Fair Vote (available in PDF format or at FanFiction.Net) is a novel-length Dresden Files fanfic starring a runaway wizard apprentice. Dorje, a Tibetan by birth, goes by the name George Saga. Through... some fault of his own, Dorje gets himself involved with selkies, White Court, demonic super-lawyers, the differences between Asian magical traditions and the Western variant we've seen so much of in canon, Red Court, certain prominent underworld figures, dark wizards... and Miami politicians. In other words, shenanigans worthy of Harry Dresden himself.

• Elemental Powers: The protagonist, as an Asian magic-user, wields the Chinese elemental schema (Earth, Water, Wood, Fire and Metal) instead of the Western type seen in canon.
• Evil Mentor: Nawang, in a reasonable yet utterly freaky Well-Intentioned Extremist sort of way.
• Femme Fatale: Ava — sort of.
  • To be more exact, because of her ability to inspire True Love, along with some traces of Orange and Blue Morality, she wants people to have a good time while being unaware of the danger it poses. She herself doesn't seem to know she is a Femme Fatale. Dorje likened her to a hurricane, a force of nature: You can't stop it, but you can fear it.
• First-Person Smartass: Dorje/George is quite the wiseass, much like Harry.
• Good Is Not Nice: Ava the selkie is actually the reverse: Nice Is Not Good.
• I Know Your True Name: used several times to varying degrees of effect. "George" is understandably paranoid about it.
• Implacable Man: Isaac the White Court vampire takes multiple bullets (including one in the eye), magical fire, a car crash, wooden shrapnel (including a piece in his other eye) and a lightning bolt. He keeps on coming.
• Invisibility Cloak: technological version. Surprising that Marcone's mercenaries would use this when they (should) know full well that magic-users are Walking Techbanes.
• Lilliputians: Jeeves is roughly six inches high.
• Little Hero Big War: Dorje stumbles across a battle in the NeverNever between Red Court operatives and Council Wardens.
• Loophole Abuse: how George manages to get some elbow room within the bounds of his Magically-Binding Contract.
• Magically-Binding Contract: George gets himself trapped by one of these, administered by a literal Devil's Advocate no less.
• Mind Rape: Said almost word for word.
• Our Homunculi Are Different - "Jeeves" is tiny, quietly efficient and utterly loyal to the protagonist. This doesn't stop him from crushing on Ava. Of course, so does everyone else.
• The Power of Love: In this universe, selkies can generate affection and True Love at will — which, from a certain point of view, makes them scarier than the merely lust-inducing White Court vampires.
• Psychic Static
• Refuge in Audacity: our hero is no martial artist or physical fighter. He does however know Tai Chi and brew a mean agility potion ...
  • He battles a strike team of White Court vampires while wearing women's flip-flops. With sequins!
• Retired Badass/Retired Monster: Uncle Senge, a White Court vampire so old in fact that he actually lives in a nursing home ... and not just because it's a great place to feed on despair.
• Rules Lawyer: How the Big Bad gets around the Third Law of Magic. While it prohibits invading the mind of another, there's no rule against inviting them into yours and, since they are invited, they aren't breaking the Law either.
• Selkies and Wereseals - Ava and Elliot.
• Space Master: Dorje's shield doesn't deflect bullets, it alters local space so that the bullets hit anywhere but him. Too bad it takes him so long to get it going.
• The Speechless: Jeeves the homunculus.
• Summon Magic
• Surfer Dude - Calvin is laid-back. Like, really laid-back. Enough so that he takes being mindfucked and chi-drained by White Court vampires, killed and subsequently turned into a selkie in stride.
• Talking the Monster to Death / Villainous BSOD
• Took a Level In Badass: Kill and/or mindfuck a few of Dorje's friends and see what happens. Just try it.
• Training From Hell
• Walking Techbane: Dresdenverse magic fries technology just by existing. Dorje's magic is chirally flipped from that of most other wizards such that, instead of causing technology to fail, his aura makes it work even when it shouldn't - then overloads it.
