stand her, while Numbuh Five is at best tolerant.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She and Numbuh One eventually break up when she realizes the world needs him more than she does, and that his first loyalty will always be to the Kids Next Door.
- Jerkass Has a Point: There are times her short fuse isn't entirely unwarranted, mostly concerning Nigel's Workaholic behavior.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's controlling, short-tempered and obsessive, but she can be kind to others and genuinely loves Nigel.
- Lethal Chef: If your food seriously knocks out Numbuh Two, you more than qualify for this trope.
- Let's Get Dangerous: When she's properly motivated (either by Numbuh One being in danger or her plans being interrupted one too many times), she's a mecha-commandeering force to be reckoned with.
- The Load: On occasion.
- Mood Swinger
- Official Couple: Her and Numbuh One. They break up later, and actually she is the one who brought it up.
- Opposites Attract: With Nigel. Deconstructed, as their differences prove too much for the relationship to survive.
- Palette Swap: She has the same character model as one of the Delightful Children From Down The Lane.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She's Nigel/Numbuh One's girlfriend.
- Tsundere: Oh, yes, sometimes dipping into Yandere'ish tendencies in her more extreme moods.
- Violently Protective Girlfriend: To Nigel.
- Woman Scorned: At worst.
Tommy Gilligan[]
Thomas "Tommy" Gilligan
Numbuh Two's little brother, Tommy is an excitable child ready to fight adult tyranny. Unfortunately, circumstances effectively halted his KND career. He now fights solo as "The Tommy". Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
- Adorkable
- Big Brother Worship: They may have something of a rivalry, but it's clear Tommy idolizes his older brother and wants to be a hero like him.
- Broken Streak: In "Operation: C.A.K.E.D.-F.O.U.R." he breaks his family's Tube-A-Thon losing streak (Despite his brother coming in 2nd).
- The Cowl: Well, he tries to be at least.
- A Day in the Limelight: "Operation: D.U.C.K.Y.".
- Disappeared Dad
- Dude, Where's My Reward?: In "Operation: G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S.".
- Expy: His "The Tommy" persona is pretty much Batman mixed with Darkwing Duck.
- Hates Baths
- Heroic Sacrifice: In "Operation: G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S.".
- Heroic Wannabe
- I Work Alone: After becoming "The Tommy".
- Keet: Ties in with his Large Ham status, as he is a lot more hyper and enthusiastic than his brother.
- Large Ham: Once he becomes "The Tommy", he becomes considerably hammier.
Numbuh Five: "I work alone! I am The Tommy!" He is definitely your brother, Numbuh Two. |
- Lower Deck Episode: "Operation: T.R.A.I.N.I.N.G.".
- Nice Guy: Flaws aside, he's just as sweet and kind as his older brother.
- Plucky Comic Relief: Mostly.
- Sixth Column
- Spell My Name with a "The": He calls himself The Tommy, though he's about the only one.
- Straw Loser: Not "Loser" per se, but he's such an oddball it makes Numbuh Two look like the Only Sane Man by comparison.
- Tagalong Kid
- You Are Number Six: Played with. He takes the title of Numbuh T during his brief tenure with the KND.
The Kid[]
The Kid
A pilot in shades, The Kid is a rival pilot of Numbuh Two, and Numbuh Four's rival for Numbuh Three's affections. Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.
- Ace Pilot: He surpasses Numbuh Two in this regard.
- The Ace
- Always Someone Better: Played straight to Numbuh Two in terms of piloting, but subverted to Numbuh Four in terms of romance.
- Betty and Veronica: He would be the Veronica to Wally's Betty, except for the fact Kuki only has eyes for Wally.
- Cool Shades
- Friendly Rivalry: With Numbuh Two.
- Hopeless Suitor: He has no chance of winning Kuki's affections, since she's pretty much Wally-sexual (not that Wally sees this, of course)
- No Name Given: Apart from Ace, which may or may not be his real name.
- The Rival: To Numbuh Two in piloting and Numbuh Four in romance.
- Romantic False Lead: In the Numbuh Three/Numbuh Four pairing.
- You Know What You Did: In "Operation: D.O.G.F.I.G.H.T.".
Monty Uno[]
Monty Uno/Numbuh Zero
He's Numbuh 1's father, a bumbling but well-meaning man obsessed with Sousaphone music and spending quality time with his son. Seemingly. In reality, he's the legendary Numbuh Zero, the founder of the KND, as well as being related to the main villains, Father and Grandfather. Voiced by Frank Welker.
- Adorkable
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: How Numbuh One sees him. At least, when he's not Numbuh Zero.
- Badass Moustache
- Bald of Awesome: Like Father, Like Son.
- Big Brother Instinct: Implied. His moniker, "Numbuh Zero", was given by Ben when he said there was "zero" chances of winning against him, and they've been shown to be close as children. Even after knowing his baby brother became Father, he still was willing to team up with him against his father.
- Big Good: As Numbuh Zero.
- Broken Ace: As Numbuh Zero. True, he was the founder and greatest hero of the KND, but this didn't come from a pleasant life. The reason he desperately tries to be a good dad to his son is because he doesn't want to be the horrible father Grandfather is, and doesn't want Nigel to suffer the same way he and his brother had.
- Bumbling Dad: He's like this when decommissioned. As Numbuh Zero, on the other hand...
- Cain and Abel: The Abel to Father's Cain, though subverted in that the brothers still care for each other, and Monty would rather fight their own dad over him.
- Cool Big Bro: To Father. He may be jealous of him, but he's the only person he does seem to genuinely care for and has a healthy relationship with.
- Cool Shades: See Numbuh One's shades? They were his before.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: A rare justified example. The "moron" part is largerly due to his decommissioning, and once recovering his memories, he proves how much of a badass he really is.
- Good Parents: He even states this as his Goal in Life. And considering his family situation, it's not hard to see why.
- Happily Married: To his wife.
- Morality Pet: To his brother and, to a lesser degree, his father. Father is shown to genuinely care about him, mostly because he's the only person who has given him any love and affection in his mostly crappy life. Grandfather, while not willing to pull any punches, is very fond of him due to the fact he was willing to rebel against him.
- My Hero Zero
- Nice Guy
- Papa Wolf: He will do anything for his son.
- Parental Favoritism: He was very obviously Grandfather's favorite child. He doesn't want any of it.
- Parental Obliviousness
- Retired Badass
- Sibling Yin-Yang: With Benedict/Father.
- Thicker Than Water: He still cares about his brother Ben even after he became the villainous Father, most likely because he knows his fall into villainy is largerly Grandfather's fault. As for his dad, he has nothing but contempt for his Super Powered Evil Side, but he treats him kindly once transformed into a harmless old man.
- Walking Spoiler: His identity as Numbuh Zero.
- White Sheep
