In the end, I'm always like this. Whether I get involved with people or not, before I know it, I've done something wrong and made someone upset. I'm even disappointing myself. How many more times do I have to let myself down for this to stop?!
—-- Sawa Mitoma, The Protagonist of the series.

Fruits Basket Another (フルーツバスケット another, Furūtsu Basuketto anazā), also abbreviated as Furubana (フルバナ), is the sequel to the Fruits Basket manga series, written by the original series' author and illustrator, Natsuki Takaya. It ran online (on the HanaLala online site and then the Hakusensha Manga Park app) and then in paper (in three tomes) through 2015. There are some new chapters slated for release later, too.
Sawa Mitoma, the protagonist, is a first year highschool student whose parents are divorced, and has been raised by her Workaholic mother. She's been badly treated by her peers, and her mother hasn't really been a lot of help; due to that, she genuinely dislikes herself and believes that she's a bother. In her first day as a student in Kaibara High School, she gets in trouble with the school principal (Makoto Takei from the original series), but she's saved by the student council vice-president Mutsuki. He invites her to the council room so they can chat, and when she goes there she meets the actual Student Council President, an older boy named Hajime. . . via stepping on him when he's napping.
After all of this mess, Sawa pretty much runs away. The next day, however, Mutsuki and Hajime show up to help her against her nagging landlord and give her her student ID, which she lost yesterday. Soon the two boys then make her a member of the council itself (plus she becomes the Class Representative), and as days pass she finds out who exactly they are: they're cousins, and also two of the younger members of the very rich and powerful Sohma clan. And unsurprisingly to the audience, Mutsuki turns out to be the son of Yuki Sohma and Machi Kuragi, while Hajime is the eldest son of Kyou Sohma and Tohru Honda.
They're not alone, however. Their own cousins (Riku, Sora, Shiki, Hibika, Mina, Chizuru and Kinu Sohma) and other people at school (Michi Manabe, Rio Musuka, Mio Hasegawa, Ruriko Kageyama, Mitou and Amane, Chiaki Hasada...) are also parts of this new environment, and Sawa finds herself pulled into their dynamics. And little by little, Sawa begins to bond with this new Sohma generation, which is free from the Sohma curse that near ruined the lives of their parents but still has to deal with the consequences...
This page is in constant construction, please be patient and help fill it! ALSO, there will be UNMARKED SPOILERS regarding the original Fruits Basket series!!!
- Abusive Parents: Sawa's mother is a beautiful businesswoman who rarely if ever is at home (and at least once she's said to be out with a boyfriend rather than working), seems to barely leave her money for her expenses if not around, and when she IS there she verbally abuses Sawa via offering zero support regarding her self-esteem problems AND looking down on her. She also has the nasty habit of not getting along with the families of Sawa's friends, which is why she was harassed at school as a child. And when Sawa had an accident and was saved by Shiki and Shigure Sohma, she apparently tried to blame the accident on them to get money from the Sohma clan - meaning she cared more for personal gain than Sawa's well-being.
- The now damn crazy Ren is an abusive grandparent to Akito and Shigure's son Shiki. At some point she snaps on the boy and tries to stab him, but Akito shields him.
- Affectionate Nickname: "Sawacchi ~ !"
- All of the Other Reindeer: Sawa and Shiki.
- Broken Bird: Sawa
- Call Back: Kinu, Hajime and Mutsuki's house? The same traditional one where Tohru lived with Kyo, Yuki and Shigure.
- The Sohma cottage from the first series also makes its return, though now the Sohmas can freely bring their friends. Sawa, Ruriko, Rio, Chiaki and Mio have been there.
- Class Representative: Sawa becomes her class' rep when she joins the student council.
- Cool Big Sis: Michi Manabe, to Sawa and her little brother Kou.
- Kinu Sohma, the college-aged daughter of Mayuko and Hatori, is this to her cousins and roommates Mutsuki and Hajime.
- Cranky Landlord: The Mitomas' landlord ends up nagging and complaining at Sawa because her mother's late with rent, and this is why she's Late for School at her first day in Kaibara. Luckily, when he tries it again the next day Mutsuki and Hajime show up and interrupt him.
- Expy: Sawa is basically what Tohru would have been, had she been raised by a non-supportive parent.
- Fan Girl: Ruriko, like her mother Motoko, is a big Sohma fan. Unlike her mom, who focused solely on Yuki, she fangirls all the Sohmas that she knows without distinction... which lets her be closer to them than Motoko ever was; i.e., she and Mutsuki get along very well.
- First Girl After All: A flashback shows that a tiny Sawa once suffered a serious accident in the snow and an unknown boy (and his dad) tended to her until the ambulance arrived. The boy is Shiki Sohma (and his dad is Shigure); he and Sawa have now a good chance to be each other's Love Interests.
- Genki Girl: Sora, Hibika and Michi
- Half-Identical Twins: Averted by Sora and Riku, who not only are complete opposites personality-wise but look VERY different.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Like Tohru, Sawa has a super low self-esteem. Unlike Tohru, she doesn't hide it behind a smile.
- Honest Corporate Executive: The adult Momiji has become one like his father. His daughter Mina wants to follow in their footsteps and be one as well.
- Hot Teacher: One of the Kaibara teachers is very handsome. He's the adult Megumi Hanajima.
- Large Ham: Ruriko Kageyama and a certain teacher, Makoto Takei. When they meet up...
- Locked Out of the Loop: Averted, the grown-up Momo Sohma now knows about her big brother Momiji and their relation - implying that the whole deal with their unstable mom was at least partially solved. She even takes care of her niece Mina!
- Lovable Alpha Bitch: Ruriko is just as bombastic and Sohma-obsessed as her mother (Motoko Minagawa from the original series) was at her age. But not as bitchy, since she's kinda tsundere to Sawa and actually fangirls all of the Sohmas.
- Mama Bear: Akito protected Shiki from Ren via shielding him when his crazypants grandma tried to stab him.
- Odd Friendship: According to Word of God, Akito (of all people) has established one with none other than Mine Kuramae (Ayame's cheery wife and assistant/associate) and Saki Hanajima (Tohru's Strange Girl best friend). To be fair, the part with Saki comes from the original manga and the second anime; the two (plus Arisa) got along surprisingly well when they met after Tohru's accident and Akito's Heel-Face Turn.
- Plucky Girl: Ruriko is described as one, since Hajime says she has "an undying optimism"
- Mina Sohma, too.
- She Is All Grown Up: Momo Sohma, Hinata Sohma and Megumi Hanajima appeared as kids in the original. Now they're very cute-looking young adults.
- Ship Sinking: No, Kazuma is neither Saki's husband nor Rio's father. It's only known that Saki's actual spouse, Mr. Mosuka, is a foreigner and apparently a very good chef.
- Also, the fact that Ruriko's surname is "Kageyama" and not "Sakuragi" means that Naohito's crush on Motoko was never reciprocated.
- Student Council President: Hajime, with Mutsuki as vice-president.
- Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: Sawa was bullied as a little girl by kids who isolated her and told her she was annoying to her very face. This and the lack of support from her abusive mother are why she's a huge Nervous Wreck. It seems it's because Mrs. Mitoma was very unpleasant towards said kids' parents, leading them to hate Sawa per proxy.
- Strong Family Resemblance: The Sohma kids strongly resemble their parents:
- Mutsuki is a younger, more genuinely sociable Yuki, with some sprinkles of his mother Machi.
- Hajime is an aloof, yet better-adjusted Kyo. His unnamed younger brother resembles Kyo, too. The last scene of the original FB series states that Hajime's little bro will someday marry and have a daughter, and the little girl looks a LOT like both her Hot Mom and her grandmother Tohru.
- Hibika looks like her mother Mine, but with her father Ayame's personality. Her brother Chizuru resembles his father and paternal uncle instead.
- Kinu resembles her dad Hatori personality and looks-wise, but has her mother Mayuko's hair.
- Shiki looks a LOT like Akito, his mother. With some sprinkles of his father, Shigure.
- Sora is a more cheerful version of her mother Isuzu, while Riku is basically his father Hatsuharu with smoother hair and a bit of Isuzu's "gruff but deep down kind" attitude.
- Momiji's daughter Mina resembles both her dad and her Cool Aunt Momo.
- Hinata Sohma has grown to look quite a bit like her mother Satsuki.
- There's a brief shot of Kagura's unnamed son, and he seems to be a boy version of his mother.
- Non-Sohma examples: Rio Mosuca is a genderflipped version of his mother Saki Hanajima, whereas Michi Manabe is a genderflipped Kakeru with her mother Komaki's eyes. Plus Ruriko Kageyama is a younger version of her mom Motoko Minagawa, and it shows.
- Those Two Girls: Amane and Mito
- Zettai Ryouiki: Ruriko, not unlike Motoko.
