    • "DINOSAUR EMPIRE!!"
  • Konata was also reminded about Gunbuster when they talked about the entire dentist experience, complete with a cute nurse doing Noriko's little dance in front of a spaceship.
    • Earlier, Konata seeing a discount for QUO cards caused the Gunbuster march to appear as concentration music.
  • Internal reference: the drama CD/anime seiyuu discussion was basically referring to this series.
  • In Kagami's Imagine Spot about Konata working in the bookstore, Konata stole bookmarks put next to a Shuffle float.
  • Konata and Tsukasa were playing Hare Hare Yukai on the taiko drum game.
  • Minoru's first line in this Lucky Channel before he composes himself: "Wa-wa-wa-wasure.../I for-for-forgot my..."

Episode 4[]

Episode 5[]

  • Kagami named her goldfish Gyopi-chan after the flying goldfish in Goldfish Warning.

  • Tsukasa and Konata's phone conversation on depleted uranium was yet another Full Metal Panic reference.
  • Konata sings "Cha-La-Head-Cha-La" by Hironobu Kageyama (the first Dragonball Z opening) in the ending.
  • The Background Music to the game Konata is playing sounds an awful lot like Perfect World...
  • Also, while playing, Konata sings Bouken Desho Desho, with different lyrics, the 1st season of Suzumiya Haruhi's OP.
  • When Kagami attempts to do the fish scoop, she says "Getto da ze!" That is the Japanese motto for the Pokémon series. In English, it was translated to "Gotta Catch Them All!".
  • When Konata was talking about compfest, she was holding up a magazine with Archer and Saber on it.

Episode 6[]

  • The gang plus Kuroi and Yui are going to the beach in Episode 6 when Yui goes all * bleep* D, complete with a song by "m.o.e.v".
  • Konata's again referring to Full Metal Panic when she mentioned Shooting Watermelons.
  • When Nanako drinks her beer in the beach cafe, it's almost a perfect replica of Misato's beer-drinking scene.
  • Konata's referring to vintage personal care commercials in the Furo Scene (Timotei and Mandom).
  • Later during the scary story they mention Futari Wa Pretty Cure
  • Later The Inugami Clan is also used to scare the characters.

    • The figure skater who won the (2006) Winter Olympics was Shizuka Arakawa.
    • The High School baseball tournament that went into extra innings, as Bandai's notes said, went on for two days. Prince Handkerchief refers to a player of the winning team.
    • Kagami mentioned Daisuke Matsuzaka, who went to Red Sox after the 2006 season.
    • The 2006 Japan Series was between the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters and Chunichi Dragons, so Konata mentioned "blocks of ham."
  • Konata, Kagami, and Tsukasa watch Saw III.
  • Here's something dub only: When Minoru's getting Tsukasa's profile, Akira comments that he sounds like a nerdy turtle. Granted, Akira calls him a turtle in the Japanese version...

Episode 10[]

  • Soujirou has a fangasm when he realizes how similar Tsukasa and Kagami are to Sakura and Rin.
  • Konata's room is exposed. We see a Mikuru figurine, clearly the Gachapon version, and the poster of the Haruhi cast in bunny suits.
  • Tsukasa's phone has a Tamama keychain on it.

  • Yui walks on Konata watching a Kousuke Kindaichi movie and a Odoru Daisaisusasen drama.
  • Konata's dad shouts "STRONGER!!" as he plays with static electricity, which is a reference to Kamen Rider Stronger's henshin sequence.
  • Ending theme was Doraemon no Uta.
  • Konata mentions seeing a girl in a sailor uniform holding a machine gun on the train platform. A reference to Sailor Suit and Machine Gun, a 1980s TV drama that was remade in 2006, which OP was sung by Kagami at the end of episode 4.

Episode 12[]

  • The entire episode is a trip to Comiket or Comic Market, the world's largest Doujinshi fair.
    • Huge Haruhi poster on a moving truck, not quite sure if it's a Gekisou advertisement.
    • One yellow car had a huge decal of Primula on it.
    • Konata's shopping list at this Comiket is apparently REAL and is the actual Comiket held on December 31, 2006. Apparently, Konata was buying Hentai Haruhi doujins. See here.
    • This is borne out as Kagami buys a Haruhi doujin, "Nurunuru Danchou-san" ("Wet+Wild Brigade Leader") and a Full Metal Panic doujin, "Ikenai Kanchou-san" ("The Naughty Captain" (i.e. Tessa)).
    • The Miyakawa sisters, Hinata and Hikage, appear briefly in the background shortly before Konata's "reloading" scene. They were originally characters in the drama CDs and video games.
    • Kagami gets Squicked by some Sousuke/Gauron Yaoi Doujinshi from a circle.
    • Hiyori makes a split-second Early-Bird Cameo in the scene where two Animate clerks try to sell Konata their doujinshi. No wonder she stood out in the Faceless Masses.
    • A scene where Tsukasa walks outside among cosplayers:
    • Soujirou appears briefly, implying he went to Comiket as well.
    • The scene after Akira's poster is knocked over has Minori Chihara selling Haruhi merchandise.
    • Behind Minori Chihara and the arguing customer in that scene is a Kanon poster.
    • Konata mentions a "Hotel Urashima" that she and her father stayed at when talking about previous Comikets.
      • Hotel Urashima is a real place, and was notorious when Comiket was held at Harumi. Small, expensive, and creepy.
    • Is that a terrible Miku Hatsune?
    • When Meito Anisawa and Clerk Sugita chastise one customer for arriving late, behind Clerk Sugita is a poster of Rena Ryuuguu from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
    • The poster on the wall where Clerk Sugita is punched into by Meito Anisawa is a Shuffle poster, but only Lisianthus is visible due to the dust. (I tried pausing it to see the others, but no cigar)
    • When Clerk Sugita hits the wall after being hit by Anisawa, he mutters "Asia" — this may be a reference to Master Asia from G-Gundam
      • Confirmed a few scenes later, because Asa Shigure is clearly visible on the poster.
    • Finally, we have the Actor Allusion laden duel between Tomokazu "Sousuke" Seki and Tomokazu "Kyon" Sugita. Both try to sell their own characters' merchandise while failing.
    • They also have to explain to the President that Kyon and Sousuke are main characters.
    • A Keroro Gunsou poster is on the wall where President Takahashi punches both Anime Tenchou and Sugita. Yes, the actual president of Animate.
  • The ending song played halfway through is Makenaide by ZARD, as a tribute to one of their lead singers recently dying[1].

Episode 13[]

  • The ending song is a reference to the episode in Suzumiya Haruhi where Taniguchi walks in to see Yuki lying in Kyon's hands.
  • The scene where Konata thinks about the 100 poets, she's shown with a duel disk, wearing a combination of Yugi and Kaiba's outfits (complete with an upside down Millenium Puzzle).
  • In the Animate scene, when Mieto's assistant yells "Boss, we got her!" he is inside Giroro's tent from Keroro Gunsou.
    • Lots of references to Keroro Gunsou in this scene. For one, each assistant seems to parody one of the central characters: the male with the walkie-talkie is Giroro, the brunette is Tamama, and the blonde is Keroro.
    • When blocking Konata's path, the brunette and the blonde laugh like Tamama and Keroro, respectively. Tamama's tail can be seen on the back of the brunette as well.
    • When Konata is at the register, the store employees' facial expressions reference the characters of Keroro Gunsou.
  • At one point, Meito Anisawa tries to use Geass to get Konata to buy something, complete with an Ash Ketchum hat turn.
  • When Kagami scolds Konata, Konata carries wings behind her back and says "Uguuu!".

  • Da Capo is referenced twice in this episode, with Konata parodying Nemu coughing up sakura petals, and the opening itself is parodied, with Konata playing the roles of Nemu, Sakura, Kotori, Moe, and Junichi, complete with the Da Capo opening music.
    • Relevant. (As it's Danbooru, ads are NSFW)
  • "So, is it interesting?" "Unique."
    • As Konata says that, there's a figure of Haruhi in her bunny girl outfit on her bookshelf. Later on, we see a poster of the Haruhi girls in bunny girl outfits.
  • The four attend the Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisou concert.
  • Soujirou does the henshin sequence from Kamen Rider Super-1
  • Yutaka's class introduction directly references that of Chiyo's in Azumanga Daioh, something that she lampshaded.
  • Near the end of the episode, Die Lorelei is playing when Yutaka enters Konata's room. Since it's Konata, she was probably playing Fate/stay night.
  • Minoru tries to sing "Koi no Minoru Densetsu". It's basically "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" from Haruhi, with a few alterations. He fails, because the editing team cuts him off.
  • Konata's speech about an anime where dead pets are resurrected refers to the 2001 series Angel Tales... in which Aya Hirano played Momo the Monkey, one of her earliest roles.
  • Konata has a poster on her wall for the Kiddy Grade Ignition movie, which had been in cinemas in April of the same year (the episode was set in April). Kiddy Grade, of couse, was Aya Hirano's first lead role and she was herself present at the premiere.

Episode 16[]

  • Konata's new handphone, unsurprisingly, has a Haruhi wallpaper. Her ringtone is also Koi no Mikuru Densetsu, which Minoru tried to sing in the credits in the last episode.

    • The seiyuus for both Yuki and Kyon reprise their roles. Sort of.

    • When Kagami asks what the juice has in it, Patricia replies with, "禁則事項です", or "Classified Information".
    • In the English dub, Crispin Freeman and Michelle Ruff voice two characters that are suspiciously similar to (they look, talk, and act the same as) Kyon and Yuki. Then Kyon and Yuki announce the next episode.
  • Kagami is instructed by Konata to buy a Code Geass manga.
  • Otaku mistake Tsukasa for Akari Kamigishi, prompting her to say "Hiroyuki-chan," which is what Akari calls male protagonist Hiroyuki Fujita, and one of the photographers is the director of the first season of Suzumiya Haruhi (the guy with the large glasses and camera).
  • Anime Tenchou tries to sell Konata the Season 1 Image Songs for Haruhi, only for her to walk out because Kagami wants to meet her.
  • While Akira sings Misoji Misaki, Minoru wonders for a moment whether he should sing Kentai Life Returns, one of Kyon's image songs. In the credits, Akira's seiyuu sings Misoji Misaki in real life.

Episode 17[]

  • The split screen when the Izumi-Kobakawas prepare for Konata's birthday is taken from 24.
  • Konata said she wanted to be a Brigade leader, Nanto Shinken master, and an anime storyboard artist. When Kagami asked about her special talents, she said she can name all Pok_mon.
  • Outside of the bookstore Kagami was holding a Rental Magica light novel.
  • In the classroom Konata was reading the July 2007 issue of Comptiq, with LS on the cover and Haruhi on the back.

  • Konata and Soujirou's Gundam related conversation.
  • Miyuki and Yukari watch The Grudge.

  • Hiyori takes a picture of two people cosplaying as Edward Elric and Roy Mustang.
  • Hiyori puts Suzaku as her name when they went to bowl, and odds are it's Kururugi they're referring to here. Also, the adjacent bowler's lane has the names of the SOS Brigade members on the scoreboard.
  • Hiyori parodies the nullification of Ryoko's Data Link.

Episode 20[]

Episode 21[]

  • Konata cosplays as Yuki, quoting her fortune telling from "Live Alive".
  • A Celebrity Paradox is invoked, involving Aya Hirano.
  • When Misao's being asked by a few people to get stuff for them, one of them wants a Playboy. She immediately notices that there's something wrong before snapping.

OVA[]

  • The episode's name is JK, which observant Tropers will know as the abbreviation for Joshikousei.
  • Instant Cosplay Surprise is invoked by Konata; while cosplaying as Yuki Nagato again, she transforms Kagami into a maid, a miko, Rin Tohsaka, and Miku Hatsune.
  • When Konata briefly mentions the "Lodoss Tabletalk Game", she's talking about Dungeons and Dragons, specifically the campaign replays published in Japan that would eventually become the basis for the anime of that name. Naturally, most pen and paper RPGs are classified as Tabletalk RPGs in Japan.
  • The promo food items that look out of place in the fantasy-based MMORPG are a poke at The Tower of Druaga MMO, which did much the same thing.
  • The song that plays briefly during the volleyball game is the theme of Attack Number 1.
  • Konata orders Tsukasa and Misao to form up for the Jet Stream Attack.
  • When Patty discovers Cherry's paw pads don't go puni-puni, she lets out a loud cry of "ZETSUBOU SHITA!".

  • When the gang gets lost in the mountains, Konata yells out "THE HEAVENS HAVE ABANDONED US!!!", a line taken from the film Hakkouda Mountain.
  • That's our Mi-wiki-san!
  • Konata calls Miyuki the Idol of the Galaxy in the pet shop, an Actor Allusion to her role as Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier.
  • When Kagami wakes up in a compromising position, it plays an imitation of the 24 beeps (previously used in episode 17).
  • Minoru tries to sell the girls Sergeant Keroro and Private Tamama.
  • In the same vein Minoru spouts the line "I am Zero! I have returned"
  • In the volleball game, Konata calls out her serve similar to how a certain Bleach character fires his attack

Other[]

  • The name of Konata's MMORPG is never given, but the BGM for it is "Filna Fatansy"
  • A strip in the last bonus section of manga volume 7 points out the Vocaloid resemblances (Kagami - Miku, Tsukasa - Rin, Miyuki - Luka[2]).
  • Also in manga volume 7: when Kagami complained about Konata's huge (and growing) Dating Sim backlog, Konata wished she had the ability of Keima Katsuragi.
    • Keima was again referenced in Volume 8: over an online chat Kuroi mentioned there's been an increasing number of openly Otaku students. When Konata asked for details, Kuroi said "there's this one who was playing on his portable game machine during class. It seemed like a Dating Sim, and the guy was really into it."
  1. See Diabolus Ex Machina for that death.
  2. stated as "Third character not yet revealed"
