When certain forms of 'new media' aren't so 'new' anymore, some of them can fall into this trope.
New Media[]
- Any number of older social networks. Friendster is considered one of the defining examples of a fallen social network (although it stayed popular in Asia), and My Space has gone the same way due to competition from (and attempts to catch up with) Facebook.
- Online services like Prodigy, Compu Serve, iMagination, etc. When the internet was fledgling during the 90's, they were extremely popular. However, the more efficient, less resource-intensive and not-to-mention free World Wide Web put them on a steady decline. Today, America Online is the only one of these services that still remains. And even that's pretty much on its last legs.
- Memes often become outdated quickly. Or people just become tired of them.
- "Official" sites, with companies now promoting their work on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter
- Fan sites, while still around, are nowhere near as prominent or as plentiful or as influential as they were prior to the rise of Facebook and other social media sites. Facebook fan groups seem to have largely replaced them for many people.
- Text review sites. Most of them are either gone, dead on their tracks, or they converted into video review sites.
