As expected from the title, this trope is the opposite of Role Ending Misdemeanor and, ironically enough, happens because of it.
So, the actor, or someone involved in the crew, said or did something inappropiate. So, you fire him. Easy, right?
Nope.
Maybe what the subject said was something political, and, as it turns out, the ones on his side of politics as just as vocal (if not more so) than the other side. Maybe the subject in question apologized, but was fired anyway. Maybe many feel that, as inappropiate as it was, what the subject did wasn't enough to warrant firing. Maybe people feel the studio is playing Moral Guardian. Maybe the subject is so charismatic, or such a talented actor/writer/producer/whatever, that many are willing to look past what he did. Or maybe the subject is actually innocent, with the firing having happened before proof of his innocence came to light.
For whatever reason, this means that it's now the studio who is facing heavy backlash and vocal opposition.
May end up in the studio rehiring the subject, or it may not.
- One that involves a character rather than an actor: Pepe Le Pew was removed from Space Jam: A New Legacy, and then Adapted Out of all future Looney Tunes works, after several petitions saw his Anything That Moves-type character as trivializing rape culture. This caused an immense backlash from people who either don't see anything wrong with Pepe's behavior, or feel like he works well as a Villain Protagonist and/or Token Evil Teammate.
- After Gina Carano tweeted (and TikTokked) several posts where she (who is a Republican) compared Republicans to victims of the Holocaust, Disney fired her from The Mandalorian. This caused an immense backlash from the right wing, with many cancelling their Disney+ subscriptions.
- Both Funimation and Rooster Teeth faced immense backlash over firing Vic Mignona due to accusations of sexual harassment, with Mignona's supporters creating the "I Stand with Vic" movement.
- There's a huge backlash against Jew Wario's Unperson treatment following accusations of sexual harassment.
- Disney faced immense backlash when they fired James Gunn over a series of offensive tweets (that were made long before he was hired by Marvel Studios, and that he long apologized for). It created an environment of discontent among the Guardians of the Galaxy actors, and it discouraged ANY director from taking the reins of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, to the point that Disney had no choice but to rehire Gunn.
- Spoony being fired from Channel Awesome over several controversial things he said and did generated backlash back when it first happened, due to Spoony's obvious and crippling mental issues. Of course, after Change the Channel, the decision to support Spoony has been Vindicated by History.
- The decision to not induct Chyna in the WWE Hall of Fame due to her pornographic works was met with backlash due to her being one of the most popular female wrestlers in the business back when she was alive. It's also similar to the Spoony situation in that Chyna was mentally unwell back when she was alive. She was eventually inducted as part of D-Generation X.
- Paul Reubens' career taking a nosedive after being arrested for masturbating in a pornographic theater was met with heavy frustration and disdain by Paul Reubens fans, who feel it was something too harsh for a relative minor crime (one famous celebrity once pointed out "Where is Pee-Wee supposed to masturbate, anyway?"). When he died in 2023, most people chose to ignore the whole debacle and mourned him sincerely.
- The attempts to posthumously take Michael Jackson down with the documentary Leaving Neverland clashed with the many Michael Jackson fans who are willing to look past the allegations and enjoy his music.
- Scott Cawthon was more or less forced to retire from Five Nights at Freddy's after Twitter uncovered donations he made to the Republican Party (and, overall, that he himself is a Republican). This caused an immense backlash, not just from the right wing, but also from both Cawthon's fans, and people in general who are tired of the toxic atmosphere that tends to surround Twitter.
- The decision to fire Johnny Depp from Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore badly hurt that movie. Mostly because it eventually came to light that Depp was in fact the victim and Amber Heard was the abuser (which many being frustrated at the fact that Heard still kept her role as Mera in the DC Extended Universe, although this hasn't affected the DCEU movies).
