Straight: The Dark King absorbs Jarrod so he can take his powers.
Exaggerated: The Dark King absorbs every one of his henchmen to get an advantage over the heroes.
Downplayed: Sometimes the Dark King will absorb his men, but not all of them since he finds some of them trustworthy.
Justified:
Inverted: Jarrod then kills the Dark King to take his position as the main villain.
