Tohma Avenir

Voiced by: Yuuki Kaji (Gears of Destiny)

A boy who, while traveling in search of clues about the people who destroyed his home town, finds a girl named Lily in a research lab. He rescues her, gaining a powerful device and becoming a fugitive from the TSAB in the process.

Tropes related to Tohma:

• Adventurer Archaeologist
• Beam Spam: His appropriately named Silver Stars "Hundred Million" attack is the most extreme example of this yet.
• Bare Your Midriff
• Bifurcated Weapon: His Divider is a revolver with a blade taped on it. Literally.
• Divide by Zero: In the first chapter, his attack is literally named "Divide Zero!"
• Doomed Hometown: Two people destroyed his entire home, apparently killing everyone except him. He's looking for them.
• Healing Factor: Acquired from his bracelet.
• I Know You Are in There Somewhere Fight: Against Nanoha.
• Informed Ability: During his fight with Nanoha, the latter notes that his fighting style is unlike anything she's seen before. The artwork of the chapter this is brought up in depicts him...slashing with his sword, hardly anything a veteran combat trainer would be surprised by in this setting.
• Like Brother and Sister: With Subaru. Chapter four confirms that she's the "Su-chan" he's previously described as being like an older sister to him, and was planning on making him part of her family.
• Marked Change: When he uses the Divider, markings appear and one remains on his arm after his fight with Veyron.
• Meaningful Name: His Divider is numbered 996. Like the Dividers used by Cypha (944) and Veyron (928), each is named after a different model of Porsche. In Tohma's case, 996 refers to the 996-series Porsche 911, the first series of 911s to use water-cooled engines rather than air-cooled engines, just as Tohma is the first male main character in a possible heterosexual relationship within the entire series.
• Poisonous Person: Thanks to the Book of the Silver Cross treating anything alive around him as a threat. In chapter ten, just him walking near Isis is enough to make her cough up a huge torrent of blood. Poor guy doesn't even want to fight anybody.
• Robot Buddy: Steed, whom he uses for functions like photography and navigation.
• Sole Survivor: Of his Doomed Hometown.
• Story-Breaker Power: His "Zero Effect". It scares the crap out of the Huckebein, who are already considerably broken themselves.
• Super-Powered Evil Side: This seems to be the nature of Tohma's "Black Knight" form.
• Villainous Crush: After saving Quinn Garland from Cypha (after the Curb-Stomp Battle), Quinn gets a blush.

Lily Strosek

A girl who was the subject of an experiment related to the Book of the Silver Cross. Tohma rescues her from a research lab.

Tropes related to Lily:

• Artificial Human
• Cute Mute: Communicates entirely via telepathy. This makes her unable to communicate with Steed since he lacks the ability to receive telepathic signals.
• Dumb Struck: The reason for the above.
• Fashionable Asymmetry: Her Engage Suit. Which looks quite a bit like a Palette Swap of Reinforce's outfit.
• Four Is Death: She is referred to as "Strosek the 4th" and let's just say bad things tend to happen to those around her.
• Naked on Arrival: Tohma finds her naked in a research lab.
• Poisonous Person: Before she met Tohma, The Virus inside her killed anyone who touched her almost immediately. Due to the scientists' desire to collect more data, that number was at least 70 people, probably a lot more. And they all died by mutating into blobs of flesh. No wonder she repressed those memories.
• Zettai Ryouiki: On one leg.

Isis Eaglet

A girl who sells clothes to Tohma and Lily, later helping them escape from the police.

Tropes related to Isis:

• Bare Your Midriff
• Crazy Prepared: Have pockets and a bag with various useful stuff as also a wide variety of perfume spells for various situations including one specifically designed to scramble the direction system of any guided projectile which proven to be very effective against Arnage of Huckebein.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
• Fashionable Asymmetry: Her barrier jacket.
• Fingerless Gloves: Puts a pair on just before revealing that she can fly.
• Genki Girl: Oh so very much.
• Hidden Depths: She seems like a carefree Genki Girl traveller. However, there are hints that she's hiding something - she secretly worries about being deported by the TSAB, she can fly, she has a barrier jacket and a pair of devices, and can break steel manacles with her bare hands, not to mention still fight after getting her neck broken with an axe.
• Jumped At the Call: Quite willing to help Tohma after hearing that he's on the run from the TSAB. She later has second thoughts after considering what Huckebein and the TSAB would do to them, but decides that it's worth it to be with friends her age.
• Nipple-and-Dimed: As of chapter 8.
• Petite Pride: Arnage mocks her about her small bust, to which Isis simply replies that she likes her breasts the way they are.
• Super Strength
• Throw Down the Bomblet: She's an explosives user. As in actual chemical explosives, not magical.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Toyota Isis or Morris Isis.

The Huckebein Family

The antagonists of Force. A group of infamous killers that are known for slaughtering whole settlements, leaving no one alive. They are not actually related, but are all infected with the Eclipse virus. Widely believed to be invincible, they are now after Tohma in the hope that he will join their family.

Tropes common to the Huckebein:

• Anti-Magic: They take this Up to Eleven, especially in reacted form, where conventional devices shatter upon contact with their bodies.
• Beware the Superman/Smug Super: All of them know exactly how invincible they are, and won't hesitate to tell you how futile it is to try and fight them.
• Healing Factor: Near instantaneous regeneration.
• Knight of Cerebus: Nanoha was not exactly light-hearted before, but when they showed up it reached a whole new level of Darker and Edgier.
• Lack of Empathy
• Nietzsche Wannabe: Even if their true philosophy is yet to be detailed, their habits and tendency to hate the world become this.
• No Sell: Almost EVERYTHING!
• The Sociopath: Heck, yes!
• Super Mode: When they "react" they acquire new Divider forms and in some cases new armor and physical features. They also become more invincible.
• Too Powerful to Live: Type 1 - They are overpowered as hell and are easily the most dangerous characters around, but they didn't disappear quickly and as a consequence they're dominating the story for now.

Veyron of Huckebein

The first introduced antagonist, who is seeking Lily and Tohma's Divider.

Tropes related to Veyron:

• Bifurcated Weapon: A shotgun-like weapon with a blade on it.
• Badass Biker
• Evil Laugh
• Expy: His design strongly resembles Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII.
  • If you squint a little, he also looks like Janus Cascade.
• Face Palm of Doom: Gets this done to him by Diego, but it doesn't take. Returns the favour more permanently shortly afterwards.
• The Rival: Was introduced as one for Touma, but they seem to have forgotten about that for the time being.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Bugatti Veyron.
• Weak but Skilled: He can't React, but that hasn't stopped him from holding his own against RF 6 or defeating a Reacted enemy Eclipse infectee in direct combat.
  • Not So Harmless: He's only weaker in comparission with his fellow Huckebein comrades. He still have very high endurance(as showed when he withstand a direct shot from a Strike Cannon and continue the fight despite bleeding) and his Claw Grab equipement has easily put him on par with other reacted EC-Drivers, also showed to be even stronger than Subaru. Coupled with his Determinator qualities and cool head makes him quite the dangerous opponent.

Cypha of Huckebein

Tropes related to Cypha:

• The Ace: She likes to describe herself as this. How true that is, however, is yet to be confirmed.
  • Apparently confirmed as of chapter 23. See Curb Stomp Battle and Villainous Rescue below.
• Always Someone Better: Seems to be this to Signum.
• Blood Knight: Her previous stoicism is replaced by bloodthirsty enthusiasm once Signum starts putting up a good fight. And, as the following events show, she will do anything to win.
• But for Me It Was Tuesday: It took her a few minutes to remember exactly which colony Signum was accusing her of slaughtering, in spite of the fact that she personally murdered every single one of the nearly eighty inhabitants.
• Curb Stomp Battle: Against Quinn Garland of the Grendel Family. Cypha overpowers her at first, then Quinn reveals she was only using the basic form of her divider and promptly reacts. Cypha quickly trashes her anyway.
• Curtains Match the Window
• Dark Action Girl
• Dual-Wielding: Dual-wielding BFS's, even.
• Evil Counterpart: Seems to be deliberately designed as this to Signum. Both are busty swordswomen, but Signum is The Stoic Redheaded Hero (pink, technically) with both eyes intact and a single Western-style sword, while Cypha is a Psychotic Smirker evil blonde with an Eyepatch of Power who dual wields Katanas Are Better.
• Evil Gloating: To Signum, about slaughtering a world's entire population.
• Expy: Might be for Wilhelm von Juergen, if for the fact that she beat the crap out of Signum, the Lamia Expy to the point of that Signum might DIE.
• Eyes of Gold
• Eyepatch of Power
• Katanas Are Just Better
• Kick Them While They Are Down: Seems to be fond of this as she did that to Signum and attempted to do the same to Quinn.
• Oh Crap: She... underestimated Signum, to put it lightly.
• Psychotic Smirk: This seems to be her default expression when not interacting with other Hückebein members and being afraid of Signum.
• Smug Snake: Several examples since her introduction but special mention goes to Ch. 24. When Signum finally returns with an AEC-Equipement and challenge Cypha to a re-match, Cypha's reaction was to fight Signum with a divider taken from an enemy she just trashed shortly before (see Curb Stomp Battle above for details) instead of using her own, furtherly mocking Signum's low-level threat to her eye.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Toyota WiLL Cypha.
• Villainous Rescue: In chapter 23 she swoops in the nick of time to save Tohma, Erio and Caro from the Grendel Family.

Arnage of Huckebein

Tropes related to Arnage:

• Bare Your Midriff
• Big Eater
• Curtains Match the Window
• Evil Redhead: Her Force-Next profile's coloured illustration revealed her ginger-ness.
• Expy: Busty Fiery Redhead Genki Girl with a fondness for big guns and a dislike of excess clothing. Sounds like an evil Yoko, doesn't it?
  • Psychotic tattooed gunwoman who favours a tank top and shorts. Revy, is that you?
• Genki Girl
• Goggles Do Nothing
• Jerkass: Strips Isis naked for absolutely no reason, then mocks her lack of a bust.
• Macross Missile Massacre/More Dakka: In reacted form her Dividers become ether two gatling guns or six rocket launchers. Each!
• Red Eyes, Take Warning
• Small Girl, Big Gun: Times two.
• Shoot the Bullet: Does this against Tohma.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Bentley Arnage.
• Wave Motion Gun: Her Divider's Second Reacted Mode.

Stella Irvine

Tropes related to Stella:

• Cheerful Child: Normally.
• Creepy Child: When piloting the Huckebein's base/ship.
• Cute Mute: She typically communicates solely through facial expressions and pantomime that the other Huckebeins translate into complete sentences... somehow. She becomes capable of speech only after merging with the Huckebein's ship.
• Moral Myopia: Refers to the TSAB Forces intruding on their ship as "bugs" and argues that the TSAB shouldn't be coming after them for their killings since they do them on non-administrated worlds.
• Spaceship Girl: She seems to have the power to control the Huckebein Family's spaceship fortress by merging her consciousness with it. She can even enhance the ship's powers and repair damage it's taken.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Subaru Stella.

Deville of Huckebein

Tropes related to Deville:

• An Axe to Grind: A Big Fucking one. Twice his size in reacted form.
• Big Damn Heroes: Inverted villainous example. He saves Arnage from Isis. Assuming Isis could have hurt her that is.
• Dynamic Entry: Pulls this on Isis and Nanoha. The later fails.
• Lightning Bruiser: He is The Big Guy of Hückebein. Who teleports in combat.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Could be for General Motors Statesman de Ville, Cadillac Coupe de Ville or Cadillac Sedan de Ville.
• Walking Shirtless Scene

Fortis of Huckebein

Tropes related to Fortis:

• Affably Evil: Speaks quite politely to Tohma in Chapter Eight, even when conversation turns to... less savory topics.
• Blasphemous Boast: Claims that even God will not be able to save Tohma.
• Bishounen
• Evil Genius: Mentioned to be the brains of the group in his Force Analyzer profile.
  • Informed Ability: The only things he's done so far in the story are exposit information and stand in the bridge doing absolutely nothing in the middle of an attack. It seems like this intelligence doesn't extend to actual fighting, ironically.
• It Gets Easier: His attitude on killing, which is necessary for him to survive.
• Not Me This Time: When he finds records on Tohma of his home town being wiped out, he says matter-of-factly that Huckebein couldn't be responsible. If they had, not even Touma would have been left alive. He says this calmly, with a smile on his face.
• Super Strength: Introductory scene has Fortis catching Veyron's soda can and casually crushing it into a small, tight, ball the size of a thimble.
• Underestimating Badassery: "Everyone, we have a TSAB ship on our tail. I've sent a message advising them to surrender."
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Galant/Lancer Fortis, Market-Based Title for the Mitsubishi Lancer.
• Too Dumb to Live/Villain Ball: Yep, tell the guy you want to recruit that you'd have killed him without batting an eye if you had met him before this. That will definitely make him want to join you.

Curren Huckebein

Tropes related to Curren:

• Badass: As smug as she is, one can't deny that she demonstrated the legitimacy of her badass credentials by curbstomp three of the most powerful current characters without even using her Eclipse powers.
• Bare Your Midriff
• Bastard Girlfriend: Chapter 17. Badass suit and a rapier. Oh so abusive.
• Big Bad: The official leader of the Huckebein Family.
• Big Damn Heroes: Another villainous example. When Hayate is casting the Heimdall spell to bring an iceberg on the Huck-ship, it looks like Cypha can't carve it up in time until Curren shanks the former, causing the iceberg to break.
• Curb Stomp Battle: Defeats Vita and Erio with ease despite both being armed with Strike Cannons, she even managed to destroy both AEC weapons with a sword that wasn't even a Divider.
• Dynamic Entry/In the Back: Does this to Hayate.
• Genre Savvy: Why did she not kill Hayate when she had the chance? Because that would really piss off all her friends.
• Giggling Villain: Typically, characters who speak with musical notes use it in a somewhat endearing manner. Curren does not.
• Katanas Are Just Better: Subverted - her sword breaks after cutting Vita's and Erio's Strike Cannons.
• Smug Snake
• Troll: Because her attitude says so.
• Vehicular Theme Naming: Toyota Curren.
