Loco Roco

On a peaceful, far-away planet, the LocoRoco and their friends the MuiMui help look after and grow vegetation on the planet, playing and singing the peaceful days away. Until one day when the Moja Troop invades the planet to take it over. Since the LocoRoco don't know how to fight or defend themselves, the player takes control of the planet and must tilt and shake to help the LocoRoco survive.

Aside from having an original concept, the game was a massive hit in US and is probably the cutest game in all of existence. Also includes tons of Ear Worms.

  • There is a code out there on the Internet, but it only works on the UK regional setting, although when used, it unlocks those same items on the other regional settings.
• Cutscene Power to the Max - Apparently, blowing Galanmar off the planet is easier for the player character in cutscenes than in game.
• Dark Is Not Evil - The black LocoRoco, Budzi, is, despite looking a bit like a Moja and being native to the dark spooky land, Dolangomeri, just a friendly "loose cannon".
• Dinner Deformation - Happens in Womb Levels although the scale the thing bulging are organs and not the whole neck.
• Evil Counterpart - The mischievous BuiBui in contrast to the friendly MuiMui in LocoRoco 2.
  • Evil Knockoff - When Majoline kisses a captive MuiMui, it turns into a BuiBui. Squick.
• Fan Nickname - Midnight Carnival is often called Nightmare Carnival due to its difficulty.
• Fertile Feet Fertile Blobmass - Makes berry plants grow on surfaces when rolling or jumping into places where they grow.
• Fungus Humongous - Kelapton.
• Funny Afro - Seen in Loco Roco 2
• Gaiden Game - Midnight Carnival
• Genius Loci - And you control it.
• Giant Mook - Oja and Ojaja
• Gravity Screw - You do that so those blobs could move.
• Green Hill Zone - Moinoi, moinoi...
  • Although the place where music goes La di da, la diida dii da would almost qualify if it wasn't orange.
• I Am Not Shazam - In case anyone is fooled by a MuiMui's opening speech, the LocoRoco are a species, and each of the different colors has their own name. For example the yellow LocoRoco is named Kulche.
• Image Song - In the manner of characters singing their own themes both in game and in the soundtrack.
• Incorruptible Pure Pureness - The fact that the LocoRoco don't even know how to fight the Mojas until you take over. In fact, they seem completely incapable of even THINKING of doing any harm.
  • Even if their companion is devoured or died disappeared, the remaining ones will continue singing if it's the song they can sing to.

• Mini Game - There's several in both games, including a crane game, the MuiMui House (which is different in both games) and one in 2 where you guess which LocoRoco will be first place in a race.

• Mondegreen - Tiny caribou Yakuza! Bu bu poruche awesome goo! Yeah, new caribou, shoot for the very best star! Car bomb, you're dead!
• Musical Assassin - The Moja in LocoRoco 2 decide to make polluting clouds by singing their new song as a means of revenge.
• Non-Singing Voice - Kulche and Chavez both have different 2 voice actors, depending on if they talk or sing. (Although budzi has 2 different voice actors too, although the second one is singing chorus only)

• Singing Simlish - One of the finest examples.
• Slippy-Slidey Ice World - The Shamplin world.
• Snot Bubble - Sleeping characters do that.
• Speaking Simlish - Everyone, although it's easily mistaken for Japanese at first. Even if the song lyrics probably don't mean anything, they still manage to sound awesome.
• Stalactite Spite: Seen in Loco Roco 2. But they don't damage you.
• Sugar Bowl - Pretty much most of the worlds. Especially Fraenza the place where music goes La dii da dii daa, la dii da dii daa....
• Super Not-Drowning Skills: Face it, it's very rare to see a Blob Monster to drown and Loco Roco series is not an exception.
  • The new Gaiden Game Midnight Carnival takes BuiBui Fort 3 of LocoRoco 2's difficulty, amps it up to eleven and only gets worse from the twelfth stage onwards.
• Tomboy and Girly Girl - Viole and Priffy species.
• Traveling Pipe Bulge - Pipes and other things in the series are flexible.
• Variable Mix
• Villain Song - One of the best out there. But it can suck one's life force away.
• "The Villain Sucks" Song - There are 2 of them.
• Voice Grunting - "Muju, mujo", "Muimui", "Buibui"...
• Wall Jump - Possible with the Boing! move in Midnight Carnival. Some levels are dependant on the player's wall jumping ability.
