To say that Kaze to Ki no Uta is a Tear Jerker of a series really doesn't do this woefest justice.

  • Everything about Kaze to Ki no Uta is tragic; Serge's orphanhood and the continued racism against his gypsy mother, his seemingly-futile relationship with Gilbert, Gilbert's own psychopathic, destructive and promiscuous tendencies, which, when explained in great detail only become too sad for words, Pascal's very own Dead Little Brother, the reason Rosemarine hates Gilbert and can't sleep with the boy he loves (it's all Auguste's fault), the general permeating hatred of homosexuality that abounds due to the time and setting, Gilbert's eventual prostitution, drug addiction and death... even Serge's cheerful optimism and kindness become tragic at times.
  • Gilbert's breakdown in Jules's arms near the start of volume 15, and much later in the same volume, his suicide attempt.
