Magical Girl Lalabel is an early Magical Girl series, airing on TV Asahi in 1980-1981.

Lalabel is a Magical Girl living happily in the magic world, until the day she catches the thief Biscus stealing her magic tools. Startled by her sudden appearance, Biscus swings his magic wand around and accidentally transports the two of them into the human world. Lalabel is taken in by an elderly couple, the Tachibanas, and she attends school with their granddaughter, Teko, learning about human beings and their world in the process, while continuing to chase after Biscus and foil his further attempts to swindle people.

This was the final entry in the Toei Animation/TV Asahi "Majokko" pantheon that had begun in 1966 with Mahou Tsukai Sally, as its relative lack of popularity compared to its predecessors suggested that magical girls were wearing thin; hence, its follow-up was a non-Magical Girl series, Hello Sandybell. This assumption about magical girls would be proven wrong with the success of Minky Momo and Studio Pierrot's magical girl shows later in the '80s, and Toei would re-enter the genre with its remakes of Akko-chan and Sally, which paved the way for something called Sailor Moon.
