The successor to DC Extended Universe, the DC Universe is a multimedia franchise helmed by James Gunn and given a more cohesive vision and narrative than the DCEU did.
While this is a fresh start for DC movies, characters and events from DCEU properties The Suicide Squad, the first season of Peacemaker and Blue Beetle exist in Broad Strokes.
The first arc of this universe is called "Gods and Monsters".
Movies and TV shows in this universe include:
- Creature Commandos (2024)
- Superman (2025)
- Season 2 of Peacemaker (2025)
- Supergirl (2026)
- The Authority (TBA)
- The Brave and the Bold (TBA)
- Swamp Thing (TBA)
- Lanterns (TBA)
- Paradise Lost (TBA)
- Booster Gold (TBA)
- Alternate History: Superman implies that the DCU being one is the result of metahumans becoming known sometime in the 1700s.
- Broad Strokes: The characters and events from The Suicide Squad, Season 1 of Peacemaker and Blue Beetle are incorporated in this manner to varying degrees.
- Continuity Reboot: Though not completely as some events from the previous DCEU happened.
- Denser and Wackier: Compared to the more grounded DCEU, the DCU is far more willing to embrace how wacky the source material is, such as imps and kaijus being Unusually Uninteresting Sights.
- In Medias Res: The DCU starts with Metahumans being a known fact and people quite used to strange sights.
- Poorly-Disguised Pilot: Creature Commandos has been described as an "appetizer" before Superman, the first official installment of the universe.
- Shared Universe
- Shout-Out: The name of the first arc, "God and Monsters" is this to the 1931 Frankenstein movie. Fitting, considering the DC version of the Monster is one of the first characters introduced.
- Truer to the Text: Far more in line with DC's entries from The Silver Age of Comic Books instead of the Darker and Edgier DCEU.
