  • Common Knowledge: Many think that the remakes are just a way for Disney to extend/secure their copyrights. Expect that's not at all how copyright law works and making the films has no bearing on when the copyrights will expire.
  • Critic Proof: Only a few of these movies have been box office failures. The rest have been successes, if nothing to write home about, despite generally tepid critical reviews.
  • Franchise Original Sin: A common critique of the films is their perceived over-reliance on Stunt Casting (such as Baloo in The Jungle Book largely being Bill Murray Adam Westing). But this was a thing in the original films as well (would anyone deny that the original Genie was just Robin Williams doing voices?). But, in these movies, people can better draw a link between performer and character, so it seems more obvious here.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks: If you manage to cut through the Vocal Minority's whining, you'll end up here. The remakes are not bad films on their own merits but they make too few changes from the original to justify their existence in the minds of most fans.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Having A-list actors as iconic Disney characters does draw in a crowd of people who'd like to see some of their favorite actors in such roles.
  • Memetic Mutation: "When will Disney remake X?", a largely dead meme but it was once a source of Snark Bait about the fact that Disney would seemingly remake any of its older films.
    • The one exception is Pocahontas. Disney has made crystal clear that it's the only Animated Canon movie that will never get a Canon Remake.
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: No doubt the first thing anyone hears of the films online is all the worst parts of the internet throwing a tantrum over the films for one reason or another. That has not hurt the box office.
  • Older Than They Think: Disney has been doing remakes of its classics since 1994. It's only starting in 2010 that they became a consistent thing.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Snow White, far more than other Canon Remakes, for these reasons:
    • The fact that Snow White, who is every version of the story is described as having "skin as white as snow", is being played by a Latina actress.
    • The fact that said actress, Rachel Zegler, has made several noxious comments, making the movie a PR nightmare.
    • The fact that the Dwarves are depicted with CGI instead of either hiring actors with dwarfism, or shrinking regular actorts with camera work, plus the fact that said CGI falls squarely into the Uncanny Valley.
    • The fact that, much like Snow White and the Huntsman and Once Upon a Time, the movie makes Snow White more proactive and makes the Witch Queen's motivation less about beauty and more about securing her grip on the kingdom.
