The hero, chosen by the Precursors to protect the world. He has amazing eco-channeling powers. Due to two years of torturous Dark Eco experiments at the hands of Baron Praxis, he has a monstrous alter-ego called Dark Jak. However, he has been blessed by the Precursors with Light Eco, therefore balancing him out. He can be angry and violent at times, but he is a hero at heart.

The sidekick, at least at first. His ego is enormous, and he is always telling tall tales, mostly about his adventures with Jak, although he stretches the truth to make him seem like the hero. His friends seem to like Jak better than him (for the most part), but they just can't resist his unique charm... though he still irritates them to some degree. Most consider him to be a nuisance and a coward, but they're wrong (well, at least about the coward part). He has matured over the years and doesn't flirt as often as he used to, and he is extremely loyal to his friends.

A gifted mechanic, inventor and racer, Keira is an invaluable help. She invented the Zoomer way back in The Precursor Legacy and the Jet-Board in Jak II. She is courageous, kind and independent, though she has exhibited some jealousy whenever a rival for Jak's affections shows up. She's not a fighter in a "bash-your-skull-in" sense, but she's willing to get out on the track and blow things up.

He is very protective of Keira, his only child, but he seems to be getting over his letting-go issues. He is absolutely enthralled with the mystery of the Precursors.

He is normally calm, cool, and collected, but he also has a hint of rage in his personality that tends to come out when he's anxious. While he at first was distrustful of Jak and Daxter, they both eventually earn his respect.

This hardcore fighter has a sensitive side, but it's well hidden from outsiders. He's more than ready to rumble, especially if his friends need help. When Jak impressed him with his sharp-shooting, it signals the beginning of what becomes a good friendship. He even seems to respect Daxter, once complimenting his story-telling prowess.

This monkaw is wise, but at times can act like an idiot, and occasionally he's a little perverted. He's cowardly, only looks out for himself, and is constantly changing alliances. Despite this, he is a good guy through and through. He has habit of talking for other people, perhaps from his job as Onin's interpreter, which can get annoying. A rather odious individual, he often twists Onin's words to his own liking, summarizing them in an impolite manner. He and Daxter share a strong rivalry from the moment they meet onward, getting into word-wars that sometimes escalate into fist fights (though we never see them on-screen. Darn). The main reason? It's probably that they're too alike.

Onin is a blind soothsayer that speaks in hand gestures, interpreted by Pecker, who sits in her bowl-like hat. She is very wise, but sometimes "speaks" in riddles. She seems to be as omniscient as one can possibly be, knowing who Jak was and Kor's secret, among other things.

The reason you shouldn't play around with Dark Eco, Gol Acheron and his sister Maia are the villains of the first installment.

  • Absolute Cleavage - Have you seen Maia's outfit?

  • Brother Chuck - It's highly likely they're both dead after the first game despite Samos's words. Either the dark eco did destroy them, they were trapped in the silo with no way of getting out so they starved to death, the Metalheads killed them after Jak opened the rift gate or they simply died of old age during the massive time gap jump of when Jak and co arrive in Haven City. Even if they are officially dead nobody ever mentions them again. However an unused part of Samos's opening dialogue for Jak 2 does have him mentioning Jak defeating Gol.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul - Gol does seem to have some mechanical parts, but it's safe to assume that the Dark Eco is to blame for the insanity than anything else.

This Jabba the Hut look-alike ran the Hip Hog Heaven Saloon (now Daxter's Naughty Ottsel). He was also a gang lord in Kras City before he came to Haven. He was obsessed with weapons and built the Peircer Bomb, strong enough to crack open the Precursor Stone. However, in a battle with Jak and Daxter, it was accidentally set to explode, and detonated seconds after Ashelin picked them up, incinerating Krew and the Weapons Factory. He comes back to haunt Jak two years later.

  • The Chessmaster: In Jak II, he's manipulating the Underground, the Baron AND the Metal Heads for his own profit: He's giving the Underground information about the Baron's dealings with the Metal Heads in return for favours, among which he has Jak retrieve the ruby key from the statue of Mar. The key he uses to sell the entire city out to the Metal Heads by opening a tunnel to the city through the underport. However, at the same time, he's helping the Baron building the Piercer Bomb and planning to use it along with the Precursor Stone to destroy the Metal Head nest, suggesting that he didn't really plan on letting the Metal Heads take the city.

Not much is known about this pyromaniac, except that he's a smoker and he loves explosives. He appears in only three missions, one in Jak II and two in Jak 3. In Jak 3, he destroys some power boxes in the KG area, and he also captures a KG Blast Bot.

Count Veger is obsessed with "destroying all shadows" and likes everything neat and tidy, but just can't accept that life is messy. He strongly distrusts Jak and his Dark Eco abilities and was the reason Jak was banished to the Wasteland. Despite claiming to be well-meaning, Veger is ultimately motivated by his own goals of becoming a Precursor and is happy to cause collateral damage and genocide in order to get what he wants, and in the end, through a rather odd series of events, he becomes an ottsel, and Kleiver's sidekick.

  • Amoral Afrikaner: While he technically isn't an Afrikaner (especially since Africa doesn't exist in the universe of Jak and Daxter), he speaks in what appears to be based on the real-life South African accent. And it's hard to be anymore amoral when you are willing to commit acts of genocide and other evil twisted deeds in order to become a precursor.
  • Asshole Victim: It is implied in Jak X that, after being turned into an Ottsel, he is eaten by Kleiver. And considering what a scumbag Veger is shown to be, it is a fate that he definitely had coming.
  • Badass Longcoat - You have to admit, his blue coat looks quite cool, even if Veger himself is far from a badass.
  • Bald of Evil: Well, Balding in this case. Though the evil part is played very straight.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For - He wishes to become a Precursor. There were aspects of this he was not expecting.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Cyber Errol, even though they are against each-other and not on the same side.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Although he is technically one of the main antagonists in Jak 3 and is revealed to be the one who separated Jak from his father, he is far less of a threat than Errol or the Metal Heads and gets defeated in a very humiliating fashion, making him more of a borderline supporting antagonist more than anything else. His petulant behavior whenever he is mocked, never taken seriously, or when he never gets his way is also intended to show just how pathetic and insecure of an individual Veger really is deep down.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing - And he doesn't even do a half-decent job at hiding his true colors, since he is presented as a Jerkass in the very first scene we see him. He likes to portray himself as a Well-Intentioned Extremist who supports light eco and wants to protect the people of Haven City from the Metal Heads and destroy them by any means necessary. In reality, he is a cruel, uncaring, megalomaniacal psychopath with delusions of godhood, purely motivated by his own selfish goals to become a precursor, and all the horrible things he does throughout the story, supposedly in the name of fighting for the greater good, are really to help further his self-serving desires to become the new dictator of Haven City. He is also the one who separated Jak from his father, and then sadistically taunts Jak over his father's death, showing what an evil, vile person Veger really is deep down.
  • Blue Eyes - Well, blue-green.
  • Chekhov's Gunman- Count Veger was mostly responsible for kicking Jak out of Haven City, but there's nothing really personal between them... except for the fact that Veger knew all along that Jak was Damas's son, and in fact separated the two of them in the first place.
  • Click Hello - He pulls one of these in Jak 3, though we don't hear a click: he announces his presence by shouting at Jak.
  • Complete Monster: What he turns out to be, beneath his facade of a Well-Intentioned Extremist.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment - He is transformed into a tiny, furry precursor.
  • Cowardly Boss: So much so that he barely even qualifies as a Cutscene Boss or even a boss at all. Because he can't personally fight Jak himself, which is only natural, given that Veger doesn't even have any powers, nor is he even physically strong, he instead gets a giant robot to fight Jak while Veger hides.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Where to even begin? For starters, he has Jak stranded in the middle of the desert, in the hopes of dooming him to a slow and painful death, even though it would have been more logical to simply have Jake quickly executed, especially since he actually survives and makes it back to Haven City. And finally there is Veger's quest to become a precursor... He did not do enough research to learn that becoming a precursor actually meant becoming an Ottsel, as opposed to an almighty god that he foolishly hoped he could become. Needless to say, every evil deed Veger does throughout the story was ultimately All for Nothing, and his own selfishness ended up being his own undoing at the end of the day.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything? - Early concept art for Count Veger shows him sporting a mustache that greatly resembles that of a certain dictator, which is very fitting, considering his hatred towards the Metal Heads resembles that of Hitler's hatred towards the Jews and had Veger became in charge of Haven city like he had hoped, he would have become a brutal dictator, just like Hitler when he ruled over Germany.
  • Even Evil Has Standards - A scene in Daxter has him arguing against the Dark Warrior Program, saying straight-up that it is a bad idea. Though with that being said, whether this is actually a case of him having standards, or just Pragmatic Villainy, isn't really clear.
  • Evil Is Petty: His decision to rub Damas' death right in Jak's face is nothing more than childish sadism for the sake of it.
  • Evil Versus Evil: His main enemy is the Metal Heads and anyone remotely associated with Dark Eco and he takes part in the war against them, despite the fact that, in the end, he is no better than they are.
  • Firing One-Handed - The former trope image was taken from a scene near the end where he threatens Jak.
  • Handguns
  • Hate Sink: Veger somehow manages to be an even more despicable character than any of the other villains in the Jak franchise. His overall treatment of Jak is nothing short of cruel and unnecessary, not to mention the fact it was Veger himself who separated Jak from his father, then had the nerve to rub it in his face. He has virtually no redeemable traits, not even performing one heroic or altruistic deed throughout the story, and even his desire to destroy the Metal Heads turns out to be for completely selfish reasons, and it's implied if Veger had taken over Haven city, he would have become just as much of a despot as Baron Praxis. In short, there is virtually nothing likable about Veger's character, at all...
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Though unlike other examples, Veger was never even good to begin with.
  • Heroic Wannabe: He is delusional enough to view himself as a hero and loves to arrogantly boast about being the "light" of Haven city. Little does he realize that he lacks the morals or heroic deeds that make one a hero, which is exactly Jak ends up being more of a hero than Veger could ever dream of becoming.
  • Immortality Immorality: Although it isn't outright mentioned, it is heavily implied that one of the reasons Veger finds the idea of becoming a precursor so appealing is that he will be granted immorality. And, as already mentioned, he will do anything, no matter how evil it is, in order to achieve it.
  • It's All About Me: For all his talk of wanting to save Haven city from the metal heads, he never once shows any consideration for anyone else, never once doing anything that is compassionate or heroic (unless of course there is some benefit in it for him, though even then, we still don't see him doing anything like that), and even goes as far as to treat those around with nothing but disdain for no reason, other than pure arrogance and narcissism. And when it's all said and done, Veger cares about nothing more than his own selfish desire of becoming an immortal god and possibly a tyrannical dictator.
  • Jerkass: And how! Not only is he arrogant and condescending towards others, while throwing his weight around until he's disbarred, but he cruelly gloats that Damas never realized Jak was his son as he died, for no other reason, other than to spite Jak.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: The fact that he claims to be fighting for the greater good and supports Light Eco research would suggest that Veger has at-least some redeeming qualities. Unfortunately, it is revealed that he only cares about himself, and his goal to rescue Haven city from the metal heads are purely for selfish reasons. His sadistic taunting towards Jak over his father's death especially shows his true colors as the Complete Monster he really is deep down.
  • Karmic Transformation - CMoF. That is all.
  • Kick the Dog - his gloating to Jak immediately after Damas' death.
  • Knight Templar - He practically IS this trope: a strong supporter of Light Eco research and revealed to be one of the main villains of the overall series.
  • Lack of Empathy: When you are willing to go as far as to taunt someone over the death of their loved one, for no reason at all, you know you are playing this trope straight.
  • Last-Name Basis - Maybe
  • Laughably Evil: Downplayed. The only thing amusing about Veger is his childish reactions to whenever someone makes fun of him (especially his name) or when he never gets his own way. His villainous actions are never played for laughs, however.
  • Light Is Not Good: He dresses in blue and white clothing and embraces light eco. Despite that, the story makes it clear that Veger is pure evil.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory/Pyrrhic Villainy: In the end, Veger achieved his goals and became a Precursor. Unfortunately for him, however, it turns out to be the exact opposite of what he was hoping for.
  • Miles Gloriosus: He loves to boast about his influence and supposed heroism, but beneath it all, Veger is nothing more than a Smug Snake and Dirty Coward of the highest order who wouldn't last a minute when put up against any real danger, hence why he is often prone to hiding and getting his men to do the dirty work for him.
  • My Name Is Not Durwood - Daxter's favorite method of annoying him.
  • Obstructive Zealot: Like you wouldn't believe.
  • Smug Snake
  • The Sociopath: He is more than happy to commit atrocities, often for his own benefit, from separating Jak from his father as a child, to cruelly taunting Jak when his father dies. He also causes a massacre by collapsing the palace via a terrorist attack, and then frames it on the Metal Heads, just so he can gain access to the catacombs below, and like other sociopaths, Veger has been shown to be incapable of any empathy, kindness or altruism, caring only about himself and his goals of godhood and immortality.
  • Stupid Evil: Veger has a bad habit of letting his own sadism and cruelty get the better of him, to the point of Bond Villain Stupidity. For example, he decides to have Jak sentenced to death by having him abandoned in the middle of a desert, even though it would have been far more convenient to have Jak quickly executed, which ironically results in Jak surviving and returning to Haven city. Furthermore, his desire to become a precursor ends up being his own undoing, since he is transformed into an ottsel instead.
  • The Chessmaster - A little bit. He was the one who had Jak taken from his father and placed in the Underground for example.
  • The Unfought
  • Token Evil Teammate: At first, he is on the heroes' side in their attempt to destroy the Metal Heads. Though, unlike the heroes, Veger has his own agenda, while using the heroes for his own goals. Eventually, they grow sick of Veger because of his despicable personality and ultimately cut ties with him, to the point where Ashelin even has him disbarred. Not that it stops him from continuing his villainous quest, however.
  • Took a Level In Jerkass: Granted, Veger was never nice to begin with, but at first, he at-least acted like he wanted to do the right thing by protecting Haven City from the Metal Heads, or so it seemed. Unfortunately, as the story progresses, the audience gets to see just how despicable of a person Veger really is, where it is revealed he is the one responsible for separating Jak from his father, Damas, and then taunts Jak over his father's death, for no reason other than petty sadism, and all the evil things he does throughout the game that he commits, supposedly to destroy the Metal Heads, are revealed to be for completely selfish reasons, nothing more.
  • Twitchy Eye - He gets one after The Reveal.
  • Villain with Good Publicity - He had enough influence to get Jak removed from the city and practically blamed for everything. Unfortunately for him, the publicity doesn't last forever.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist - He really wants to destroy the Metal Heads, and the Dark Makers, but does a lot of terrible things to meet that end. This is subverted, however, as the story makes it quite clear that Veger does not actually genuinely care about the best interests of the citizens of Haven city, and he is purely motivated by his own selfish, greedy desires to rule Haven city with an iron-fist and to become a Precursor. This is also supported by the fact that he was the one who kidnapped young Jak away from his dad for his own benefit, and he destroys the palace via a terrorist attack, resulting in thousands being killed, all just to gain access to the catacombs. And then he decides to taunt Jak about his father's death for no real reason, other than sadistic malice.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: As already mentioned above, Veger could have easily had Jak immediately executed after having him arrested, but due to being unable to resist his own sadism, as well as underestimating Jak's survival skills, he instead decides to go full Bond Villain Stupidity by having Jak banished to the wasteland for life, which he survives of course. Veger does appear to learn from this mistake, however, as he later gets a giant robot to try and kill Jak, but even that doesn't work. Then Veger reverts back to his old mistakes by taunting Jak over his father's death, even though Veger could have used that moment as an opportunity to finally kill Jak, especially from behind if Jak wasn't looking, although that is assuming Veger had a gun on him at that time. To play this trope even straighter, when Jak finally meets the precursors, Veger also arrives while pointing his gun at Jak, and despite having the perfect chance to shoot Jak, he, for whatever reason, does not, and instead points his gun at the precursors while threatening them. Take a good guess how well that turns out for Veger.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Veger speaks in a rather unusual accent throughout the game, sounding like a weird mixture of Upper-Class British and Middle Eastern (mainly due to how Veger often roles his tongue whenever he says something that either begins or ends with the letter R). Many fans believe that it is supposed to be a South African accent, due to the strong resemblance.
  • You Are What You Hate: Despite his extreme, downright genocidal hatred towards the Metal Heads and Dark Eco, Veger ultimately proves to be every bit as bad and as dangerous as them through his own cruelty and sadism, along with his acts of destruction that ultimately cause the deaths of innocent civilians that he is supposed to be protecting from the Metal Heads, but is too narcissistic to even be self-aware of that, as well as actually being delusional enough to think his on the side of good.

Damas's second-in-command and the self-described "guy who runs Spargus". He immediately develops an unpleasant rivalry with Jak upon meeting him.

His father was one of the best racers on the planet before being murdered by the Kras City crime lord Mizo Blitz would know, since he is secretly Mizo and murdered his own father as revenge for leaving him for races every day.

The leader of the Sky Pirates, and the first antagonist Jak meets upon reaching the Brink. He spends his time stealing eco from anyone who crosses his path, and tries to steal the eco right out of the heroes Hellcat. He and Jak fight, but he escapes while their ship crash-lands on an island. It turns out his real goal is to prevent the end of the world, and stop Skyheed.

He's also responsible for the Aeropa's Dark Warrior Program.

Skyheed's right-hand man. He immediately takes a dislike to Jak and Daxter, and makes them prove themselves worthy of protecting the Eco Seeker, the only device capable of finding the Eco Core. Even then, he still doesn't trust them. As it turns out, he was well aware of Skyheed's plan all alway, and was secretly helping Jak the entire time.
