Sports and comics came together like peanut butter and jelly in New York with Gallo's Humor. Created by Bill Gallo (1922-2011) of the New York Daily News, Gallo's Humor is a series of one-panel comics that poked fun and reflected on the triumphs and tragedies of the sports world, more specifically New York City Sports. Most of the characters of the comics are well known sports figures, who's accomplishments and controversies become satirized. Bill Gallo had some original characters of his own like Basement Bertha and Yuchie, who represented the everyday New Yorker rooting for their home team, sometimes the underdog.

Not to be confused with Gallows Humor.

Tropes used in Gallo's Humor include:
  • Baseball Episode
  • Big Game -- Whenever a New York team makes it to a national championship.
  • Fan of Underdog -- Basement Bertha, more specifically when it comes to the New York Mets.
  • Hurricane of Puns -- Bill Gallo would make a single strip filled with sports puns, poking fun at New York's athletes.
  • Those Wacky Nazis -- General Von Steingrabber, a parody of New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, dressed as a Nazi general complete with the pointy helmet.
    • Point of order: that's more WWI German Empire than Nazi; Nazis didn't wear pointy helmets.
