You've accepted a minimum wage job watching the local pizzeria, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, every night from 12 AM to 6AM. Sounds easy, right? Nope. As it turns out, when night falls, the animatronics start walking around the restaurant, and worse yet, they are out for your blood. You will have to constantly check the security cameras to see which parts of the restaurant the animatronics are currently in, and make sure to close the office's security doors to keep them out. But you only have a limited amount of power, so make sure not to use the cameras or doors too much.
Besides the killer animatronics, there was also a debacle involving someone dressing up as one of the characters to lure five children into the backstage room and killing them. These bodies were later stuffed inside the animatronics. Due to this incident, and despite any efforts to mitigate any negative pulblicity, the restaurant is slated to close by year's end.
And that is the plot for the very first Five Nights at Freddy's game. Originally released on August 8, 2014, the game quickly earned an enormous fanbase due to its simple yet immersive gameplay. Originally only available on Steam, it was later ported to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2019.
- Alone with the Psycho: A bunch of psycho animatronics, actually!
- Apocalyptic Log: Each of the calls from Phone Guy. This comes to a head during Night 4 when Phone Guy is murdered by one of the animatronics.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The reasons Mike gets fired at the end of Night 7? "Tampering with the animatronics," "general unprofessionalism," and "odor."
- Black Speech: After Phone Guy dies, you still get a phone call on Day 5. Said phone call is a garbled backwards rendition of "Autobiography of a Yogi."
- Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: The rules listed in the East Hall seem relatively normal enough (minus maybe the "Don't poop on floor" rule), but the very last one ominously reads, "Leave before dark."
- Evil Sounds Deep: Almost every time Freddy moves, he lets out a demonic-sounding, low-pitched laugh.
- Giggling Villain: Freddy laughs whenever he moves.
- Hallucinations: Mike occasionally gets these. They're either a close up of Freddy, an eyeless Bonnie head, or the words "IT'S ME."
- Hell Is That Noise:
- Nightmare Face: Sometimes, when you check the backstage room camera, Bonnie's face will be right in front of the camera, and his eyes will be pitch black with a small white dot in the middle.
- Non-Standard Game Over: If Golden Freddy appears in your office and you don't look back at the camera in time, the game will crash, forcing you to start the current night all over again.
- Noodle Incident: The Bite of '87 is never elaborated on in this game, or any subsequent games.
- Offscreen Teleportation: Most of the time, the animatronics will only move if you're not looking at the camera. The one exception is Foxy, who will actually run down the West Hall straight to the office if you don't check on Pirate Cove every now and then.
- Retirony: Phone Guy was originally going to retire the same week he got killed by an animatronic.
- Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Trailer: Foxy never makes an appearance in the trailer, seeing as he was meant to be a surprise character when the game first came out.
- Suck E. Cheese's: The pizzeria itself. Even disregarding the dead kids, there's still the problem of the lack of hygiene and the animatronics themselves being faulty.
- Toilet Humor: One of the rules listed in the East Hall is "Don't poop on floor."
- Westminster Chimes: Used to signal that you have successfully made it to 6 AM.
- You Are Already Dead:
- If you try to turn on the lights or close one of the doors on one side of the office, but the buttons are jammed, that means either Bonnie or Chica have made it into the office, and they will Jump Scare you the very next time you put your camera down.
- If you don't shut the left door quickly enough, Foxy sprinting down the halls if you either don't check Pirate Cove enough times or check it too many times can count.
