Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is celebrating its grand reopening! With this new version of the beloved family pizzeria comes redesigned versions of the old animatronic mascots, plus a couple new characters, too! Not only that, but these new designs also come equipped with special facial recognition features for enhanced security. The old animatronics are still around as well, but they're only being used for spare parts. In short, this should be a lot better than the old Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case. Despite the aforementioned facial recognition technology, the new animatronics are after your blood, and to make matters worse, the old animatronics, despite being in even worse disrepair than before, are also getting in on the action. And don't even get us started on the Puppet...

In Five Nights at Freddy's 2, you assume the role of Jeremy Fitzgerald, the new night guard, and once again have to survive until the clock strikes 6 AM. However, you don't have any doors to defend yourself from the animatronics this time, so you instead have to disguise yourself using a Freddy Fazbear mask to trick the animatronics into thinking that you're one of them, though this doesn't work on all of them. You will also need to make sure that a music box in the Prize Corner is wound up well enough throughout each night to keep the Puppet at bay, but if you don't, you better say your prayers.

The game was released on November 10, 2014, just three months after the first game. Just like its predecessor, it later received a console port for the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Tropes used in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 include:
  • Air Vent Passageway: Toy Chica, Balloon Boy, Withered Bonnie, Toy Bonnie, Withered Chica, and Mangle crawl through the vents to attack Jeremy. Endo-2 can also enter the vent but does not enter the office.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Foxy is shown to be one in-universe, likely as a Fandom Nod to his out-of-universe Ensemble Darkhorse status.
  • I Know You're Watching Me: Most of the Animatronics look straight into the camera, especially in the hallway and party rooms. In the third and fourth party rooms, Withered Freddy and Toy Bonnie will get directly in front of the camera.
  • Noodle People: The Puppet has rather long arms and legs. It's actually pretty creepy.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: In the home version and updated mobile version, when Jeremy uses the mask Toy Bonnie slides across the room directly in front of him.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: If the animatronics make it into the office, most of them will be fooled by the Freddy mask you put on. The only animatronics who aren't fooled by this are Foxy and the Puppet.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Mangle is one for Foxy in-universe, to the point where the kids would actually tear her apart and management would eventually stop bothering to repair him.
  • The Reveal: When you beat Night 5, your paycheck has the date of November 12, 1987, revealing that this game takes place before the original Five Nights at Freddy's.
  • Stealth Sequel: Inverted as the introduction of the Toy Animatronics as well as the original ones falling into decay makes it appear that this game is set after the original one. The call from the Phone Guy appears to be a continuity error until the ending paycheck reveals the game is set in 1987 aka before the original game.
  • Support Party Member: Balloon Boy can not attack Jeremy, but disables the flashlight making him vulnerable against all enemies especially Foxy.
  • Thirteen Is Unlucky: The Bite of '87, the incident mentioned in the first game, is mentioned in this game to have occurred on Friday the 13th during a birthday party.
  • You Are Already Dead
    • If Balloon Boy disables your flashlight, it is hard to defend yourself against most animatronics, but impossible to ward off Foxy.
    • If you fail to keep the music box in the Prize Corner wound up, and you suddenly start hearing "Pop Goes the Weasel," that means the Puppet is heading right for you, and there's nothing you can do to stop her.
