Fantastic Four is a 2015 superhero film that is a reboot to the Storyverse Fantastic Four film series. It was directed by Josh Trank and featured Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch, Jamie Bell as the Thing and Toby Kebbell as Doctor Doom. It was a financial and critical flop and is considered one of the worst superhero films of all time.
Tropes used in Fantastic Four (2015 film) include:
- Adaptation Name Change: Planet Zero is a new take on the comics' Negative Zone.
- Adaptational Niceness: Though the film owes very heavily to Ultimate Fantastic Four, Reed has more in common with his Earth-616 self, lacking the god complex that eventually turned Ultimate!Reed into the Maker.
- Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: The plot is kicked off because Reed, Doom and Johnny got drunk and eagerly tested out their prototype.
- Barbie Doll Anatomy: The Thing, who lacks his blue shorts are a result.
- Big Bad: Doctor Doom.
- Cain and Abel: Ben Grimm has an abusive brother who likes to yell "It's clobbering time".
- Continuity Reboot: Of the 2005 film duology.
- Darker and Edgier: The film has been described by Trank as a David Cronenberg superhero movie, which says a lot.
- Dude, Where's My Respect?: Virtually the only personality trait Doom shares with his comic self. His massive ego is convinced that the world owes him every compliment and prize for existing and being part of the science team that got the teleporter working.
- Dull Surprise: Almost all the characters are emotionless, which was a deliberate part on Trank.
- Flipping the Bird: Von Doom does this to Harvey Allen.
- Misanthrope Supreme: Victor von Doom of course. He eventually decides he'll destroy Earth and harvest it as raw materials to build his new utopia on Planet Zero.
- Movie Superheroes Wear Black: The Four's suits are an almost black shade of blue.
- Race Lift: Johnny Storm and his father are Black in this film.
- Reed Richards Is Useless: Subverted. The only reason Reed couldn't get his teleporter working was because he didn't have the funding for proper resources. When he gets that, he's able to prove his theories. Even otherwise he's shown to be quite crafty.
- Younger and Hipper: The characters are younger than they are previously portrayed.
