Trivia about Edward Scissorhands includes:
- Dawson Casting: Anthony Micheal Hall was 22 at time of release when he played Jim.
- Winona Ryder was downplayed at 19 when she was Kim.
- Edward is Ageless but was built to be a Teenager/young adult. Johnny Deep was 26.
- DVD Commentary Two- one with Tim Burton, the other with Danny Elfman that combinend with his score.
- Dyeing for Your Art: Johnny Deep had to lose 20 pounds for the part.
- Enforced Method Acting: Vincent Price really did collapsed from the heat in the scene where he dies due to the bright lights, Burton decided to keep that in as Price was in frail of health.
- Mid-Development Genre Shift: Tim Burton originally planned for this to be a musical, but dropped it because it was too big for him. He would later get to do a musical with The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.
- Playing Against Type: Anthony Micheal Hall was known for playing nerdy Nice Guys. In this he's the villain.
- Winona Ryder was known to play Gloomy Goths In Beetlejuice (film), Heathers and Mermaids. Here she's a happy Nice Girl.
- Alan Akrin, best known as angry or strict characters plays Peg's careless husband Bill.
- Vincent Price usually played characters who were creepy gothic madmans, but the Inventor was instead a kind and gentle man who's only downfall was unfinshing Edward before he died.
- Romance on the Set: Just like their characters Johnny Deep and Winona Ryder Fell in Love while filming.
- What Could Have Been: Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Gary Oldman were all offered the part of Edward but turned it down. Cruise because he had Creative Differences with Tim Burton, including wanting a lighter tone and he asked too much strange questions about Edward, Hanks because he was busy and Oldman because he couldn't understand the script. Jim Carrey and Robert Downey, Jr. were also considered.
- Corey Feldman and Wil Wheaton both declined the role of Jim due to being busy on the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and Star Trek: The Next Generation respectively. Another Goonie member Sean Astin turned it down since he was reluctant to play a villain. He would later play another blond haired bully in The Loud House episode "One of the Boys" as the male Leni. Kiefer Sutherland (who presumably turned it down to avoid typecasting), Christen Salter and Kieth Coogan were also considered.
- Molly Ringwald, Elisabeth Shue, Ally Sheedy, Jennifer Connelly, Heather Langenkamp and Uma Thurman all tried out for the part of Kim. Sara Gilbert had to turn it down because the producers of Roseanne refused to release her from her contract.
- Rick Baker was to do the effects and makeup but he was busy on Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
- Leonard Nimoy was up for the part for the Inventor had Vincent Price turned it down or was unable to play it.
- Tim Burton wanted Robert Smith to do the soundtrack, but Smith declined because he didn't know who was Tim Burton at the time and was also busy.
- The Inventor's role was meant to be even bigger. But Vincent Price was very ill while filming, which was why he was only able to appear in a small part.
- Macauley Cukin was Tim Burton's first choice to play Kevin Boggs, but he declined because he was about to play another young boy named Kevin in Home Alone.
- Dustin Hoffman turned down the part of Bill because he was going to do Dick Tracy. The late Harry Dean Stanton and Roy Schindler were also considered.
