Simple. It attaches itself to someone's face.

Usually Nightmare Fuel from some horror film.

May be related to Face Full of Alien Wingwong.

Examples of Face Hugger include:

Comics[]

  • The mind-control starfish of Starro the Conqueror.

Film[]

  • The xenomorphs from Alien. Many later examples are homages.

Live-Action TV[]

  • The Dream Crabs in the 2014 Doctor Who Christmas Episode, "Last Christmas". The Trope Namers are mentioned and the Doctor is horrified to hear of a horror movie called Alien.
    • Dalek creatures infrequently do this if their casing is ripped open. It doesn't ever seem to work for them.

Toys[]

Video Games[]

  • Gligar and Gliscor from Pokémon.
  • Metroids
  • Headcrabs from the Half Life saga.
  • Brainsuckers from X-COM Armageddon, which are used as ammunition by certain aliens in addition to appearing on their own.

Web Comics[]

  • In Campus Safari, Chrome's miniwhip Aurla does a good impression of one. (Played for laughs)
  • Sam Starfall pulls one of these off in an early strip of Cross Time Cafe. Hortmage finds it irritating and, maybe, disgusting.

Western Animation[]

  • The Rick and Morty episode Promortyus deconstructs the aliens, noting that living so quickly just to lay eggs leads to stunted societal growth. Summer helps them grow as a society before Rick and Morty wage a Guilt-Free Extermination War against them, razing their city.
