Gundam 00 Sidestories

As with most Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 has a number of sidestories that complement the main series. These sidestories are designed to flesh out the world of Gundam 00, and give insight into the histories of various characters, Celestial Being and the mobile suits themselves. As of 2010, there are 7 side stories, which can be divided into the following:

• 2007-2009 (alongside the airing of both seasons of Gundam 00 and in between):
  • Gundam 00P - A Photonovel that acted as a Prequel to the series that was serialised in the Dengeki Hobby Magazine. Like the main TV series, it was split into two seasons that ran alongside each season of the main show. Season 1 was set in 2292, 15 years before the TV series, and followed four second generation Gundam Meisters during the development of the second generation Gundams (prototypes of the third generation Gundams seen in season 1 of the series). Season 2 was set 10 years before the series, and introduces two new characters who are assigned to find new meisters for the third generation Gundams being developed.

• • Gundam 00F - A manga serialised in Gundam Ace, this took place during Season 1 of Gundam 00, and follows a second secret team of Celestial Being called Fereshte that supports the main team's interventions from the shadows, using the prototype Gundams from Gundam 00P with their only Gundam Meister, Fon Spark. It also featured cameos (and fairly major roles in one chapter) from characters in the main show. So far this is the only 00 sidestory to be released in the west.

• • Gundam 00V - Serialised in Hobby Japan, this shows variations of designs seen in the TV show from the view of a scientist, Robert Spacey, albeit some point in the future, remembering himself as a ordinary young Mobile Suit engineers, often lucky enough to catch the Gundams using different equipment, and eventually caught up in the conspiracy of the latter half of the first season.

• 2010-??? (In the run up to the Movie):
  • Gundam 00N - Serialised in the Dengeki Hobby Magazine, this Photonovel takes the form of various reports and articles from 2307-12 about Mobile Suits or major events from the series.

• • Gundam 00I - A Manga serialised in Gundam Ace, this takes place during Season 2, and follows Leif Recitativo, an Innovade who must gather others like himself. The manga also acts as a sequel to both Gundam 00F and the 00P, exploring what has happpened to those characters. This also contains cameos from the main 00 characters, most notably Ribbons Almark, who appears to be orchaestrating events in this manga, alongside being the Big Bad of the main show.
    • Gundam 00I 2314 - A sequel to Gundam 00I and a sidestory to the film. It follows Gundam Meisters Leonard Fiennes and Delphine Bedelia (two HRL Super Soldiers previously seen in 00P) as part of a revived Fereshte, using Season 2 Gundam Variations seen in 00V.

• • Gundam 00V Senki - Serialised in Hobby Japan, this is effectively the same as 00V, but with new designs, and rather than taking place from the view of Robert Spacy, this is the story of actual events mentioned in 00V, featuring Setsuna and co. as well as other characters from the 00 side stories. The stories take place between 2307-12 but a few have also taken place after both seasons, setting up the situation of Celestial Being for The Movie.

• Alliterative Name - Ruido
• All Love Is Unrequited - Implied with Chall.
• Battle Couple - Ruido and Marlene.
• BFG - Gundam Astrea's GN launcher.
• Big Bad - Beside Pain, though he's really just The Dragon to the Big Bad of animate series.
• Blond Brunette Redhead - Marlene, Chall and Ruido respectively.
• Broken Bird - Chall in Season 2 and later Hixar
• Emotionless Girl - Gundam Meister 874.
• I Want My Beloved to Be Happy - Chall to Ruido and Marlene.
• I Was Quite a Looker - Ian Vashti and Joyce Moreno.
• Not So Stoic - In last chapter, Beside lost his coolness when found that Grave is still alive.
• Prequel - To the main series. With P stand for "Past", according to Word of God.
• Those Two Guys - Ian Vashti and Dr. Moreno.

• Ax Crazy - Fon Spark full stop.
• Crazy Awesome - Fon Spark, as pictured above.
• Catgirl - For some odd reason, Hanayo and later Hanaya
• Colony Drop - It was originally a proposal that Fon submitted when he was with a terrorist group. Later on, he essentially fakes one by pretending to plan to drop a bunch of resource satellites onto Earth only to instead blow them up, using the resulting dust cloud to cut off the solar power generation system from the sunlight, which allowed him to actually track the flow of power and locate Veda's terminal. Too bad Ribbons had already deactivated it.
• Curb Stomp Battle - Anytime Fon gets into a fight after the Trans-Am system, most noticebly when he is fighting four 2nd Gen Gundams installed with Tau Drives, he defeats them in a double page spread.
• Dark and Troubled Past - Chall, due to the events that occured at the end of Gundam 00P Season 1.
• Dark-Skinned Blond - Fon, and Sherylin
• Even Evil Has Standards - Fon is a person who take pleasure at killing people. Yet he disgust at Ribbons's attitude of treating people as mere tools.
  • It's implied that this trope applies to Fon himself, who got himself kicked out of multiple terrorist groups for being way too violent for their tastes. Suggesting that they perform a Colony Drop on Earth apparently go over well.
• Evil Laugh- Fon, again.
• Heroic Sociopath- Fon
• Meaningful Name - Hanayo. She is Gundam Meister 874, and if one were to look at the first two letters of each number in Japanese, you'd get Ha Na Yo.
• Rei Ayanami Expy - Hanayo, she eventually grow out of this trope.
• Token Evil Teammate - Fon

Tropes used in 00V

• Butt Monkey - Amy "Steel Cowboy" Zimbalist
  • In Cherudim SAGA's profile, he put some good fight but everytime he though he got attacking chance, Cherudim simply pull another gun out (and Cherudim SAGA has seven guns) and his MS eventually run out of power.
  • Ahead Long Tail's profile, he spend whole week in futile mission to seek Celestial Being's secret base. It's end with him forced to use beam cannon to protect himself from approaching asteroid, leaving his MS powerless and can do nothing but sending rescue signal and wait for help.
• Foreshadowing - 00V would often give hints about mecha in the second season of the main series.
• Supporting Protagonist - Robert Spacey is a historian, never pilot a MS himself.

Tropes used in 00N

• Documentary - 00N is done in the style of a report, that sheds light on Characters, Mobile Suits and Events that were seen in the series. It has also introduced a number of MSVs.
• Fourth Wall Psych - The Aero Flag profile. The formal report end it with note that the MS was used by Joshua Edwards, who got appraised that he might be even greater pilot than Graham Aker. Then there is handwriting say “But, there’s no doubt that he’d fall behind Patrick Colasour!”.

Tropes used in 00I

• Epic Flail - Gundam Astrea Type F's GN hammer.
• Grand Theft Me - It's turn out that Beside Pain has his personality data backed up in 1 Gundam's system. So when Leif board it, he can takeover his body.
• She Is All Grown Up - Sherylin Hyde
• Weak but Skilled - Remember the Garazzo from TV series? Fon beats three of that thing, using replica of his old Gundam Astrea Type F.

Tropes used in 00V Senki

• Anachronic Order - The first Chapter takes place some point after season 2 in 2313. The second is in 2307...you get the idea.
• Merchandise-Driven - Whilst earlier chapters either expanded on events mentioned in 00V, or filled the gap between the 2nd Season and the Movie, later chapters have became directly related to the 00 model release of that month (which to be fair, were Sidestory related MS for a few months in a row). But given this is Bandai we are talking about...
