One of the Names to Know in Anime, Kenji Kawai (23 April 1957- ) is a soundtrack composer of long standing.
After studying at Tokai University and dropping out of Shobi Music Academy, he and some friends formed a fusion rock band, which (as bands do) broke up when the members decided to follow different musical paths. Kenji Kawai started composing music for videos, TV commercials, and radio plays. It was through a radio play that he met Naoko Asari, who suggested he compose music for anime. The rest is history.
