Jokehnen is a German TV series from 1986 (when it was made) based on the book by author Arno Surminski. It tells the story of the (fictional) village Jokehnen in East Prussia, centered on the boy Hermann Steputat who is born in 1934, right on the day when the German president Hindenburg died, which meant that Adolf Hitler had absolute power from then on.
Jokehnen is a very small village (about two hundred people) and quite backwards. Life goes on not that different from before, Hitler is far away, as is the war. Until the year 1945, that is, when the Red Army approaches and all the people have to leave the village -- way too late, of course.
Armin Mueller-Stahl plays the mayor of the village, who's also the father of Hermann.
