Eriko is disgusted with her daily life in her coed junior high, and so she sees her admittance into a prestigious all-girls high school with a mix of delight and hope, believing that'll allow her to enter a world of dignity, order, cleanliness and beauty.
Oh, how wrong she is.
High School Girls (also known as Girls' High, and originally titled Joshikousei) is a Manga about a group of normal, average high school girls and the dilemmas they face involving teachers, boys and themselves. Featuring nice drawings, abundant raunchy humor and some nice lessons about life, was adapted into a Twelve-Episode Anime series in 2006. One of the most disturbing facts about this series is that the original manga was closely based on the author's experiences going to an all-girls school, so go figure.
This series shows examples of:[]
- Accidental Pervert: Hottie Odagiri.
- Alpha Bitch: Mari Saionji, an occasional recurring character.
- Anime Hair: Ayano has green hair, two of the characters have blonde hair, two of the other characters have purple/dark purple hair.
- Attention Whore: Kouda, which is Played for Laughs.
- Balloon Belly: Yuma in Ep. 8.
- Berserk Button: The normally mild Himeji is pissed when some sleazy guy tries messing with Ogawa, to the extent that she punches her boyfriend when she learns he helped arrange the whole thing.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Momoka, oh so much.
- Butt Monkey: Ayano is usually on the receiving end of physical slapstick from Yuma and sometimes Kouda, mostly for being annoying.
- If something embarrassing happens to one of the girls, it's probably going to be Eriko.
- Chaste Teens: Averted.
- Circle of Friendship
- Class Representative: Eriko and Kouda are forced to be class rep and vice class rep respectively.
- Curtains Match the Window: Eriko has brown hair and eyes.
- Cosplay Otaku Girl: Akari Kouda, primarily in the anime. Her costumes are usually very tacky and absurd.
- Dancing Theme: The Ending Theme, with the girls dancing just for fun in front of the camera.
- Dropped Glasses: Parodied with Ayano.
- Erotic Eating: In Ep. 4, the "Field Day" episode.
"Next event, the Banana-Eating Race!" |
- Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs: To name a few, Yuma's bunches, Ogawa's pigtails, Kouda's headband, Ayano's braids, Himeji's bunches. Eriko is the only one who almost always wears it down.
- Exposition Haircut: Momoka.
- Fan Girl: Some of their classmates.
- Festival Episode
- Hot for Student: There are a few scenes with Eriko and her teacher, Odagiri, that end up being a little too awkward for the both of them.
- Genius Ditz: Eriko.
- Genki Girl: Eriko, again.
- Ogawa sometimes qualifies.
- Informed Attractiveness: For some reason, a lot of characters comment on how pretty and cute-looking Momoka is, despite her having a pretty similar character design to everyone else.
- Joshikousei: Everyone.
- Karaoke Box: Used for a date in one episode, also the location where Ayano meets Shimotakatani.
- Parodied, or something. While Yuma sings the opening theme, Akari raps the stations along the Tōbu Tōjō Line (in order!) and Eriko recites pi to 100 digits.
- Love Hotel: Ogawa is lured into one, but nothing actually happens. She ends up putting her would-be assaulter to sleep. Shimotakatani ends up exposing more of himself than he probably wanted to. Poor guy had his clothes torn off by three of the girls. It's played for laughs.
- Manipulative Bastard: Momoka, who after meeting her sister Yuma's friends, started spreading rumours that Ayano was cheating on Shimotakatani, in order to try and break up the friendship group, all just because she's jealous of not having any female friends herself.
- Measuring Day
- Meganekko: Ayano.
- No Periods, Period: Averted. For example, Auntie Flo calls on Yuma at critical moments in two episodes of the anime.
- Older Than They Look: Ogawa is one of the older students, but looks younger than the freshmen.
- One-Gender School
- Panty Shot: Constantly.
- Running Gag: Kouda appearing in a ridiculously tacky, over-the-top costume, only to reappear in normal clothes a second later. Also, Himeji looking like Ogawa's mother.
- Schoolgirl Lesbians: Used for comedy purposes.
- Schoolgirl Series
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Hottie Odagiri and Eriko.
- Sickeningly Sweethearts: Ayano and Shimotakatani.
- Temporary Love Interest: Himeji and her numerous boyfriends.
- Theme Tune Cameo: Yuma sings the opening theme at the Karaoke Box.
- The Unpronounceable: Shimotakatani, Ayano's boyfriend.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Yuma and Ayano.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Eriko and Yuma used to hate each other, now they're pretty much inseperable.
