  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

H-games (or, more properly, eroge, an abbreviation of erotic game) are Video Games with sex or heavy Fan Service in them.

Though there are some examples of eroge in nearly every genre, the most common forms are the Dating Sim (especially in the early examples of the genre) and the Visual Novel (more popular in recent years). Also common are 3-D simulators like Artificial Girl, which throw out the plot entirely and leave in only the bare minimum of Dating Sim elements in favor of more Jiggle Physics.

Although the term "H-game," literally translatable as "pervert game," would suggest otherwise, the erotic content is sometimes about as important as similar content in an R-rated film. Many games tend to have only have one sex scene at the end after hours of play and in a large number sex scenes can be disabled by menu options. As a result, many are re-released with said content cut for the sake of reaching a wider audience. There is a large crossover between Visual Novel and Porn with Plot because of the more story-oriented nature of Visual Novels.

In general, the protagonist will be one of six broad character types, and only rarely if ever generic and faceless. Those six types are, in order from the most respectable and moral to the least:

1. Nice Guy

2. Troubled but Cute:

  • Type A - similar to the Nice Guy, but flawed in some capacity. Generally fairly well-liked and can be used in a fairly light story.
  • Type B - closer to the Jerk with a Heart of Gold, often used in a darker story. Depending on the ending you get, he will either darken into a type 4, or will overcome his flaws and become a type 1.

3. Handsome Lech

  • Type A - generally has a good amount of sex, but sex is portrayed in a positive light
  • Type B - Closer to the type 4, but the tone of the story is light enough to keep him from being portrayed too negatively.

4. Jerk with a Heart of Gold - Somewhat unlikeable, will be the protagonist in darker works.

5. Jerkass - Very unlikable, but has enough morals to keep him from becoming a full-blown monster. Sometimes matures into a Type 3 or 4 over the course of the story. Rarely, he will become a full-blown Type 1.

6. Complete Monster - Evil in every sense of the word. Either a Villain Protagonist, or not human and subject to Blue and Orange Morality. In either case, completely devoid of morals.

These games popularized, largely through Visual Novel works, the Netorare Genre.
