- Audience-Alienating Premise: Especially for those who entered fandom after 2003. To put it simple, due to changing perceptions on abuse, a bunch of girls constantly hitting and mistreating The Chew Toy of a main male character over and over doesn't read as funny today as it was at the late nineties and the early years of the Turn of the Millennium. Heck, even back then there were people who didn't find it that funny to begin with, due to the moments when the abuse went beyond Comedic Sociopathy and into uncomfortable territory.
- It's made worse because in many comedy series, the guy that gets punched and abused is either a jerk or an pervert... but Keitaro is actually a pretty Nice Guy, so many people can't even say "hey, he did bring it on himself".
- Base Breaker: Naru is either an hilarious Tsundere who brings up a lot of the humor, or an horrible Domestic Abuser who should be thrown in jail. Pretty much the same goes for Motoko, Mitsune, and Kaolla Su (also Sara McDougal as well).
- Canon Fodder: Whenever a throwaway line of dialogue is needed, one of the characters, usually Keitaro, says some variation of "...It had three holes, and I really wanted one." The mysterious object with three holes is never revealed, and is probably an inside joke among the creators.
- Dry Docking: At least one fan was very happy that Keitaro ended up with Naru, leaving Motoko single.
- Ear Worm: The anime's theme song grows on you...a lot.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Shinobu and Mutsumi, largely because those two are the only two girls at the inn who are actually nice to Keitaru and don't abuse him (well, his stepsister Kanako as well, though she doesn't qualify due to being hated for other reasons.).
- Fan-Preferred Couple: Mutsumi and Keitaro, Motoko and Keitaro, Shinobu and Keitaro...
- Harsher in Hindsight: The fact that Double Standard Abuse (Female on Male) is in full play especially with later instances of it in the real world made Naru and the other girls' treatment of Keitaru less funny. It ends up becoming even less funny than that after reports of how College Campuses are teaching about rape culture, SJWs, and safe spaces, as well as promoting similar teachings to what the girls believed about Keitaru in the manga. Ironically, Ken Akamatsu ended up speaking out against this bit later on, or at least the SJWs' attempts at censoring manga and anime.
- Les Yay: Naru and Mutsumi in the shower shortly after Mutsumi is first introduced in the manga.
- While Keitaro is away, Mutsumi "dresses up" as him (by putting on glasses and rearranging her hair) in the hot springs and puts the moves on Naru. While the reason she gives is to merely try and make it easier for Naru to express her feelings for Keitaro, Cue Naru Megaton Punching her by mistake.
- When Kanako first arrives in Love Hina Again, she disguises herself as Naru and feels up a number of the residents of Hinata Inn as research for her disguises. Motoko's "examination" takes place in an alleyway, and draws quite a crowd of nosebleeding men.
- Much more discreet in the manga, where Kanako-as-Naru attacks Motoko inside the Hinata House, using the convenient pretense of privately teaching her about what could be in the entrance exams.
- Moe: Shinobu. With those vulnerable eyes, luminscent blushes, embarrassed stutterings, and that impossibly cute squeal, how could anyone not want to hug her?
- Ron the Death Eater: The hatred some fans have for Naru or Motoko (or Kitsune, sometimes) reaches ridiculous levels at times...
- Ship-to-Ship Combat: Put a Motoko/Keitarou and a Naru/Kaitaro shipper in the same room. There will be blood.
- Die for Our Ship: Either Motoko is an abusive bitch without any sympathetic traits and wants to steal Keitarou from Naru, or Naru is a cruel Domestic Abuser who should be tied up and forced to watch as Motoko marries Keitarou.
- Subbing vs. Dubbing: Love Hina is pretty infamous between voice actors and fans alike for being a royal pain to dub in almost every language. The Mexican Spanish, German and American dubs are some infamous cases, especially the Mexican one, who practically destroyed the perception of the franchise in Latin America.
- The English dub subverted this and it managed to include also the OVAs too.
- On the other hand, the Mexican Spanish translation of the original manga has a excellent translation, handled by the same translator who translated the scripts of both Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura's animated adaptations to Mexican Spanish.
- Unfortunate Implications: "If you're a male in this series, it's a-okay to harrass you, beat you up, treat you like a thing and call you a pervert even if you're not! You'll have to apologize to your own abusers anyway!" Doesn't help either that the girls themselves seem to not have any problem engaging in more perverse behavior to each other, such as exposing their own nude bodies to each other in public.
