 Oh, Little Audrey says

"Save for a rainy day."

She saves, but every time it rains

She spends what she puts away.

She knows her proverbs, A to Z,

And knows the good they bring.

But when she has to follow them,

Well, that's another thing.

 Oh, Little Audrey says

"While the sun is out, make hay."

Though she's not immense,

There's a lot of sense

In what Little Audrey has to say.

"Little Audrey Says" Theme Song

Little Audrey is a cartoon character from Famous Studios, made during The Golden Age of Animation. Her creation was spurred by the studio deciding not to renew the rights to Little Lulu and creating a similar character to us in the shorts. She is voiced by Mae Questel, who also voiced Betty Boop and Olive Oyl in the Popeye cartoons. During her Famous Studios years, she starred in a fair amount of cartoons between 1947 to 1958 before she appeared in Harvey Comics afterward.

No relation to that other Audrey.

Tropes used in Little Audrey include:

  • Alien Invasion: The dream theme for "Dizzy Dishes".
  • All Just a Dream: Most if not all of her shorts. Not so the comic.
  • Beach Episode: "Surf Bored".
  • Big "Shut Up!": The truant officer delivers one to Audrey in "Fishing Tackler" when she tries to explain that the school is closed due to a holiday.
  • Blue Eyes: Audrey has this eye color.
  • Captain Ersatz: Little Audrey was created when Famous Studios lost the rights to its previous series of Little Lulu cartoons.
  • Cool Old Lady: Grandma in "Little Audrey Riding Hood", who unexpectedly and effortlessly defeats the robber.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Audrey attempts to sneak Pal onto the beach disguised as her little brother in "Surf Bored", but fails to suspect that the lifeguard will notice Pal's tail sticking out through a hole in the back of his trunks, which he does.
  • Dream Land: Pretty much a theme in several Audrey cartoons.
  • Electric Torture: The 'Eee-lectric' chair that Audrey gets sentenced to by the end of the cartoon 'The Seapreme Court'.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Many of the shorts end with Audrey laughing.
  • Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs: Blue in the cartoons; Red in the comics. Both match Audrey's dresses. Though, sometimes they're mixed in several comic strips.
  • Force Feeding / I Taste Delicious: The candy people in "Butterscotch and Soda" when Audrey's dream turns into a nightmare.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: When Audrey's boat sinks to the bottom of the lake in "Law and Audrey", she starts filling a bucket to dump all of the water out. Once she resurfaces, the boat is suspended in mid-air for a moment before landing back in the water.
  • Green Around the Gills: Audrey during her dream/nightmare sequence in "Butterscotch and Soda" after stuffing herself full of candy.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: The policeman in "Law and Audrey" may be overreacting and not understand that the mishaps Audrey causes are mere accidents, but he isn't wrong when he tells Audrey to be more careful after she gives him a black eye with the baseball, especially since he's always the one who ends up suffering some kind of misfortune as a result of Audrey's antics.
  • Kangaroo Court: "The Seapreme Court".
  • Level Ate: Audrey's dream in "Butterscotch and Soda".
  • Mood Whiplash: "Song of the Birds" starts off as a series of comical mishaps as Audrey wreaks havoc with her gun, then things take a dark turn once the bluebirds are introduced. Audrey shoots the baby bird and is initially thrilled with her first catch, then she sees the mother bird trying desperately in vain to wake her baby and is faced with the realization that she has killed a living thing.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: "Goofy Goofy Gander" features a version of Humpty Dumpty who looks and acts just like Edward G. Robinson, complete with his trademark "M'yeah."
  • Nudity Discretion Shot: Subverted in "Surf Bored". As Audrey changes into her bathing suit, it cuts to Audrey's pet dog Pal who covers his eyes in shock and then cuts back to Audrey again changing her clothes while zipped inside the bag and then comes out fully dressed in her bathing suit.
  • Nursery Rhyme: The cartoon "Goofy Goofy Gander" has 'Mother Goose rhymes' as the theme for Audrey's dream adventure.
  • Onion Tears: Audrey chops onions to make the rainmaker cry in "Audrey the Rainmaker".
  • Panty Shot: In virtually every short. Even moreso in the comics.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: A burglar disguises himself as Grandma in "Little Red Riding Hood", but Audrey isn't fooled, and the jig is soon up.
  • Shaggy Dog Story: "Fishing Tackler" counts as one for the truant officer. He spends all day trying to catch Audrey and take her to school, only to find out that the school is closed for the day.
  • Spank the Cutie: Audrey got it from her parents on a regular basis in the comics.
  • We Interrupt This Program: In "Hold the Lion Please", the announcer on the radio mentions the lion which escaped from the zoo after Rover accidentally roars. Audrey quickly switches the radio off hoping Petunia didn't catch this, but the maid has heard enough to know exactly what's going on and freaks out.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In "The Seapreme Court", sea creatures have Audrey electrocuted by electric eels for fishing. It's All Just a Dream, though.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Audrey. A more child example.
