All dressed up for his date.

MADOX-01 (also called Metal Skin Panic Madox 01) is a 1988 anime OAV, written and directed by Shinji Aramaki.

At first, the story seems like a remake of Aramaki's earlier work Megazone 23 - a top-secret battlesuit falls off a truck, and is found by a college student. But MADOX-01 quickly takes a turn to the absurd. The student doesn't care about the suit; he just wants to be able to take the silly thing off and go on a date. The military man doesn't want the suit back; he wants to destroy it because it made his tank company look bad during tests. And the person who developed the suit wants to keep it intact because she wants to keep her position in the military/industrial complex.

While the story is silly, the action scenes are choreographed well and the characters are engaging and all-too-human.

Trivia: MADOX-01 was one of AnimEigo's two earliest releases, being released at the same time as Riding Bean.
