The movies[]
- Awesome Music: Harry Manfredini's score for the first film seems like "generic" slasher film music today thanks to Seinfeld Is Unfunny, but that's because it was arguably as memorable and inspirational as John Carpenter's Halloween theme.
- "His Eyes" from Part V: A New Beginning.
- "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)" by Alice Cooper in Part VI: Jason Lives makes the ending's The End - or Is It? scene so much cooler.
- Also, "Hard Rock Summer" from the same man in the same movie.
- Fred Mollin's score for Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan is hit-or-miss... but the jazzy piece that plays when Rennie and Sean are in Times Square is so bittersweetly beautiful it can bring tears to your eyes.
- Likewise, the music from the trailer.
- Metropolis's "The Darkest Side Of The Night", used to both open and close the film.
- Big Lipped Alligator Moment: Jason shaves the beard of one of his victims before possessing him in Jason Goes to Hell. No explanation is given.
- Obviously Jason didn't want to get tickled while forcibly squirming down the guy's throat.
- According to the two-disk DVD set His Name Was Jason, which covers the making of the series over thirty years, it was an attempt to insert a homoerotic element in a series that had a great double standard in its sexual exploitation.
- The two fight scenes in Part V: A New Beginning where Tommy beats up Eddie in the first scene and Junior in the second scenes. Surprisingly, for a person who spent the rest of his childhood in an insane asylum, he knows some pretty decent MMA-style moves. However, there is the odd question: How and when did he learn them? Was there a JKD class in the asylum he was in? Did Dan Inosanto stop by during visiting hours, or is Tommy really that crazy? Though the latter is most likely, since most media crazies like the Joker and Freddy know some fancy moves themselves; but after each of these fight scenes, despite Tommy going from "Jason Killer to "Power Ranger" (seriously, there is a Jason and Tommy in that show too), nobody ever speaks of it again. Not even in a brief scene. Hell, Pam and/or Reggie could have had a brief moment by just walking up to him and saying "Oh hi, Tommy! How's it going? Oh, by the way, how the hell did you do that?!". Finally, I know Part VI: Jason Lives was trying to stay as far away from Part V as possible, but did his ability to channel Bruce Lee all of the sudden run away in fear when Jason came back? True, Jason was stronger in that movie, but it would have at least helped Tommy put up a fight.
- Obviously Jason didn't want to get tickled while forcibly squirming down the guy's throat.
- Critical Research Failure: Jason sails a boat to the local harbor... from a lake. He sails a boat... to the ocean... from a closed body of water in the middle of a forest.
- Actually, unless it was a manmade lake, most bodies of water are connected to a larger source.
- In Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, the sewer system in New York City apparently gets flooded with toxic waste every night.
- Draco in Leather Pants: Believe it or not, it's been done to Mr. Voorhees. He has an astonishing amount of fanfiction where he falls in love with the one girl who he doesn't kill. Frequently going through Wimpification and becoming a literate mentally sound gentleman who just happens to go on mindless merciless killing sprees now and then.
- A lot of people take the Crazy Survivalist Knight Templar Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas angle and run with it.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: A few minor characters proved quite popular among fans. Some examples would be Crazy Ralph from Parts 1 and 2, and Violet from Part V: A New Beginning.
- Ginny Field, who is lauded as one of the best Final Girls, not just in the franchise but also horror movies in general.
- Shelly Finkelstein, for being incredibly funny and giving Jason his iconic hockey mask.
- Jimbo, for being so darn lovable. Doesn't hurt that he's played by Crispin Glover.
- Teddy, for being Heterosexual Life Partners with Jimbo and being comic relief.
- Reggie, for not being a useless, annoying kid.
- Demon and his girlfriend Anita, for their cute interactions and heartwarming bonding scene when Reggie comes to visit.
- Roy Burns, for those who don't see him as a Replacement Scrappy for Jason.
- Sheriff Garris, for beating down Jason and his Heroic Sacrifice to save his daughter.
- Martin the Gravedigger, for his memorable Breaking the Fourth Wall moment and hilarious Meta Humor.
- Tina Shepard, for being one of the few people capable of kicking Jason's ass.
- Julius Gaw, for being such an amusing badass and having one of the best deaths in the franchise.
- Tamara, for having laughably over-the-top schemes and being an entertaining Alpha Bitch.
- Eva Watanabe, who many people wished had been the Final Girl instead of Rennie. Helps that she's also played by Kelly Hu.
- Dr. McCulloch, for being Genre Savvy in his own Jerkass way. Also, because of him bringing life to the film's midsection.
- Sgt. Brodski, for being badass and killing Jason off for good.
- Janessa, for being a hilarious Deadpan Snarker.
- Gibb, who's played by popular scream queen Katharine Isabelle.
- Freeburg, for his hilarious one-liners and being an Expy of Jay from Clerks.
- Richie, for being such a Nice Guy and having some genuinely funny moments.
- Chewie, for being super-likable and having a memorable death.
- Jenna, who many people wished was actually the Final Girl and not a Decoy Protagonist.
- Bree, for being Ms. Fanservice.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Shavar Ross, who plays Reggie (who becomes orphaned, you couldn't guess how!) in Part V, went to play an orphan called Reggie in the pilot episode of MacGyver.
- In Part VIII, Jason (played by Kane Hodder) chases the protagonists into a diner, where a huge chef tries to stop him and gets thrown across the room for his trouble. The actor playing that huge chef? Ken Kirzinger, a stuntman who would later replace Kane Hodder as Jason in Freddy vs. Jason.
- It Was His Sled: The killer of the original film is probably known to most people who are familiar with the series. Though to those unfamiliar with the series, they still might be surprised to see Jason's lack of appearances.
- Most Wonderful Sound: Jason's leitmotif.
- Maddy's amazing scream in Part VII: The New Blood.
- Narm: Part III's disco theme falls somewhere between this and Narm Charm.
- "He had a knife, and he attacked me with it!!!"
- Crispin Glover's dance scene in The Final Chapter.
- Rob's death:
"He's killing me! Oh god, he's killing me!" |
- Safe to say the narm was intentional after the fifth film. At least until the remake.
- Interestingly, averted with the death scenes in Part V: A New Beginning, which can verge on disturbingly realistic. Especially Robin's death rattle.
- Narm Charm: Arguably, the majority of Jason X, if not the series as a whole.
- Nightmare Fuel: Wouldn't be Friday the 13th without it.
- The infamous Jump Scare ending in Part I.
- Jack's death also qualifies.
- Mark's death in Part II.
- Jeff and Sandra getting impaled with a spear whilst having sex.
- The ending has another Jump Scare, this time with an unmasked Jason jumping through a window to grab Ginny.
- Jason shooting Vera in the eye with a speargun in Part III.
- Andy getting chopped in half by Jason with a machete whilst minding his own business.
- Jason crushing Rick's skull with his bare hands, to the point where one of Rick's eyeballs pops out.
- Jason's death in The Final Chapter.
- Jason slitting Axel's throat with a bonesaw before turning the latter's head around 180 degrees.
- Eddie getting his skull crushed with a belt in Part V: A New Beginning.
- Vic killing Joey with an axe to the spine, just because he got on his nerves.
- Jason ripping Sissy's head off in Part VI: Jason Lives.
- Jason's Nightmare Face after Tina destroys his mask in Part VII: The New Blood.
- The flashback showing Jason attacking Rennie underwater in Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.
- Jason killing a guy with a red-hot sauna rock through the chest.
- What happens to Jason's victims after he leaves from their bodies in Jason Goes to Hell.
- Jason smashing Adrienne's head to pieces after dipping her in a tub full of liquid nitrogen in Jason X.
- Trey's brutal death in Freddy vs. Jason.
- Jason's rampage at the stoner rave.
- Jason burning Amanda alive in a sleeping bag in the 2009 reboot.
- The infamous Jump Scare ending in Part I.
- The Scrappy: Rennie, who's derided as one of the worst Final Girls in the series.
- Rick, for being incredibly whiny and adding virtually nothing to the plot.
- Dr. Crews, for being a massive Jerkass and a Manipulative Bastard who tries to gaslight Tina into thinking she's going crazy. Nobody mourned when Jason sliced him up with a weed whacker.
- Sean, for his Lack of Empathy.
- Trey, for being a Bastard Boyfriend towards Gibb.
- Will, thanks to Jason Ritter's horrible acting.
- Donnie, for being a creepy pervert and an all-around asshole. Doesn't help that he's a Replacement Scrappy for Shelly Finkelstein.
- Whitney, mainly because she survived instead of Jenna.
- Nightmare Suppressant: Jason has become one over the years.
- Kind of ironic, really. Think about it: if, in Real Life, you found yourself being pursued by a relentless, pissed-off, virtually indestructible mass murderer who was built like a pro athlete and wanted nothing more than to bury a machete in your head, wouldn't you be just a little bit scared?
- Rooting for the Empire: With protagonists like these, who wouldn't want Jason to kill them all off?
- Sequelitis: Oh my.
- Squick: Jason tries to possess the body of his baby grand-niece in Jason Goes to Hell.
- When that fails, he possesses his dead sister instead... through her private parts.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks: A New Beginning, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, and Jason X are often victims of this.
- It's the Same, Now It Sucks: And a few others are seen in this light by some.
The NES video game[]
- Awesome Music: The game isn't really good. And its music is nothing to write home about. But then OverClocked Remix contributor Ghetto Lee Lewis got his hands on it. Let the results speak for itself (the sound samples contain spoilers for the first movie, though).
- Paranoia Fuel: Jason could occasionally show up unannounced inside one of the cabins that you were investigating for items and notes. And once you're inside with him, you're locked in until you face him.
- The Problem with Licensed Games: Just ask The Angry Video Game Nerd.
