Basic Trope: An absent father returns to his children and is accepted by them.

• Played Straight: Alice and Bob have a one-night stand and Alice becomes pregnant. Years later Bob comes back to his family and his daughter Claire accepts him as her father without hesitation.
• Exaggerated: Bob has several children, by several different women, whom he never again contacts or pays child support money to. That is until he goes on a visitation spree and each of the children let him back into their lives as if he raised them from birth.
• Inverted: Claire's once loving father abandons her and she waves him off with a shrug.
• Justified: Daddy Had a Good Reason For Abandoning You, and Claire understands.
• Subverted: Claire looks like she is ready to call Bob her dad, only to reject him.
• Double Subverted: Claire regrets rejecting Bob and lets him back into her life.
• Deconstructed: Claire is to eager to let Bob back into her life to fill the void he left, and ignores some flaws in his character.
• Reconstructed: Claire is initially skeptical of Bob, and only lets him into her life after he proves himself.
• Parodied: Bob comes back home after many years with a flimsy excuse, one that Claire accepts with no problem, jumping into his arms as her loving father.
