Getting superkicked and flung into the pool by The Young Bucks was gratifyingly awesome to watch, and the first instance in AEW where MJF got his just deserts.
If the humiliation he got from Cody and The Young Bucks wasn't enough, then what about Orange Cassidy and Jungle Boy teaming up to eliminate him and Wardlow from the battle royal for the Number #1 contendership for the TNT championship was all the more satisfying.
Evil Is Cool: The guy's a genius in the mic, never breaks character, and thinks fully of himself. So much so that being this heel character got so much praise.
Harsher in Hindsight: MJF has every right to call out CM Punk for seeing him as a Broken Pedestal after seemingly left the wrestling world in 2014, but seeing how Punk rubs people the wrong way made MJF understand what it's like to "never meet your heroes" and it's made apparent when Punk drew the ire of the Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) following All Out, leading to the Elite and Punk being subsequently suspended.
Hilarious in Hindsight: This or Harsher in Hindsight, but MJF's June 1, 2022 promo on Dynamite speaks volumes about Tony Khan. He wasn't kidding about AEW's success getting into Tony's head by bringing in former WWE talents to AEW what makes Tony Khan a polarizing figure in the professional wrestling industry. Also, Tony himself is notorious for rubbing it in on Vince McMahon's face even on social media for the load of ex-WWE guys that were fired since 2020 due to budget cuts, and more recently mocking McMahon onTwitterafter his retirement while under investigation over a hush-money scandal. No wonder why MJF hates Tony so much.
Love to Hate: The guy loves being an asshole, even so that he could give Baron Corbin a run for his money!
He does it again when he sells out the Inner Circle when he and Wardlow form The Pinnacle with FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood), Tully Blanchard and Shawn Spears before laying waste on the Inner Circle.
What an Idiot!: For an insufferable asshole who enjoys being so smug for the hell of it, even MJF's ego got him into trouble in a hilariously satisfying fashion.
Sure, Max. You know Cody can't touch you, but that doesn't mean anyone from The Elite (in this case, The Young Bucks) will.
Instead: MJF got too cocky, without realizing the Bucks were already behind him and got superkicked the moment he turned around before getting thrown into the pool.
While battling for the #1 contender's spot for the TNT Championship, he and Wardlow end up facing Orange Cassidy and Jungle Boy.
You'd Expect: MJF and Wardlow eliminate Cassidy and Jungle Boy before either of two have to face each other to be the last man standing in the ring.
Instead: Again, MJF got too cocky and busy having Wardlow restraining Cassidy and pull out his diamond ring to knock it on Cassidy, only for Cassidy to get out of dodge and MJF accidentally hitting his own bodyguard, allowing both Cassidy and Jungle Boy to team up and eliminate both MJF and Wardlow.
The result: With MJF and Wardlow out of the way, Jungle Boy manages to win the battle royale by eliminating Orange Cassidy.
