Deadpool 2 is a 2018 black comedy superhero film and a sequel to 2016's Deadpool. It had most of the cast of the first film returning with Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz as Domino.
After a failed suicide attempt in the wake of his lover Vanessa's death, Deadpool joins the X-Men and becomes caught up in an effort to stop Cable, a Time Traveler who has come from the future to kill a young mutant named Firefist.
Deadpool assembles a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits to help him, named X-Force, but in the end, it comes down to just Deadpool and Domino to save the day (and the yesterday), as much of the X-Force dies horribly because Deadpool completely ignored weather news.
Both Deadpool and Cable's plans are ruined by the fact Firefist became friends with none other than Juggernaut. With a complete lack of enough people to do with such threat, Deadpool tries to get the help of Colossus and his team of X-Men (that is just Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukio) in the best way possible: blasting Peter Gabriel from a boombox.
It received a sequel six years later, Deadpool & Wolverine.
- Actor Allusion: Deadpool calls Cable "Thanos" and "One Eyed Willy".
- Bilingual Bonus: Anyone who actually speaks Spanish will know that Deadpool does not.
- The Cameo: The younger X-Men are shown when Deadpool asks why he never sees any X-Men. They close the door to avoid having to deal with him.
- Darker and Edgier: While it is mostly comedic like the first film, it has some more darkness.
- Driven to Suicide: Deadpool tried to kill himself... but since he can regenerate, he can't.
- Epic Fail: The X-Force's Hollywood Skydiving. Reality Ensues as things like buses, power lines, helicopters and wood chippers get in the way when wind blows them off course. The only survivors, bar Deadpool himself, are Domino (thanks to her luck powers) and Peter (because Deadpool saved him via Time Travel).
- The Friend Nobody Likes: The reason we never see another X-Man around Deadpool? They don't want to be around him.
- If You Kill Him You Will Be Just Like Him: Why Wade is so desperate to stop Russell from killing the Headmaster let the kid cross the Moral Event Horizon.
- Mistaken for Racist:
- Negasonic Teenage Warhead assumes Deadpool is homophobic given his reaction to her dating Yukio. He's not. He's just shocked that anyone would be dating Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
- Deadpool keeps trolling Cable by assuming he's racist and lecturing him on civil rights.
- Self-Deprecation: Deadpool notes that the X-Men are a rather clunky metaphor for racism... even in the 1960s. Never mind now.
- Set Right What Once Went Wrong:
- Cable's motivation for time travelling back and killing Russell.
- Played for Laughs when Deadpool later uses the tech to take out his X Men Origins: Wolverine and stop Green Lantern from being made.
- The Stinger: Deadpool uses Cable's time machine to prevent the deaths of Vanessa and Peter... but also kills off his Origins self and Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern. In the unrated version, he kills a baby Adolf Hitler.
- Take That:
- Deadpool makes fun of Logan in the opening.
- Deadpool asks if Cable being so dark means he's from the DC Extended Universe. He also pokes fun at Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
- Toxic Friend Influence: Deadpool got Colossus to swear.
- Truer to the Text: The Juggernaut is more faithful to his comic book self compared to The Last Stand.
- What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Deadpool is very skeptical of Domino's Luck powers. They prove immensely useful.
