>OBSERVE COLLECTION OF ESTABLISHED SICK BEATS

Homestuck's music is associated with and released by a small record label, called What Pumpkin (named after a popular Running Gag / meme from MS Paint Adventures as a whole). This small group of musicians has created a vast variety of original music in myriad genres and styles, and a similarly large variety of remixes and covers of both their own tracks and external ones, to the point that there is more than enough music to provide leitmotifs for everyone and everything in Homestuck.

By and large, the first several albums are composed entirely of music that has been used in the comic, but as the comic has gone on, the artists simply churn out more music than Andrew Hussie could ever possibly use, much to the benefit of the readers. As such, music on this page falls into one of three categories:

  • Numbered Volumes: Contain most of the music used in the comic, and pertain most closely to the events of the story.
  • Side Projects: Often explore groups or material running parallel to the story. At least 2 have been "composed" by characters in the comic itself.
  • Solo Albums: Beginning with the release of Strife [1], Andrew has decided to showcase the talents of the individuals of the music team by giving them all a chance to perform solo. Typically, these albums explore genres not normally done on the team albums, and play around with the format more. These albums typically have music that does not appear in the comic at all.

Work is currently underway for Homestuck tracks to be available on the Rock Band Network; the first batch of songs to appear is expected to include Sunslammer and Dance of Thorns.

The fans have also not been idle, and have made their own musical contributions.

Gushing about this stuff, of course, goes on the associated Awesome Music page. However, it is of note that the Homestuck label is perhaps the most successful label on Bandcamp, and while Bandcamp does not release direct statistics, many of the Homestuck albums are top sellers long after their releases.

Artists on the music team with their own pages:

The What Pumpkin music label is on the following albums:[]

Alternia[]

  • Alternia is the seventh official album. It is a solo album by Toby "Radiation" Fox, composed specifically with the trolls in mind, and is the first of the solo albums. It was released less than halfway through the Hivebent story arc of Homestuck, so it contains some themes that fit less than perfectly with the trolls they were intended to evoke. It also contains six bonus tracks[5], which are not listed as official because they are largely incomplete, inappropriate entirely for the characters, or remixes. It was released on July 18, 2010. It's primarily composed of Hard Rock songs, focusing on the original main cast of the kids, and interspersing each of their songs with their signature instrument. Notably, unlike most of the songs on this page, Tensei actually played and recorded all of the guitars and bass guitars on the album, rather than using samples. It was released February 16, 2011. It contains:

It was released for Homestuck's second anniversary, albeit a little late on April 14, 2011. It contains:

Volume 7: At the Price of Oblivion[]

It focuses on the planets of Derse and Prospit, themed roughly around the four kids exploring the two planets. It is split between two genres, the first half of the album being upbeat classical pieces while the later half is more dark electrical. The tracks are mostly played with the instruments associated with the kids[14]. It consists of eight tracks, the first four applying to Prospit and the latter four to Derse [15].

Song of Skaia[]

  • Song of Skaia is the twentieth official album and ninth solo album, released January 1, 2012. It is a solo single release by Mark Hadley (with vocals and lyrics by Tarien Ainuvë), and the shortest Homestuck album, with only 3 tracks. It is mainly based on a previous song of Hadley's, 'Skies of Skaia', from Volume One.

Colours and Mayhem[]

  • coloUrs and mayhem is actually two releases, the twenty-first and twenty-second official releases respectively. They are the results of a fan music contest and therefore all songs are from musicians not associated with the Music Team. However, many songs were renamed and some were reassigned to different characters. Because so many songs were selected, it is split into two albums, subtitled Universe A and Universe B. Universe A is primarily ambient and orchestral songs, while Universe B is more energetic and lively. Both albums also display heavy influences of rock, chiptune, and electronic music. They are mostly composed of original songs, though Universe B does include several remixes.
    • Universe A was released on April 2, 2012. It focuses on the Troll Session and Alternia and consists of 32 tracks [19].
    • Universe B was released on April 13th, 2012, for Homestuck's third anniversary. It focuses primarily on characters from the Human Sessions. It consists of 32 songs.

Unnamed Album[]

  • This unnamed album is a future album, believed to be the twenty-third official album, apparently focusing on music of the Post-Scratch Session and Act 6. It has 3 known songs, though the album has been referred to as large. Based on the songs known to be in it, it seems to be Volume 9. It however is some time from release.

> Go Back

  1. Alternia was also a solo album, but it doesn't fit in with the pattern of the others, being priced at $6.12, and the themes are recurring
  2. originally released on August 19 2009, December 14 2009, December 15 2009, and April 13 2010 respectively
  3. Previously called "Dave Fucking Owns At This Game". The drumline in this song has become a major leitmotif of Homestuck.
  4. it used to have 71, but someone was caught accidentally plagiarizing a song and had their submissions removed
  5. The last three songs are bonuses with the purchase of the album while the first three are still part of the album
  6. remixed to not be entirely in Mario Paint
  7. Interestingly, the entire album was spawned from this brief snippet and composed over the summer of 2010
  8. The song originated as a Final Boss composition for a Halloween-themed Game Mod of Earthbound that Radiation did years before Homestuck.
  9. As of the latest album, this is the cheapest album at only $.16 per track.
  10. The Japanese lyrics are "Toki no hime wa inu wo tometa" which translates to "The Princess of Time has stopped the dog"
  11. Translation: King of the Twelve Angels
  12. The intro features excerpts from "Terezi Owns", "Cascade", a Cut Song titled "The King In Red", and "Black Rose / Green Sun".
  13. To quote the Bandcamp site: "Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido, agents of Prospit and Derse. They once fought on the battlefield as their respective nemeses, only to be united by a common epiphany - the truth behind the Ultimate Riddle. Gazing upon the Skaian clouds, the secrets of the past, present, and future are now well guarded by these strange sentinels who spread enlightenment through their cryptic music and dance. Together, they hope their songs may be a beacon to all those who undertake the Riddle". However according to Andrew's newspost, it is about a separate session and doesn't correspond to the events in the story.
  14. The Prospit half is very light hearted and full of piano, bass, and flute, whereas the Derse half is a lot darker with more synths and violin solos
  15. Solatrus has noted that the Derse tracks are more of his forte and believes they are the stronger part of the album, but is proud of Prospit regardless. YMMV completely of course.
  16. This contains all the songs and is the only place to hear the slightly tweaked portions of each song, but conversely also has some transitions between them built in and not the complete track.
  17. Word Of Tensei is that it was originally intended to be his take on Descend, the End of Act 4 song. When synced up, the two fit remarkably well - and to some extent Descend set to the first part of Cascade works too.
  18. This was initially included in the .zip, but is not listed as being part of the album count, has no album art, and is a reversed and very quiet preview of a future track. Radiation later removed it as it apparently wasn't meant to be there.
  19. One artist's submissions ("Indigo Archer" and "Purple Tyrant") were removed due to plagiarism. Tracks of the same name but different composition were later added to the album in their place, and may be downloaded for free
  20. Handmaid of Death
  21. If I Were Like Rufio (Tavros)
  22. The Green Odyssey (Bec)
