  • Alas, Poor Villain: Greham.
    • Emperor Doel.
  • Base Breaker: Miranda. To half the fandom she's The Scrappy, to the other half she's an emotionally compelling Broken Bird.
  • Cliché Storm: Notably though, plenty of tropes are subverted and deconstructed instead of played straight.
  • Complete Monster: Fruegal, the sadistic warden of Hellena Prison.
  • Critical Dissonance: While critics had mixed feelings about the game, the gamers' opinion was, and still is, significantly greater.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Dart and Rose, who get scores of tease lines and romantic interludes (especially in Disc 2).
  • Freud Was Right: Rose's "Astral Drain" and "Demon's Gate" spells. Yes, this can be non-phallic. On top of that, all of Rose's Additions read off like an S&M fan's wet dream. "Whip Smack", "More and More", "Hard Blade", and even "Demon's Dance" to a degree.
    • Rose's voice actor not only says the names of her additions, but throws a single word into the longer ones as well. That word is die.
  • It Was His Sled: If you’re reading this page, chances are you already know everything in the spoilers.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Lloyd.
  • Needs More Love: In a GameStop user's Top Ten Most Underrated Video Games of All Time blog, the game is ranked #1. Despite being a two-million unit seller, the game has only recently been uploaded to the Play Station Store, and even then, it was only in Japan until May 1 of 2012.
  • Squick: The Ship Tease moments between Dart and Rose, considering that Dart's already committed to Shana, Rose is Really Eleven Thousand Years Old and she used to the fiancee of Dart's dad.
  • Tear Jerker: The Call Back in the ending movie to a conversation between Dart and Lavitz.
  • That One Boss: Lenus is the biggest example the first time you face her because the number of attacks she gets increases the more damage you deal, and she will spam her powerful magical attacks if you intentionally turtle.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks: Bears some very slight similarities to the megahit Final Fantasy VII, released two years prior. It's generally agreed that these are superficial in nature, since Legend of Dragoon's storyline and characters are radically different.
  • Tier-Induced Scrappy: Kongol. Slow as all get out, has the magic defense of a wet paper bag, and only has three additions, with the first two giving ridiculously small amounts of SP, making it an absolute chore to get his Dragoon levels up. If you didn't buy his Dragoon Spirit earlier on, it's doubtful you'd bother leveling it up in the final dungeon.
  • Too Cool to Live: Lavitz.
