Gormiti

Gormiti is an Italian toyline created in 2005 by Giochi Preziosi. It was intended for children around 7-10 years old, but still managed to find some popularity even among older fans. It had a lot of success and was exported all over the world, especially in Spain.

The story takes place in the fictional Island of Gorm, populated by peaceful creatures called Gormiti (sing. Gormite) and protected by the mysterious Old Sage. But one day, the evil sorcerer Magor awakened from his century-long slumber in Fire Mountain and created a group of evil, murderous Gormiti of Lava and Magma, who stormed upon Gorm and razed it mercilessly. The Old Sage, powerless to do anything to stop Magor and his minions Lavion and Magmion, was forced to run away... but not before creating a new artifact, the Eye of Life, with which to repopulate the Island of Gorm when the time would be right. The Lava and Magma Gormiti, in their greed, ended up plundering so much that what was left was not enough to sustain them, and were forced to go back to Mount Volcano and wait until the island had recovered enough... and that was when the Old Sage returned, giving birth to new Gormiti thanks to the Eye of Life. New tribes arose - the Gormiti of Air, Forest, Earth and Sea - and joined forces to fight against Magmion and Lavion, eventually managing to defeat the Lava and Magma Gormiti and seal them. But a wrathful Magor, in revenge, cursed the Gormiti into fighting each other for power and supremacy, ending the peace on Gorm...

A cartoon series inspired by this toyline, Gormiti: The Lords of Nature Return!, was created by Marathon Media in 2009. Another cartoon series, Gormiti: Nature Unleashed, premiered in 2012, with no relation to the events of the former.

A reboot of the franchise, with a new storyline and concept, was launched in 2018.

This toyline provides examples of:

• Always Chaotic Evil: All Volcano and Darkness Gormiti. Justified in that Magor and Obscurio created them.
• Big Bad: Magor, Obscurio.
• Big Good: The Old Sage, The Supreme Luminescent.
• Dark Is Evil
• Defector From Decadence: Silent Hawk, of the Air Tribe. At first, he had more of a My Country, Right or Wrong attitude, but in the end, Magor's cruelty became too much for him to bear.
• Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Avoided. No tribe has a definite advantage over the others.
• Evil Sorcerer: Magor.
• Face Heel Turn: Halfway between the first and second series, The Air Tribe falls for Deepdownfear's manipulations and joins Magor.
• Fragile Speedster: Most Air Gormiti are like this.
• Lethal Lava Land: Mount Volcano.
• Magma Man: The Volcano Gormiti.
• Manipulative Bastard: Deepdownfear.
• Mighty Glacier: Most Earth Gormiti.
• My Country, Right or Wrong: The Bloody Dark One of the Air Tribe. His best friend Silent Hawk was also like this at first.
• Names to Run Away From Really Fast: A lot of Gormiti, even good-aligned ones, have some pretty intimidating names.
• Noble Demon: Obscurio. Make no mistake, he is evil... but he's got far more honor than Magor.
• The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Obscurio's attitude towards the Supreme Luminescent.
