After I saw Annie I had to hit myself on the head with a small hammer to get that stupid "Tomorrow" song out of my head.

    • Isn't it enough that I scratch your ever itch?" "Bitch!
    • "Take me baby, or leave me"
    • Why did Mimi knock on Roger's door and Collins choose that phone booth back where Angel set up his drums...
    • this troper's surprised that this was never mentioned "NO DAY BUT TOOOOODAYYYYY"
  • Rossini was a master at creating these — for this troper, nothing comes close to "Una voce poco fa."
    • Forget that - nothing, but nothing holds a candle to "Largo al factotum." "Laaa, la la la la la la la la la LA laaa... Figaro la, Figaro qua, Figaro su, Figaro giu..."
      • Then, of course, there are his overtures. "William Tell" and "Barber of Seville" are particularly difficult to remove from your brain once they get a foothold.
  • La Donna e' Mobile from Verdi's Rigoletto.
  • This troper so does love Spamalot... but if I so much as think of a song from it, ANY song, it is stuck in her head for a week. "His Name Is Lancelot" is an especially persistent ear worm.
    • ... why did you have to go and say that?
    • And "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life" (part of the chorus actually involves whistling)...and "Run Away"...and "He Is Not Dead Yet"...
    • Once in every show, there comes a song like this...
    • They won't care if it's witty, or everything looks pretty, they'll simply say it's shitty and refuse... Gaaah, I can barely keep up with that song but it gets stuck in my head for days at a time!
    • "I am coming too, my name will be Sir Fred! I'll be your musician 'cause I'm not yet dead!" And then they eat the minstrels.
  • This troper is currently doing Bye Bye Birdie. "WE LOVE YOU CONRAD, OH YES WE DO, WE LOVE YOU CONRAD, AND WE'LL BE TRUE"... boom, oh sorry, I just tried to shoot myself.
  • "Sit down, John..."
  • Anything and everything from Wicked. Especially 'Popular' and 'No Good Deed'. This troper hasn't had anything else in her head for months.
    • "I'm flying high, defying gravity!"
    • Who cares about earworms, "when you're dancing through liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife!"
    • LOATHING. UNADULTERATED LOATHING.

    • NO GOOD DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED GOES UNPUNIIIIISHED!!
    • Not to forget "For Good," which is sung by at least one middle school choir a year.
  • Springtime For Hitler
    • "Keep it Light, Keep it Bright, Keep it GAY!" was a meme among me and my friends after watching the newer film.
    • "Haben sie gehort das deutsche baaand!"
  • "Candide"
  • In the Heights
    • Anything that Lin-Manuel Miranda raps.
    • "I'll be downtowwwwwn!"
    • "When I was a child I stayed wide awake, climbed to the highest place on every fire escape!"

      • "Parriba esa bandera! HEY! Alzala donde quiera! HEY! Recuerdo de mi tierra! HEY!"
    • "Honk your horn if ya want it!"
    • "Anything at all can happen just before the sunrise..."
    • Not to mention the irresistible urge to click along with "As The Sun Goes Down", which many a rude audience member did when the show was playing.
    • "No pare, SIGUE SIGUE!"
    • "The hydrants are open, cool breezes blow."
  • The Phantom of the Opera. And "Angel of Music". And "Prima Donna". And "Masquerade"...
    • Dare you trust the music of the niiiiiiiight? Actually, any song from Phantom sticks in this troper's head with some regularity. Masquerade! Paper faces on parade!
    • The Phantom of the Opera is here... Inside my mind.
    • Far too many notes for my taste...
    • The trumpets of Carthage resound, hear Romans now and tremble...
  • Phantom's sequel Love Never Dies also has its fair share.
  • Reefer Madness The Musical has a couple, notable Listen to Jesus Jimmy.
  • Hatred of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals in general owes a lot to his penchant for Ear Worm songs; the fact that musical themes are frequently reprised in his shows doesn't help. A common joke is that his songs are ear worms because they get drummed into your head all night long. Before Phantom, of course, there was "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" (Evita) and "Memory" (Cats).
    • Oh! Well! I never! Was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mr. Mistophiles?
    • Lest we forget "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Earworm the Musical (TM)! And the worst part is that there's no book to speak of, so all you remember is... those songs. Listen to ((BROKEN))"Go Go Go Joseph", ((BROKEN))"Those Canaan Days", and ((BROKEN))"Benjamin Calypso" at your own risk.
      • "...It was red and yellow and green and brown and scarlet and black and ochre and peach and ruby and olive and violet and fawn and lilac and gold and chocolate and maube and cream and crimson and silver and rose and azure and lemon and russet and grey and purple and white and pink and orange and blue."
      • "Poor, poor, Joseph, whatcha gonna do?"
      • "There's one more angel in heaven, there's one more star in the sky...."
      • "Pottiphar had very few cares, he was one of Egypt's millionaires..."
      • "Who's the thief who's the thief?"
      • "I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain, to see for certian, what I thought I knew..."
    • "Jesus Christ Superstar" - "Hosanna Heysanna Sanna Sanna Ho" "I don't Know How To Love Him" and "Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ, Who are you? What have you sacrificed?"
      • The bass riff in "Heaven on Their Minds" ("Dun dun-dun DUN dun-da-dum, dun dun-dun DUN dun-da-dum") will never leave your head once it's made itself cozy.
      • "Christ, you know I love you, did you see I waved? I believe in you and God, so tell me that I'm saved."
      • "What's the buzz? Tell me, what's a-happening?"
    • "Mongo-Jerry and Rrrrrummple-Teaser!"
    • "The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious cat!"
  • After having 'Zydrate Anatomy' from 'Repo! The Genetic Opera' stuck in her head for three days, this troper broke down and bought the soundtrack. 'Infected' and 'Mark it up' have joined a rotating earworm infestation.
    • Tonight it's curtains/You're the night surgeon!
  • 'Tanz der Vampire' is FULL OF THESE to a positively unholy level, and rendered worse for most English speakers based on the fact that it's impossible to get a good version in English. There's the finale, "Wenn Liebe In Dir Ist", and, most lethally... "Tot zu sein ist komisch". "Tot zu sein" is possibly the most aggressive earworm this troper has ever encountered, even more so in its ((BROKEN))jazzy Act II reprise. Simple, repetitive tune, clear refrain... oh yes. Just try getting it out of your head. This troper has given up and made it her audition piece.
  • "Die Schatten werden langer/und doch Alle bleibe blind und stumm!"
  • Gerard Presgurvic's Roméo et Juliette gives the world "Verone", which has the unusual property of possessing its wormiest properties in the little string flourishes in the chorus, not the main tune.
  • The Cannon Song from Brecht/Weill's Threepenny Opera has maybe ((BROKEN))the stickiest horn riff in musical history.
  • It's time to join the family business.... That and Together again for the first time... have not left this troper's head since he saw Young Frankenstein on Broadway. He also made the mistake of buying the soundtrack. It will never leave!
    • For this troper it was "Transylvania Mania". Also, "He VAS my BOOOOOOOYFRIIIIEND!"
  • Hairspray. Need more? Well, let's start with "Good Morning Baaaaaaltimore/Every day's like an oooo-pen door!/Every night is a faaaaan-ta-syyyyyy, every sound's like a syyyyym-pho-nyyyy...", and go from there. Other Egregious offenders are "I Can Hear The Bells," "The New Girl In Town," and the (admittedly awesome) "You Can't Stop The Beat." Listen at your peril: these will never. Leave. Your head.
  • Altar Boyz! viewers beware. "Rhythm In Me" will be running through your head for up to two weeks after you've seen the show.
  • Every single song from Grease, but especially "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin'," and "Sandra Dee."
    • Look at me, I'm Saaandra Deee!
    • "We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong!"
  • "Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down and ooooout..." Made infinitely more earwormy by its use in WALL-E.
  • The hills are alive...
    • Do, a deer, a female deer...
    • Rodgers and Hammerstein's music is one of this troper's favorite things.
    • "So long, Farewell, Aufwiedersehn, Adeiu." Actually almost every song from The Sound of Music gets stuck in this toper's head.
    • You are sixteen going on seventeen, baby it's time to think...
    • Edelweiss . . . edelweiss . . .
    • .....TIIIIILL YOOOUUU FIIIIND.........YOOOOOOOOUUUUUR DREEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAM!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lights up in Washington Heights! Up at the break of day, I wake up and I've got this little punk I've got to chase away... The video is In The Height's original cast's Tony performance, so it's a combo of In the Heights and 96,000. Still, the whole show gets stuck in your head.
    • 96,000! 96,000! We'll get the dough and once we get going we're never gonna stop!
    • Piragua, piragua, new block of ice, piragua...damn, now I've got that song stuck in my head AND I want a snowcone!
  • When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way...
    • I feel pretty! Oh, so pretty! I feel pretty and witty and BRIIIIGHT!
    • Mariiiaaaaaaa, I've just met a girl named Mariiaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

  • Just about any song from My Fair Lady.
    • "And where is that BLASTED, SOGGY PLAIN?!" "IN SPAIN!"
  • ((BROKEN))Oh, when it's your wedding day, and my music starts to play, I can guarantee the love will find you!
  • "Into the woods, it's time to go, it may be all in vain I know. Into the woods but even so, I have to start my journey!" The worst part about this musical? You will have it stuck in your head, but the lyrics are so complex that you'll mostly be muttering through the words in a vast mist. So get the soundtrack. And memorize.
    • "I SORT OF HATE DO ASK IT BUT DO YOU HAVE A BASKET" Just that part. Stuck in my head for months.
    • "Hello, little girl...what's your rush? You're missing all the floweeerrrsss...the sun won't set for hours...take your time..."
    • "Greens, greens, nothing but greens! Parsley, peppers, cabbages, and celery, asparagus and watercress and fiddleferns and lettuce..."
    • "And I know things now, many valuable things, that I hadn't thought to explore..."
    • "See, it's YOUR fault!" "No!" "So it's your fault!" "No!" "Yes it is!" "It's not!" "It's true!" "Wait a minute--but I only stole the gold to get my cow back from YOU!"
    • "Am I not sensitive, clever, well-mannered, considerate, passionate, charming, as kind as I'm handsome, and heir to a throne?" "You are everything maidens could wish for!" "Then why no--" "Would I know?" "The girl must be mad!" "You know nothing of madness--till you're climbing her hair and you see her up there as you're nearing her, all the while hearing her--"
    • Ahhhhhh, ah, ahhhhhh, ah-ah, ah-ahhhh...
    • "THERE ARE GIANTS IN THE SKY! BUUUUUM... There are big tall terrible giants in the skyyy... buuummm..."

    • "Anything can happen in the woods--may I kiss you? Any moment we could be crushed--don't feel rushed."

    • "No more curses you can't undo, left by fathers you never knew! No more quests... No more feelings... Time to shut the door. Just--no more..."
  • Urinetown: Run freedom run! Freedom run away! My friends, you have to run run-a run-a run, freedom run away!
    • "Better hope your pennies / add up to the fee / We can't have you peeing for free..."
    • Weeeellll, it's a hard, cold, tumble-of-a-tourney/ Worthy of a gurney/ A bum-ble-down...
  • "Story of my life! Booted from the hall! Told to go away! Tumbled off the wall! That's the story of my life!

  • Several from The Drowsy Chaperone, but it's "Toledo Surprise" that gets the Lampshade Hanging:
Cquote1

      • "Acid marijuana and hash / will you high in a flash / let's go and see what he means!"
  • Despite the unhumability of Frank's songs, the main recurring tune of Merrily We Roll Along is rather catchy, at any tempo.
    • This is especially notable since said plot point was Stephen Sondheim commenting on how his own work was criticized as being "unhummable".
  • "God Said" from Leonard Bernstein's Mass may be the catchiest song written in 7/8 time.
  • E-very-thing to-day is thoroughly mo-dern! (Check your personality!)

  • THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A DAAAAAME, NOTHING IN THE WOOOOORLD
    • I'm as corny as Kansas in August, I am as normal as blueberry pie~
  • Hair. At least the original Broadway and the re-make. This troper has been known to break out singing both the title songs and "Let the Sunshine In" at random intervals of the day. However, she suspects that "Aquarius" is probably the worst offender for the general population. "This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius. The age of Aquarius. Aquariuuuuus..."
